Thursday Nights fun racing / Re: Season 2 - Thursdays
« on: January 14, 2016, 10:51:38 PM »
Wanted to join in tonight but the little man had other ideas. On the nights I wanna play he's awake, and on the nights he falls asleep early i'm too tired to set my stuff up. Hopefully will be back more regularly soon.

Hardware & Reviews / New 'work' Laptop and selling old
« on: January 13, 2016, 11:55:00 AM »
Just ordered my new 'work' laptop; Alienware 15 R2 with a GTX980M 8gb GPU. Looks like it's just slightly better performance than a desktop GTX 960, so should be able to push my settings in AC up a little. http://www.dell.com/au/p/alienware-15-r2/pd?oc=y5185a4au&model_id=alienware-15-r2

If anyone is interested once it comes I'll be selling my current gaming laptop which is a MSI GS60 Ghost 2PC (http://www.msi.com/product/notebook/GS60-2PC-GHOST)

It cost $2300 + $100 for additional 8GB of RAM last January. I'd be happy to let it go for enough to allow me to build an okay gaming desktop, so somewhere around $1500. It's still quite a beast of a laptop, yet super slim and light.

They've a nice exchange rate if the US $600 device comes to AUD $1200.
Altho the shipping can be ridiculous from the US, sometimes, but it's still waaaay too much.

For us it's $649 + $131 postage + GST = 1200AUD

Not defending the price but there is  peripherals included - headphones, gamepad, vr remote etc.

Also, there will be a cheaper version soon supported by Facebook Ads :D

From what I read it doesn't come with the fancy remote, just an xbone controller.

Oculus is now available for preorder and costs a cool 1200aud delivered! Maybe I won't be doing some vr racing any time soon. Especially as I'd also need a new PC powerful enough to use it.

This guy got to try out the CV1 and HTC Vive and gives his impressions on them... interesting to listen to it.

*Note* you only see a bit of a demo on the CV1 right at the end.

Really looking forward to some VR AC this year! What track is this dude on anyway.

Assetto Corsa / Re: Racer Introductions

Hey all, I'm Jake from the Gold Coast. 29 years old, working from home and living the bachelor life.

Brand new to simracing and racing in general. I'll admit I've never been a car person - I drive a Mazda 3 and 99% of my time at the Indy/GC600 is spent looking for boobies - but for some reason I recently had the urge to get a racing wheel and give simracing a go. I picked myself up a G27 off Gumtree, bought a couple games (AC, Project Cars, Dirt Rally, Wreckfest and a free 3-month trial for iRacing) and have been having so much fun with it over the past couple weeks. It's basically consumed me, when I'm not racing or working I'm watching youtube videos on how to improve my lap times or day dreaming about my future 6DOF motion simulator with Occulus Rift sim rig.

AC is my favourite of the sims but I'm always having trouble finding servers where the players actually race instead of playing destruction derby with each other. I'm here because you guys seem to take the racing more seriously while still having a lot of fun- looks like a great little community. Hoping to get involved with the league next year.

Anyway I'm looking forward to meeting you all on the track and hit me up if you want to race.

Cheers

 ;D ;D ;D ;D

Nice one Bird. AWS FTW!

Sounds fun. I've got out of the habit of playing AC since the baby and need to get back into it more regularly! Wish I had a permanent setup as the main thing I can't be bothered with is setting up my wheel etc..

Nice Bruce, I see you're playing right now :)

I've just started the career mode in the Mini and working my way through some of the stages. Tried a few stages with manual and clutch but my 72 year old ankle (aged by a specialist  ;D) didn't like the clutch movement much...

Anyone playing this now it's been released? I got it last week and had my first go at it last night. Pretty fun. Anyone know of any FFB mods for the final version? The ones mentioned earlier seem to be for pre-release.

edit: After further reading perhaps there is no need for mods anymore as vanilla settings are okay

Lot of fun last night, great to be back after what feels like a long time off! The little one is 8 weeks now so guess it's around that long.

Escort was slippery as GB said and I found it a bit tricky; was trying to go in slow in and not spin the wheels, but ended up with people closing on me. One of the randoms got too frustrated trying to pass me and spun me around on the last turn of the race loosing me 2 places.

Abarth was loads of fun once I stopped driving it like the Escort and realised how much grip it had. Fist race was going great and go into 4th until the last lap where I put it around the first corner a bit quick and couldn't hold the slide taking some people out in the process (Gratulin?)  :-\
