Holden Hq updates
« on: September 20, 2013, 05:23:57 PM »
My car got an update today, some trumpets. Picked them up last week, pulled them down gave them a good clean.

Had to file down some of the manifold and file in some locators for the exhaust mani studs.  Rigged a throttle cable for now and battery is on charge tonight. They look cool.

Looks good Glen, it will be interesting what difference it will make.

What I'm hoping for is a motor that will breath a lot better and little hp gain would be nice and lets not forget, that great induction sound of triples  ;D The carbs are running 0A7 needles so I may need to go down one size but that isn't my biggest concern. I ended up running a fuel pressure regulator as I don't have a "stock" fuel pump, the pump I have on there must be pushing decent PSI as fuel was flooding out the top of the vent hole on the last SU. It also did this with my 350 holley. Regulator on and rev's have come down and my risks have dropped drastically of a fire  :o

I reseated the jets and re aligned the needles but number 1 carb I cant get down to a nice idle rev range even with the idle screw backed right off, I have dropped of the linkage's so the carbs don't foul each other. I'm thinking fuel might still be making it's way past the jet, more than should be. Going to check the jet + needle seating position in number one carb again. Having fun doing this spending an hour here and there.

So I might go get three sets of needles + jets and try again. 0A6 from what I have read, is a good match for a 202, I shall find out.

Only one flooding, sounds like something is sticking on that bowl, as pressure is equal in all directions in fluids.
As to the strange idle on one, with the linkages off, using  a shortish length of of garden hose 300mm
place one end just in the throat of each cabbie and listen for differences, check s the balance
then with the tacho check the mixture difference when lifting the passion

Im not going to have much choice, my air reader is in storage and I cant be bothered searching through lots of box's for it. Any way that's the way it was done in the day. I have seen Harry firth do it this way.

Going to pull the suspect carb off again today and re check everything, it is that wild at the moment you don't need a hose to tell it is sucking a lot harder than the other two carbs. Fingers can measure that! Might check the butterfly seating position.

I think you both missed the point of my post.
Putting a hose in a caRbie is one thing, but down the throat of a caBbie is a different (and all the more hilarious) story. ;) ;D

HAHAHAHA I missed that completely very good mate!!!

Bruce, maybe it's time to get a phone with a bigger screen  ;D

Found the culprit today, vac advance nozzle was not enabling my butterfly to completely close, a quick file and now she idles nicely.

Well spotted, not an easy thing to find.   :) I expect the previous owner just put up with the problem!

(BIGGER phone, hehehe I have a Samsung Note 2!, I think it lack of proof reading before posting and jostling on a crowded bus, but I will be more vigilant, for a while anyway :))
