Yeah, there is that car choice strategy element that people might enjoy.

Yes Gratulin, the whole goal is just to give people close racing. If there's enough people on track, you're likely to get that anyway.

And your G930's will work better too without crackle. That's what I found when I upgraded my CPU.

I don't mind giving the car rental system a try, but in all honesty, it's not all that different to the handicap system. The end result is that the better you do, the slower car you drive. It's a slightly more complicated way to get to the same result.

Awesome seems to be the word of the day. :-\

Awesome. ;D 8)

How's your hardware coming along?

Ah, sorry gents for my absense, I was enjoying how hot I can be in bed, yesternight.  As it turned out I was 40 degrees hot.  :/

So you shut down because of overheating. Have you tried cleaning your fans and vents?

Thanks for the season Gratulin. Not often I get a chance to win a season. Just gotta turn up for more races than anyone else ;)

Mod Tracks / REAL TRACK - Modena
« on: May 01, 2015, 07:13:11 AM »
It's on the AC forums. I tried it last nigjt. It looks very, very good. It's a short, twisty track, similar to Magione in feel in a way, that would suit slower cars.

Thanks

OK, I'll put you in the Merc.

Bah, and already I can't make that McLaren F1 GTR round. But I'll have the server up on a prac/qual/race cycle.

Why don't you "take the bull by the horn" Bird, and put together exactly how it would work - money for each position, car costs, rounds, etc?  This would make it easier for everyone to look at and would save Wally having to figure it all out.

It seems like a good idea, but just need to get it off the ground.

Few reasons.
Because there wasn't / isn't any real enthusiasm towards it.  I've set it up last time - it's still standing, minus the cars & earnings of course.  And people had a looksie and we have stopped there.
But Wally's dislike explains it I guess :)

Also; because the result parser has been built for GTL, works on simbin titles, it'll have to be re-written for AC.  I'm actually wondering if we could connect into stracker directly and avoid the need to donwload/upload result files. I'd also like to whip up a cfg generator for it, so the admin can simply download the grid. (because the cars for most racers will change week to week )

Especially tricky is to set up the balance (car prices and the earnings & points per position).
It's a simple & flexible system, you can do nearly any sort of balancing with it. But it has to be thought through.

All this is lot of work to throw out on the window if in the end we won't use it :)

I'm going to think about how/what to do with it.  I think one way about it could be to have a consortium of a few people calling the car prices and earnings.

I'm wondering who here would like to help me out, though? (not coding, just helping out with the balanced setup)

Also the site could use a bit of design-loving and I suck at that.   Maybe we can ask Dick to help?  We'd have some lovely pink site I'm sure... :D

And of course I'd like to know if Wally is willing to give us a go in a season at some point :)

Sure, I'm all for variety. I'd like to give it a go some time. The car ranking I have developed from the top 5% RSR lap times is the best indicator of the relative performance of the cars, based on real world data. That would be the place to start to assign values to the cars.

I've been reading that this one is a little more sim-like, but not perfect.

Is anyone going to try this? It sounds vaguely promising, and the graphics look great. I haven't raced a rally sim since RBR. I might give it a look.

How many laps for the races, Wally? :)

15 laps.

With the GT cars, would it not be better to base the pecking order of cars and assign the handicaps/boosts relative to where the next race is? Although the average times may lay the cars out in that order, it seems a reasonable possibility given the broad variety of cars that someone could be assigned a faster/slower car for race 2 given their results in race 1 only to find that that particular car is at an advantage/disadvantage at race 2 resulting is a boost/handicap that would, in the end, not help to promote closer racing. Just my 2 cents.
That's a possibility, to rank the cars according to the next track, and something I looked at last time we had a handicapped season. It was all a bit too hard back then, but now that I've automated ranking the cars, it's much easier.

Maybe just pick a specific class GT3 or GT2 keep it simple let the fia create the parity haha or just go the hypers as marty said we just came off a handicap gt season.
This wasn't a handicap season. This was a ”drive a car you enjoy” season, your choice. There was no handicapping. We could do a GT season one day, but this time, it's hypercars.
