Title: Season 34 poll - ATCC
Post by: Wally on July 13, 2020, 12:34:53 PM
I've given these mods a go and they're good fun. Choose Group A or C, and also choose a format from the last three options. You can vote for multiple options.

I reckon the group C cars, being more powerful, are harder to drive than Group A.

Personally, I like the idea of driving each car once. It means no one gets an advantage by choosing any particular car which might be faster than the rest, and introduces a strategic element of when to drive each car. The cars are supposed to be pretty close in performance.

After the current season finishes, we'll do an ACC fun run or two (GT4s are out July 16), then try these cars out.

Good find Wally, I had dismissed these mods as they were still in Beta :-\ but after a brief try today they are very good.
Hope you have recovered from your mishap :o.

You wouldn't know it's beta. They're good fun. For those not in the know, or those who don't stalk me like Roo does :) I was on my bike yesterday and a large stick unbelievably got wedged in my front spokes which saw me go over the handlebars and faceplant into the bitumen. I'm OK, just a bit scraped and bruised. Lucky, it could have been worse.

Hope you recover quickly, missed you at yesterdays ACC random car race.

Back on topic :)

I voted for group A and choose one car and stick to it, mainly because the only car i liked driving was the Jag.

My original thought was to drive each car once , however if the default setup is indicative of how some of these cars handle (mainly understeer while braking) ,then I can't suffer them,  In my mind (righlty or wrongly) this is not realistic , during my younger days I use to hoon around the twisty roads through the back of the Otways in kingswoods and falcons and they handled way better under braking than some of these mod cars do.  I do miss the smell of overheated brakes and rubber in the cool forest air. :)

Maybe the default setup is horrid and tweaks can fix the braking issues if so i'd be more inclined to drive each car once.

Any car will be good to me really.
But personally do not want to sit on the same seat where Phil sat the week before....no no  hence the vote to remain with yours and only yours car   :-*

I haven't driven any of the mod cars yet and probably won't until we decide which mod we will be using, but I did vote for one car for the season. I suck at most cars and changing every week will mean I suck more than usual.

How about at half Season we all have one chance to change cars for the second half of the Season.

That's what I usually end up doing. Note that "Drive whatever car you like every week" option would also mean you can stay in the same car every week if you like.

I've always advocated for sticking to one car, and having to deal with it at non-suitable tracks.
Plus, I don't want to get a car a Victorian has been in! :P :-*
I'm with Rob & Simone. 8)
(but just in the general vicinity, not too close)

I'll see what I can do, Jarmel. ;)

Just incase others have the same trouble as i did with way too much understeer while braking , After about 2 hours trying all the cars tonight it finally twigged that while braking its almost like less is more ,eg: 50 -70ish Percent brake pressure  seems to stop the cars quicker and allow for better trail braking and the understeer isn't anywhere near as bad compared to if you jump on the brakes hard.

I don't have a favourite car now , so would liek to change vote to any car any race.

I'm not really having the understeer issue.  Brake straight and they do turn more as you add power.
Found the volvo to be pretty quick (second quickest atm, and could go quicker).  The VL I like for the memories (owned one back in the day) but I wasn't quite as quick.  The Supra was also pretty fast.
I think if we stick in the same cars and mix up the tracks should be some good racing.

I was just trying to brake too hard ACC style , maybe using bathurst to test the cars didn't help either. Think it was a case of jumping from ACC to Ac and not adjusting well at all .
Around Mugello they felt ok once  i got used to how hard to push the brakes.

Some interesting cars there, I’m not sure what my favorite is but the sound that BMW makes is simply gorgeous! I liked the Jag but I can’t seem to get in a seating position right as I found all the scaffolding and A-pillars make it hard to see out of. The Volvo seemed super quick and felt rather nimble bit I’m lacking the beard and glasses to race that one...I then tried the Batmobile and thought it was horrible. For mine, the sound is all wrong (& far too overbearing), it also seemed far too nimble for something the size of a block of flats.....still more cars to try but I’m kind of sad we’re not running the big bangers

It's possible. I will check soon.

Yep, 1.4 is out.

*NEW CAR – Ford Mustang GrpA – Mustang has been setup very close to the real car with the current owner providing specs, images and testing physics. The game car has very close performance and characteristics to the real car.

*NEW CAR – Rover SD1 GrpA

I'm glad there is an update, i really hope they've fixed those two Skylines.......I can't ever recall (seeing them race in the day) them sounding like a Dyson vaccum and they never had pop-off valves which popped like a modern day drift car.....I must admit I was amazed how fast the DR30 was with no front and rear windscreen  ::)

The more I drive these cars the more I start to think they are more someone's modern interpretation of what they'd be like with modern upgrades than a proper 'historic' mod....which got me thinking. Wally, but have you considered running both Group C&A together like we see in modern historic racing as I found around there isn't a lot of time difference between both around Mugello

I hadn't considered that the lap times might be comparable in both groups. As there's already a lot of cars in the list, I might do a separate Group C fun run and then we can compare times. I'm not too hung up on historical accuracy with this mod - I just reckon it will give fun racing.

Done a few laps in some, they're fairly close aside from the ovlov, at least the one's I've tested. The differences could play out other ways depending on track too. I think it'll look cool with a bunch of these on track, also whether accurate or not I think they sound pretty good, I like the extra sound effects on those turbo cars and can't decide to use v8 or turbo. I'm getting some sort of strange visual reverb/vibration effect in the R31, no others have it, it's almost like some sort of thing they'd do in a fast n furious movie lol

Finally had a chace to try a few cars yesterday and they all felt like they had rear brake dragging all the time. Made it very hard to get out of the pitsd let alone trying to get it round corners. Anyone else have an issue like this?

I swapped to another mod and no issue at all. (except the realisation I was only getting 94% throttle half the time from my pedals)

No, I didn't find that. The brakes are quite sensitive, so I reduced the brake pressure in all cars I tried.

Seemed pretty wierd to me. I changed my wheel back to the G27 while I clean and service the fanatec stuff and it was all good today. I am however having framerate issues. Lapping on my own I'm getting 90fps but with a full grid of AI cars, I'm getting drops to 15fps at points around the track. Not really playable at that rate.

My hardware isn't the latest and greatest but an 8-core AMD and RX580 OC shold play better than that, even in VR. Without VR, still getting some issues but will most likely have to turn off the VR for this series. It feels really odd without the VR now.

I can't complain as I often do similar, but incase anyone is unaware nigh on ALL these cars are the Kunos BMW E30 DTM.
The minimum amount a changes have been made to make sure nothing graphically sticks out and what appears to be random 50mm offsets in the front suspension parts.
Also at a quarter million polys each car with no LODs those with potatoes may struggle with a full field.

If these don't  work out, how about the TCR 2018. Good to drive, forgiving but you can still get on them and hussle them around
