Title: Got me some new hardware
Post by: Joe on February 10, 2016, 09:47:27 AM
Finally entered the realms of real PC gaming, no more of this gaming laptop nonsense. Hadn't build a gaming machine in about 15 years; graphics cards got really fucking big!

Looks funky!
It's always fun to build a new computer (if you have the time).

What's the display at the top, if I may ask?

It's a fan controller, will speed up or slow down the fans based on the temperature, or you can manually override it. Seems to work okay, when I was running some GPU benchmarks last night I noticed it speeding the fans up as the temp went up then slowing them down again after.

Now I just need some time for the joy of Assetto Corsa! I booted it up yesterday and fully maxed out the graphics settings to give it a go. Was getting fps dips into the mid 50's at spa which surprised me as I get a pretty constant 70fps on witcher 3 which is known for being GPU intensive.

I see the "the little hand of a helper" too, should be easy to do one day before his nap!
Looks like a winner kit.

Don't forget your CPU thermal paste is all I'll say.  Oh, and also makes sure you don't have all the fans blowing into the case - you need some blowing and some sucking, just like.....

Looking good! It's probably still worth tweaking reflections, which give a FPS hit.

The missing word is Marty, right?

Front and side fans are sucking, rear fan blowing. The heatsink had thermal paste pre-applied so just using that for now and temps seems pretty good. I made a layout for my keyboard LCD to give me temp data on CPU and GPU as well as FPS and a few other things.

Cheers Wally, I'll tweak a few things once I get a chance to set my wheel up. The other night I gave it a try with the xbox controller and stopped playing pretty quickly as it sucks.

The tiny hand was my three year old, she was pretty interested in it all. I started the build when she was still up but didn't get very far as she kept trying to touch everything!

I just thought that Joe had unusually small hands.  Good for laptop gaming.

It is fun, I know have 4 sets of those little hands to help! (To be truthfull, I enjoying showing them as much as I can, as long as it safe and their mums approve :) )   I said "him" as i didn't want to use "it", can't help me, I'm a boy!
