Title: S27R6: Oulton Park Race Chat
Post by: Wally on April 02, 2019, 11:41:36 PM
Congratulations to Phil on a dominant clean sweep: pole and all race wins and also the fastest lap in each race, which sees him take the championship lead from Joe with one round to go.

Lap 1 Penalties

Race 1
I had started turning into the fast left hander, Joe was coming up the inside and clipped my left rear and we both spun. Because Joe hit me from the rear after I was turning in, but also because I was turning in, I'm calling this a racing incident.

Season Standings
1. Phil.8, 328
2. Joe, 309
3. Wally, 293

We are racing at the International (No Chicane) layout.
3 x 11 laps.

Track: https://drive.google.com/open?id=14HfkoTSZaVhQmUM3HsPkQadLjBniJ4AM (https://drive.google.com/open?id=14HfkoTSZaVhQmUM3HsPkQadLjBniJ4AM)

It is very cold... the three races are 6, 8 and 8 degrees, which could pose a challenge, or make you consider your car and/or setup choices.

PS. All cars are affordable by some now. The earning rate is as I wanted, with the most expensive car reachable with a couple of rounds to go.

Hey Wally, when I use this track link or the one in the Car Dealer its shows as track missing in the server browser.
Says it looking for "oulton_park/internationalnochic" whereas this is "Oulton-park-nochic".
Thoughts...

I cannot get on the server, track is in red and says I don't have the content,  I notice the server says international in the cfg file, but the download does not have that layout

Hi Phil, the server says CONFIG_TRACK=internationalnochic, and several people have been on the server. Have you got a couple of different Oulton Park versions like I had? Did you download the track from the new link in the 1st post?

I did have a couple of different versions, but I deleted them both and downloaded the one in the first post
The download does not seem to have the international layout

I see what happened - I changed the link text in the first post, but not the actual link itself. Fixed.

Sadly, I’m an early out for this round. Found out that some of open mic issues from a couple of weeks ago were a dodgy wheel button and so it needs to be fixed. Also I found out that one of the kids may have begun to pull out the data cable from my wheel when they got their foot caught on it when climbing into my sim. Hope to be back for the next round .

I notice on ptracker it says I have auto heel toe on in the aids section,  But I don't,  I just checked to make sure,
why would that be, is there a hotkey or something to turn it on and off per car ?

Must be a bug, I don't have mine on either. It was diplaying correctly for little while after I reinstalled the game not long ago but it's back again

Yeah, must be a bug. I know the RSR rank is also buggy with the aids - I don't think AC always reports them correctly.
And bad luck with the hardware issues Brad - I hope you can get them fixed.

Looking at your times I'd probably go for the Nissan because of top speed.
I'm faster in the Mustang, but not sure if I can handle it in a race. It lacks agility...you steer it a bit like a boat :-)
Yeah, and this bloody fast left hander before the hairpin (think it's turn 4)...hard enough by myself, but with other cars all around me...a bit of a concern...going off there a bit too often anyway and that's pretty much the end of the race.
My prediction: Phil will be pissing all over us  ;D

It's going to be an interesting race. If there are some Abarths around, they could clog things up, for Phil especially... but there is that long back straight. I'm a tad slower in the Nissan, but can be very consistent in it.

I've done a 1.44.3 in the Abarth.  Hugely faster in the corners than Phil, but 31km/h slow on the straights so tough to know how it would pan out in a race!

Managed an okay 44 in the Nissan. Tried the mustang for a few laps and could probably get faster in it, but not sure about racing in it after spending most of the my time in the Nissan.

Anyone in the Mustang is going to loose some time at the start, but after that the long back straight should be enough for them to pass. Also seeing as Phil is now posting 43.6s I think we're all in trouble...

I'm in doubt for tonight, at the moment. :-\
I couldn't straighten my left arm last night, so I'll have to pass a "fitness test" to see if it's any better. :'(

Good pressure from Joe in race 2. I put in a couple of very sloppy laps in the latter stages of the race just to give Joe hope, but crushed his dreams of a podium by 0.352 seconds.

