Reverse Grid Format
« on: May 09, 2015, 03:44:47 PM »
Just a question regarding the reverse grid format.

Say for example in the up coming season where there are 24 cars, if you manage to qualify in 13th, 14th or 15th you may realistically be able to compete for a positions in the lower parts of the top twelve. However, in the second race you'll be placed at the back of the grid and the chances of achieving a similar result may be pretty low. Could this then affect how the middle of the table's standings be at the end of the season? Could it end up relegating a racer to competing only with the second half of the field over the course of a season?

Sorry if this has already been discussed or if I'm missing the point.

Cheers

Id almost prefer a full revers grid for all that set a qualy lap, this way its not such pot luck being mid pack where times are pretty close. Last season being in the 458 mid pack was kind of where I qualified it most of the time and it was just pure luck I was in the lower part of the first half. A full reverse grid does spice things up more or possibly only revers the top 12 leave the rest as they are if not wanting to go a full grid reverse.

I think if you reverse everyone there will be too much bunching up and crashes galore will ensue.

Reverse grid or not, mid-pack will be mid-pack.

Reverse grid or not, mid-pack will be mid-pack.

Not if you are in the mid-pack.

Then you'd be in the pack that's in the middle. ;)

I'd plus one to that  :D  (assuming coding is all good!  :o)

Or the top half in race time, then we don't know what position will be pole.
(and it will give Wally a challenge ;))

I can already reverse just the top 12 with my program. We can do that. The guy on pole in the 1st race has a good chance of regaining the lead from 12th over a 30 minute race, having some fun along the way, and no one gets sent to the back of the grid.

Reversing the entire grid would cause too many accidents, and be too unfair on the polesitter, putting him at the back of the grid.

I'm a fan of reverse grid for fun - but then I'd prefer full reverse.  The partial reverse in the 2nd half field is the worst kind of punishment, indeed, for some of the mid-field guys.  Maybe the reverse top 10 or similar would be better, if the full grid is deemed too dangerous.

I'm not in this season, but I'll throw in my 2c about reverse grid. being a total novice and useless I'd find it way too unnerving to be in pole with all you guys behind me, if that's how total reverse grid works.
Great fun in practice and for laughs. But if it was a real race with points I'd just pull over before the 1st corner...

I don't know if the fast slow guys feel that way though...

I'll just reverse the top 12. Over a longer race, natural order is restored pretty quickly. It's a bit of fun. They do it in some real series, so why not.

Top 12 sounds good. Like Dick, I wouldn't want to be up front with a full reverse grid either. It also leaves some incentive for the mid pack guys to aim for a higher finish at the end of the season. Still benefits 12th and up but a reasonable compromise at least. Makes you work harder for that last spot during quali.

Why don't we just use ballast instead?
