Did my first practice runs in the season cars to see how they compare for me, here are my times in all the cars at Nurburg done on the practice server today.

(http://www.mediafire.com/convkey/8bfb/r5f0r5b2rpdepm67g.jpg) (http://www.mediafire.com/view/?r5f0r5b2rpdepm6)

I think the M3 Group A will be an unlikely choice for anyone as its clearly the slowest and thats on the soft tyres which it cant race on so will be a fair bit slower again in the race. The E30 DTM would be a better match up to the Merc which is clearly fastest of this by a fair bit.

I did do a race on the server in the merc however and its at a disadvantage to the 458 as it has the straight line speed advantage over it so a good driver in this makes for a fun race. F40 really is quite similar to the 458 and both of those Im sure I could go much quicker same as the KTM which I didn't do as many laps in.

Will be an interesting car choice as any longer faster tracks the F40 or 458 are the go, but for something twisty the Merc is probably best.

Several second faster than me even in the slower cars. Need more practise :)

We rely on someone taking Marty out :))

On RSR, the DTM is generally quicker than the Merc again. We'd be falling for "faster and faster car" creep.

Yeah I reckon the merc is already outclassing the other cars a bit, But we're going for fun.  If your fun is to lap alone, then take the merc.
If your fun is challenge, then take the bimer.

;)

Amen to that, brother.

I will need to try the BMW DTM there as it seemed slower then the Alfa and Merc when I ran a server with the 3 of them at Silverstone national. I think it has been slowed down a bit since v1.1 and checking RSR the few quicker times in the m3 dtm are all before the 11th which was when v 1.1 came out.

The e30 grp A is actualy the most fun car of those to drive but will really struggle against the others on med or hard tyres needed for the races. Even the Merc wont have as big an advantage on race setup on med or hards depending on race length. With the 458, f40 and ktm all running semi slicks all the time and just the race cars having a set of softs that may gain an extra second in qualy.

Still even though I ran the Merc and was a couple seconds faster then 2 guys in the 458 I didnt win the race and drove the wheels off the thing, the 458 gets a big jump off the line and so may still be the better race car of this pack. Its very hard to pass if someone drives a good line in it and doesnt make a mistake.

Its an interesting mix of cars as outright lap pace isnt always the thing that will win races, top speed on some straights may be better and really mix the racing up a little with this mix.

Good time in the mercedes Marty ...I was happy to hold the record for a few days at 11.4..,,my five minutes  of fame over lol...if I can ever sort out my damn wheel ff issues I might continue with this game, one minute feels good next minute 4 seconds off the pace :(

What FFB issues are you having?

What FFB issues are you having?

Was having problems with my g27 really bad lap times  whether it was lag or what dunno...then would start to not centre after a few laps, also no matter wat settings had no feel...they decided it must be knackered as no amount of re install etc etc made it better...plugged in old g25 knocked 7 secs a lap off my times at nurb gp, felt great as I remember sims should feel...now no feel and need to turn the wheel a lot more to get same steering lock....feels gross...frustrating to say the least.

Post by: Matthew111 on March 19, 2015, 07:10:05 PM
Yeah as i pointed out earlier the BMW has had its performance cut down a lot in a recent update, all those wr times for the DTM would be from the old version of the car. I did a 1:54:8 at imola pre update now it can only do a 56.2
Title: Re: S6R1: Nurburgring Race Chat
Post by: Gratulin on March 19, 2015, 07:10:15 PM
I assume you have done all the basic things to fix the problem?

1. Re-install Logitech profiler and let it detect G27 from scratch.
2. Move G27 to different USB port.
3. Check that rotation is 900degrees in profiler
4. Initially select one of the G27 predefined profiles in AC.
5. Go through calibration wizard.

All the practice I'm doing has started to pay off, I've managed a few 2:15s in the 458 which I'm pretty happy with. I tried the merc yesterday which is fun to drive but my times were quite a bit slower.

I think I finally sorted by GPU freeze issue too. I was using an app called fanaleds to have the LEDs on my G27 working in AC. Once I closed that my freeze ups disappeared. Weird thing is I tried closing it once before, and didn't help so perhaps it's on conjunction with something else I changed. Last night I played a few hours with no freeze up and hoping that continues...

Joe Ive been using fanaleds woth no issues, its more likely to be a 3rd party python app as these tend to break things at times. I know when I tried OV1 things turned to crap and so I havent used that since. Also Ptracker at times with large fields tends to effect my fps but fine with up to abput 15 on it just get worse with 24 or more and live sector data.

Still the shift lights on a g27 are more gimmick then a feature and pretty useless, if they werent on I wpuldnt even notice I think. I use dashmeter pro for my dash data and shift lights. Way more usefull then those tiny little lights on the g27.

Thanks for the info Marty. I'm using both OV1 and PTracker so if I experience issues again I'll try turning those off.

Wally could you password the practice server please tried running laps there and a few too many random idiots, which cant be kicked.

Still havent made up my mind yet on the car but comfirmed the Alfa is clearly the fastest here , definitely not going the bmw grp A as even the DTM I am 3 seconds slower then the Alfa and 5 seconds slower in the grp A. I tried the Ruf and its way too slow here anyway so wouldnt want it anymore anyway. Pretty close between KTM, f40, and 458 which are similar to the times I can do in the e30 DTM.  ;)

Well, if the choice is letting them pass you or taking them out, then you certainly making the right decision. :)
If someone is clearly faster, let them have it.  Nobody wins when it comes to too much tussles.  Altho a little friendly door-banging is always fun :D

don't worry joe u should find ur pace and have a relative speed to the guys around you....if its ur first race u are gonna be stressed but try your best to enjoy it..if u hit your usual markers etc just keep your line and pace its the other guys job to get past cleanly, unless blue flags then try to roll out of the way best u can...if u do make a mistake in the race and take someone else out...u wont be the first or last of us to do it ;)  just enjoy my friend and with time the pace will come :)
Title: Re: S6R1: Nurburgring Race Chat
Post by: Bird on March 24, 2015, 05:04:04 PM
Actually, even with a blue flag, don't do the unexpected and scramble out of the way instantly.  Often the best thing is just to keep going. If your normal speed is slower anyway, they'll easily get on the inside to the next corner.  Don't close the door on them, that's all.

I think the exception is if someone behind is clearly faster in laptime, but their car has no top speed; in that case it's nice to give up the inside line to them, and stick to one side of the track until they're past.

In any case, try to avoid sudden direction changes or slowdowns, they can lead to accidents (eg if someone is right behind you trying to get a draft; lifting for them is a sure way to end up in a tangle)

Krahl you need to get your kids some racing jackets like these. Well they cant race in them but you should be able to.

To find out if they are real we will need to see a group shot of his kids in their racing jackets. I think the dog collar is taking it just that little bit too far though even if it would be an effective method.

We would restrict it to 36 volt like the Americans in guntanimo bay....apparently that's fine ;)
