Title: Season 20
Post by: Wally on November 28, 2017, 09:45:30 AM
After the high tech wizardry of the LMP1s, it's time to get back to basics, with some trackday style sprints. I have a single make series in one of the following cars in mind:

3 sprints, race 2 in order of race 1 finish, race 3 in reverse order of race 2 finish.

I also want to try some spice: every impact your car has will get a little bit of restrictor for the next race. This is to represent your team not being able to fix your car to 100% between the morning and midday races, for example. It will only be mild - something like an impact between 20 and 40 kph gets 2 points of restrictor, between 40 and 80 gets 5 points of restrictor etc. Nothing for minor scrapes. This would be for car to car impacts (for both cars) and also impacts with barriers. This will add more tension to the racing and may make people be a little more cautious. I.e. there are consequences for hitting things with your car.

I know sometimes it will feel "not fair" if someone else hits you... but that's motor racing, as they say. An emotional roller-coaster.

Give it a try... it doesn't feel as big in the backside as some Porsches.

  • Lotus 3-Eleven
  • KTM XBow-R

I'd like something lite and nimble, love the KTM but it may be a bit tricky for some  ;D Real tail happy under brakes.

I find the xbow is a little tricky at first, but once you learn it, it's very rewarding as you start to be able to chuck it around more and more.

It is a genuine mid-engine layout

Found it a bit cumbersome, it is a road car after-all. The KTM and Lotus are a lot more fun :)  BMW would probably give the closes racing that is possible in AC.

But if you roll it you can break your neck. :o

We had some great racing in the little BMW on Thursdays a while back.

After a quick test of the 4 cars, I found the BMW a little boring. But it's all about the racing. Of course, we'll have some fun runs in these cars to help your choice.

gt4 or bmw for me, probably leaning towards the bmw as a more traditional tin top :)

I'll be happy with either the Porsche Cayman GT4 or the Lotus 3 Eleven.

any reason we can't use the lotus 3 eleven and match it with something? or is that going too fast?  just trying to put in cars we haven't raced to my knowledge.

Yes. Single make races are a whole lot easier :)

Even on its own I think it's a good car for a single make season.

So it is.
And with a pretty good weight distribution from what I can find.
But still when I drove it (in AC) I felt the pendulum effect. :-\
