The Cobra was another stressful handful this week. Spa was better. Eastern Creek felt like a return to Hungaroring. Seems that the Kunos high resolution track mesh is needed to allow the Cobra to be controlled. Well done to Phil.8 for the round win! I think he knows how to drive the Cobra! He reckons the Cobra is like the Skip Barber (or is that Biber?) racer in iRacing so he feels right at home slipping and sliding around the track. Second went to Mister gawaterman with third to Grubbet. Well done guys on a difficult combo. Due to stress overload in Race 1 we changed to a Toyota for race 2 to go do some shopping. It was good fun though! I finally abandoned the h-shifter and managed to stay on track for the 5 whole race. Well done me!!

Championship: Points Tally
1. Phil.8 95
2. gawaterman 89
3. Grubbet 83

Thursday Nights fun racing / Cobra Setups and "Training"
« on: August 14, 2015, 02:56:38 PM »
It seems to be emerging that we have the field laptimes really spread out this season in the Cobras. Perhaps the new physics make them more difficult to drive? Perhaps Phil.8 in changing his name from Krahl has also paid Guybrush for his "hacks"? The gap between Phil and Guybrush to even the other fast guys is pretty damn large! Last night the laptimes were:

1:44s for Phil and Guybrush
1:48s for Wally, GWyer
1:49.645 PB for Grubbet
No one else under 1:50

Having followed both of these guys "in car" while they lap there doesn't seem to be any magic "trick" - just good smooth driving and a better more consistent line and braking points.

Some suggestions/recommendations:

1. The main issue was that everyone in the 1:50s+ were really struggling with braking. There seems to be a bug in AC where you need to recalibrate your brake pedal in the its when you first connect to the server. Otherwise you end up with an extremely sensitive brake pedal that does not allow for progressive brake "pressure".

2. Phil.8 shared his setup last night on the forum pre-race chat topic. It was extremely helpful  but not everyone was able to take advantage due to TS issues. It would be good if everyone shared their setups ie Phil.8 and Guybrush :) if possible. Now that we have done 2 races these 2 setups are probably getting pretty good for most circuits.

3. It may be useful to take 5-10 minutes during practice to run a "training" session conducted of course by either Phil or Guybrush or both. The idea I have is for them to simply talk their way around a lap of the circuit while everyone else is "in car" with them.

The above suggestion will not close the gap completely but, I hope, will make the racing more enjoyable for everyone.

Thanks

Quote from the track website:

The circuit first hosted a round of the Australian Touring Car Championship (now known as V8 Supercars) in 1992 and held a round every year, excluding 1998 and 2006, until 2008. The circuit hosted the V8 Supercars Grand Finale in 2003 and 2004, with Marcos Ambrose winning on both occasions.[12] In 2009 the circuit was dropped in favour of a new event at Sydney Olympic Park.[13] The circuit returned to the V8 Supercars calendar in 2012 after V8 Supercars failed to secure a second international event.[14]

The official pre-season V8 Supercar test day was held at the circuit in 2011[14] and 2013. The 2013 test day was the first time that the four Car of the Future manufacturers appeared together at a public event.[15]

In the 1990s, the circuit hosted the Winfield Triple Challenge, an event which featured ATCC teams and drivers alongside Superbikes and drag racing.

Thursday Nights fun racing / S7R2: Mazda Cup Vallelunga Post-Race Chat
« on: August 06, 2015, 10:21:53 PM »
Well, a few hiccups with setting up the server but at least we know that a WHITE CAR won!! I stopped the server too soon after race 1 and lost the results, Race 2 results were ok though. I doubt that Phil will remember winning Race 1 anyway??

Race 2 was an experiment with the new ballast. It obviously didn't work because the top 3 were the guys with the ballast! What went wrong there? Congrats to Guybrush (I think someone said his second name was Threepwood?) followed by Phil and then Marty in third.

See you at Spa next Thursday in the Cobra. By the way, the Cobra is fantastic to drive with the new improved AC1.2 FFB.

Gentrack1 proved itself to be a fantastic track once again. The little Mazda did struggle up those hills however :)

Congrats to Guybrush (Race 1) and ThyMelman (Race 2) for the wins. ThyMelman is leading the championship on 47 points with Guybrush on 45 and Rob on 44.

Now to try and sort out my brakes!!!!

After last week's challenging Cobra Cup Round 1 it seems like a good idea to kick off the Mazda Cup. Also, the Belgium GP at Spa isn't for a couple of weeks so this aligns the schedules better.

July 30 Mazda MX-5 Gentrack1 Laps=1*5 & 1*7

Most struggled on Hungaroring in the Cobra. 2nd race at Blackwood was much better.

Server = "AUS XGN Cobra Cup Season 6 RACE"

Configured using AC Server Manager by Joe Stevens

No dynamic track. I think the Cobra is difficult enough as it is.

PS. I have chosen my words VERY carefully so as to leave no room for misinterpretation. I don't want to win quote of the year every week ;)

Thursday Nights fun racing / Cobra Setups

Getting major brake lockup in the Cobra at this circuit!! Don't remember getting this before or is it just that it's been a while since we drove the Cobra?

Here are the setups I have from Spa inter-league races. The famous y5.ini and, of course, the GB setup.

Assetto Corsa / Teamspeak Headset
« on: July 15, 2015, 03:35:48 PM »
My old headset broke so I lashed out and bought a new one. It worked pretty good this week. The beauty of this type of headset is that I can set the game sound level and the headset sound level independently so that I hear the chat through the headset at the correct level while still having immersive sound coming from the PC's speakers. They simply plug into the standard microphone/headset sockets on the PC. I have my front sound outputs set to not disable PC external sound when the headset is plugged in.

Here's the link -

It's a fairly high end headset at approx $14 delivered!