Race 3, I got a great start, and was trying mostly to stay in front of Joe, to gain some ground in the championship points, and hopefully to finish on the podium which gives you a bigger points gap to those behind. The start worked out well - I was 3rd behind Phil and Bird; Joe was 5th. But on lap 3, Rob in his Alfa had a big speed advantage behind me down the back straight, and he was close behind me coming into the fast right hander. I wasn't sure if Rob was going to try to pass there, so I carried too much speed into the corner, ran wide and slid into the barrier and across the track. Good pressure Rob! Luckily I missed everyone, but fell back to 7th, where I circulated behind Mael to the end, with a slightly damaged car.

It was a screwed up round, but still fun racing. Had to get off track and stop after turn 1/race 1 to see what's wrong with my wheel. Figured the emergency off was still pressed...yeah and by the time I worked that out everyone was gone :-(
Well, FFB was still screwed for the rest of the race...just bad.
I got involved in too many accidents in race 2 so that was a write off as well. The car must have looked pretty shit, but it was driving not too bad...well, forgot about points and just did some racing.
Race 3 was crash free I think...was just following Bird and Joe, but lacked speed to be able to attack.
Glad Wally picked the no chicane version...it's a nice track for the Mustang.
Cheers

This is one of the really good tracks, nice flow, enough elevation changes and no 40km/h hairpins/chicanes.

I did not dare to drive the races w/o TC, it's too easy to lose it and cause a accident, so I had no chance to stay near Phil.

Had a fun night, and managed to get away scratch-free (as in: I did not touch anyone).  R1 I had smacked one barrier  and got a pretty banged up car for the last few laps; broken windscreen & bent suspension.  That slowed me down a bit.   R2/3 were clean, and grats to Joe on R3 overtaking me and keeping the position!   First I thought I've lost some speed, but then looked at my laptimes and realised Joe gained some :)

Pretty good night for me. I watched the replay on my race 1 incident with Wally and glad he decided on a race incident as that was also how I saw it after the replay. In the moment I thought it was possibly more my fault so I redressed putting me in last place. Pushing too hard I spun off all on my own losing Wally into the distance. I made up several places due to other peoples mistakes. If I said I didn't laugh seeing Mael facing the wrong way on the grass as I passed him with a couple of laps to go, I'd be lying  ;D

Race 2 was great fun pressuring Wally. I had more overall pace but was nowhere a pass was going to be possible unless he made a mistake. He made a couple on the last couple of laps but not enough to get by, but was a lot of fun.

Race 3 was good. I didn't really try and fight the Mustangs off the line and just wanted to hold position or maybe pass Wally but that didn't happen so sat in behind him. Soon Rob blasted by down the straight and I followed him and Wally for a couple of laps until his pressure on Wally caused a mistake and he went off track with Rob and myself going by. I think I then got the position back from Rob going through T1. A few laps later Bird made a mistake going onto the grass which allowed me to get alongside and make a pass on the inside of the last right hander. After than I knew I had to be super consistent to be sure I had enough of a gap going onto the back straight to avoid him passing me, so just put my concentration hat on and manage to open the gap with each lap to finish 2nd.

LOL should have heard the choice language while I was doing my pirouettes on the grass.

Overall my night was a combination of very good laps interspersed with terrible lapses of concentration resulting in mediocre results.  Sorry for all the bumps Jamie, tricky in a bunch with all the different braking distances. It did end up in quite a good battle though, Even after the pass I had to push like mad to stay ahead of you.

I had fun and it was nice to be somewhere near the midfield pace. I made a few tweaks to the graphics to up the framerate and it seemed to work OK. It was a great battle and I could slowly reel you in bwfore making a mistake and seeing you disappear ahead again.

by far one of my better rounds
