Thursday Nights fun racing / Apologies
« on: November 03, 2016, 10:46:59 PM »
I do apologise if it sounded like I was complaining on teamspeak or that the racing wasn't a good enough experience for me.. far from it. I don't expect to be able to compete with a joystick with the level of physics quality in assetto.  It was difficult back in the day of rfactor, GTL and GTR2 but the physics weren't as realistic as they are in assetto.  This makes my job of controlling any car without adequate downforce very difficult.  Even in a race car ie. gt3 I will still be off pace due to the way joystick makes the car handle.. my front wheels are actually turning into the corner before I get to the point where you guys begin to turn in, this is what's causing my tyre wear more than anything and I don't know of any way to change it. Most of my setups also run higher front psi and toe and camber to aid easier turn in which also contributes to more tyre wear.  Better setups do help but they never last past about 8-10 laps of competitive racing.

I always worry that I'm going to cause an accident with the escorts, thankfully haven't had any majors with that one, but some close calls.  I will always be more competitive on a short circuit over a long one.  I really wish I could use a wheel setup, and I did try, it unfortunately is not possible due to a body mostly fused in bone.

I don't expect the server settings to change dramatically and affect everyone elses racing experience to try and accommodate my shortcomings, even if it is just the fun run nights. Auto clutch really should be my only requirement.

The escorts have no downforce and the rear is very loose. This is a very difficult thing to keep under control at race speed with a joystick over a wheel as I have to sacrifice speed far more to try and regain control from a sliding rear end.  Has not stopped me from trying. Although often it feels like I'm just out doing laps alone during a race for the most part. I still in no way find it boring, maybe a lil lonely at times lol.

yeah I haven't had an issue with that chicane since.. struggling with stability on this track though as soon as I try and push the car a bit.. very hard to control with the joystick when it gets too loose.

Thanks guys,  I noticed that shadowplay decided to record the overlay "recording has started" hence my frustration as it was something that plagued the last half of the video.  I really couldn't go back and record everything as it was again..  I managed get around most of them in each recording and still produce a good video. Shame that one of the recordings with the overlay ended up in the video.

My videos will improve as I keep making them.  If I end up joining the next league season there will be a lot more added to them, like driver names and qualifying times and finishing positions with fastest lap of the race.. providing I have access to that info.

Nearing 4am and I've been at it (cursing and frustrated) since 11pm. but finally managed to get it finished.

There was a lot of brake lock-ups and bumping going on and accidents a plenty.

Tried this one in 1080p @ 60fps. So be sure to watch it @ 100%

Oh and Gratulin you get the honours of being the first car in view from the start :).

Enjoy

I wonder how it would go against the maserati gt4..   but I do find the cayman gt4 quite different..

I'd like to see a season with the cobra vs the bmw me e92 and the lotus evora s ( i think it was step1)

Can you add the Porsche Cayman GT4 in? I think they'd make an awesome car for a season

Can someone test the yellow 44 gallon drum on the exit to the 2nd chicane.  I could have sworn I was to the right of it but still seemed to hit it head on.  I was trying to get max speed through there and testing the line to see how close I could get to the drum on exit.  So wondering if its an invisible wall or not.. will try again later.

I had my usual slow start off the line, once I settled in I was stuck behind Seanus, I just couldn't pass him.  I found that with most of the race, passing wasn't going to be easy. Most of my passes were made by others coming off or locking up. I held up Bacchulum for a bit, but let him through as my rear end started to get a bit loose, I didn't want to knock him off.  I can't push this car too much using a joystick and I was trying to reserve my tyres which were in need of a change 3 laps from the finish line.

I'll go through the replay of race 1 either tonight or Saturday in preparation for the highlights video.

Great video! Loved the camera angles used and the highlights were all there including some awesome spins and recoveries... it was all me at the start there haha

A tip on framerates etc.. what I've seen some people that record do, is to play the replay at half speed, record with fraps or shadowplay @ 30fps and then import @ 60fps into video editor to bring the speed back to normal. Also results in smoother video and you can turn the gfx effects up since it's playing at half speed.

Thanks.  yeah there were lots of several lap battles for position I just couldn't fit in the video.  I don't have an issue with framerates with this rig.. I'm running 4.8ghz, 16gb 3200 DDR4, GTX1080 @ 2560x1440, but recording in 1080p @50 is quite smooth.. Fraps just go down to about 40fps but I get crashes with it and have to restart the game and replay after fraps to get it to work again.. So trying shadowplay.. which does give a better and much higher framerate..    To give you an idea, on oultan park my lowest fps is 72 coming out of pits. but around the circuit 90-135fps. DOF is off but everything else is maxed to ultra.

I spent about 3hrs last night watching the replay and for a race that people claim they had bad luck in, there was plenty of close racing battles. I picked the best of what I found and I hope its enjoyable to watch.

This was my first time recording using Nvidia Shadowplay and didn't notice until all my recordings were one that the mouse cursor shows in most of them.. I'll remember that for next time.  Fraps allows you to turn off recording of mouse cursor.  On the plus side the framerates for recording are higher than what fraps can record at.

I think the reserve track is a better choice, with respect to the modders.

This track's fps was rather low compared to all the others. My fps in assetto is anywhere from 80-130fps.

Thanks Des, could you edit all of my race OUT?
Not a good night for me, next week!

Considering I finished in 4th.. I get the feeling you're not the only one who had a bad race..

I have had fun with other various car match ups.  Some require ballast added to one car to make the racing closer, but on average most are stock.. 1 cars strength is the other cars weakness and vice versa.

This is the RUF yellowbird vs the mercedes SLS. I ballast did have to be added to the RUF as it had a bit more power and top speed.

Another mix is the Lotus Exige S and the BMW 1M @ spa.. very close. (looks to be the standard 1M)

To add to the mix of the M3 vs cobra you can add the Lotus Evora S S2 to have 3 makes..I tested both road cars against the cobra and the evora seemed even closer to the cobra for speed.

There was another car we mixed with the Mazda MX-5 cup.. I think it was one of the abarths..

If anyone has any time in the replay of a battle or crash and would like it added to the video please feel free to post the exact start time in your replay files.

I will start recording from my replay file by Saturday night and the video should be released either Sunday or Monday.

As much as I quite like this track layout I see no margin for error due to it being far too narrow imo for anything bigger than a go kart.  I can see 1 accident nearly wiping out an entire field causing a pile-up.  Let's hope that doesn't happen.

I'm sure the faster guys here at xgn will be hitting the low 1:50's, maybe lower..
