Mod Tracks / REAL TRACK - Automotodrom Brno - Rating
« on: October 29, 2014, 05:05:51 PM »
Developed from scratch by Sneer: "I've started this track back in 2006 for rf1 from scratch (it has never been release in public). I have reopened the project in 2013 for a game called "dolphin's racer". Now I've ported the latest version to AC. The visuals are noticeable lowpoly in some areas, but I have reworked the road-collisionmodel and some materials for AC."

Only has 18 startpos & pits.

I've included this for completeness and this is actually a good track. However, not ready for league races and there are issues regarding whether or not it will ever get updated due to another version rumoured to be under development.

Mod Tracks / REAL TRACK - Salzburgring - Rating
« on: October 29, 2014, 04:27:38 PM »
Original authors: Com8 and Steppenwolf, converted for AC by Alexander Kholodkevich.

The Salzburgring is a 4.225 kilometres (2.63 mi) motorsport race track in Austria, east of Salzburg.

History
The race track was first opened in 1968. Lying in a narrow, alpine valley, it has a rather simple layout, with two long straights plus the sweeping and fast "Fahrerlagerkurve" ("paddock turn") at the bottom, and the narrow "Nockstein-Kehre" on the top. In spite of its simple layout, it garnered a fearsome reputation for the high speeds reached on the straights and the "Fahrerlagerkurve". Michael Doohan describes the section between 7 and 10 as his all time favorite piece of racetrack, likening it to "threading a motorcycle through the eye of a needle at 180mph whilst banging fairings with your competitors with armco barriers on each side". He continues "Sure it was fast and dangerous, but also enormous fun. To me it's what motorcycle racing is all about".

I think everyone who has tried this circuit likes it. Well worth a league slot! We ran some Cobra races here already and seemed to handle that OK. I still have nightmares of trying to drive one of the open wheelers in the wet in Netkar :(

Built from scratch by Harry Muhammad who also built Sentul.

The Lippo Village Street Circuit (Lippo Village International Formula Circuit) is a temporary street circuit in Lippo Village, Tangerang, Indonesia. Designed by Hermann Tilke, the track was planned to be made by modifying parts of the village near the Pelita Harapan University and includes the Supermal. It is located at the centre of Lippo Village's hub. The track failed to meet completion deadlines for A1GP in 2008/09 and the track was not homologated by the FIA. the track was used for some local racing events, but has since fell out of use. The pits and the track sign remained to this day.

This track is well worth a trial since we don't have any street circuits in AC and this is a good track - really tricky to drive!

Mod Tracks / REAL TRACK - Sentul International Circuit - Rating

Built from scratch by Harry Muhammad who also built Lippo Village Street Circuit.

Sentul International Circuit is a permanent motor racing circuit located in Babakan Madang, Bogor, Indonesia. The current circuit, shortened by 40 percent compared to the original design, is predominantly used for motorcycle racing and the Asian F3 series. Sentul is a relatively simple, smooth, broad track with large runoff areas, enabling non-bumpy and smooth driving at racing speeds.

This track grows on you. Due to it's fast wide layout I reckon it would produce some really good racing.

We've had some fun runs on this track and it is very good. Well worth a league race slot! Would be good next time we do open wheelers...

Mod Tracks / REAL TRACK - Brands Hatch and Brands Hatch Indy - Rating
« on: October 29, 2014, 03:23:39 PM »
Conversion by Albert McSaltens who also has converted Circuit de Catalunya and Suzuka both of which are also good conversions of real tracks.
Version 1.0 - This is very good quality that, while it may not be exact to the real Brands Hatch, is a good track to race on.

Rate it "2' if you believe there are no flaws and the layout is close enough to the real Brands to use in league races.

There are 2 Donington Park tracks in AC. The attached one here is a scratch-built version.

Note:
"One thing to be aware of is that while there are 24 places on the grid, there are only 19 in the pitlane (that's as many as Donington will accommodate unless I place them perpendicular to the track."

Hardware & Reviews / THE Oculus Rift Thread

Hi, Thought it was a good time to start a dedicated topic for the OR.

I've just noticed that you get the laptime displayed at the top of the screen in GREEN. It's sort in the roof of a closed car interior just above the windscreen. Similar to where the virtual rearview mirror is when you have that on.

Anyone else noticed this?

Mod Tracks / [UPDATED] Keeper Tracks for Assetto Corsa
« on: October 15, 2014, 01:25:02 PM »
There has been a real change in the quality of mod tracks being produced for Assetto Corsa. Therefore I'm updating this topic.

Only tracks that are worth repeated use are now listed.

These tracks have continued to be updated by their authors until it has reached a level of quality where most, if not all, bugs have been fixed and the aesthetics of the track and surrounds developed to a high level.

The tracks that are conversions have been enhanced to meet the higher quality of Assetto Corsa.

Mod Cars / SimHQ Sports Car Endurance Series for Assetto Corsa
« on: October 10, 2014, 11:43:07 AM »
Just came across this site. They seem to be creating "slightly modified" versions of the standard AC cars to run GTP and GTE series races. Does anyone know how this would work and if it is useful for XGN? I've downloaded the cars and tried them on their server and it seems to work fine but I'm not sure how they are doing the mod and controlling the "levelling" of the cars.

Assetto Corsa / Surround sound in Assetto Corsa
« on: August 10, 2014, 10:55:00 PM »
Hi, I had a look and I couldn't find a topic on AC audio so hope it is ok to start a new topic.

A week or so ago I stumbled across a cheap way to setup surround sound for my driving rig. I had dismissed the need for surround sound and had read somewhere that the support wasn't that great (or missing) in AC. Anyway, I had my PC speakers plugged into my sound card using the normal "green" 3.5mm speaker port and was happy enough with the sound I was getting.

However, during a cleanup I found an old mini stereo system that had an audio input. So I wondered if it could be connected to my PC to provide some rear speakers. My PC motherboard had additional surround audio ports - the usual 5.1 outputs - that would require a new 5.1 speaker system. I also discovered a 3.5mm audio output port labelled "surround speakers". When I plugged my mini stereo into this port Windows showed the option for selecting "quadrophonic" audio output. Testing showed that the four speakers did indeed work as a quadrophonic audio setup.

When I launched Assetto Corsa with this setup I immediately got surround sound. The improvement in immersion was dramatic. I could hear cars coming up behind me, could tell if they were to the left or right of me and could hear their engine notes indicating whether they were accelerating or lifting. In addition, and this was where it has the most benefit for me, I can now hear each individual tire! I can hear the specific tire squeal as it breaks traction and can clearly understand the effect of steering input, throttle and brakes on the tires and hence the handling of the car.

So, if you have an old set of powered speakers or mini stereo lying around they might be suitable as a set of rear speakers for your driving rig.

Mod Cars / Car Mod: Corvette C6.R 2013

http://www.assettocorsa.net/forum/index.php?threads/Corvette-c6r-2013-by-unitedracingdesign-beta-out.11754/#post-184481

This is a GTE class car according to the thread and comparable to the BMW M3 GT2. There is some discussion regarding relative performance of the cars but should be interesting to try them out together. I did some races on a server tonight at Imola and did 1:44s. Quick guys were getting down to 1:42s. Nice to drive.
