Title: S30R1 - Red Bull Ring (Oct 1)
Post by: Wally on September 25, 2019, 08:15:22 PM
Kcender took pole and narrowly came second in race 1 after a close fought battle with Mael, who showed an impressive turn of speed signalling he's a contender for the pointy end of the standings. Kcender reversed his fortunes of race 1 by switching from soft tyres to super softs, and won from Mael convincingly in race 2. Maki Engineering take the early lead from Krahl Racing in the teams' standings.

Any additional teams for this season? We need a bit of  competition, its too easy for Maki Engineering to crush Krahl and Aleph   ;D

Need to use clutch with heel and toe on down shift even with sequential or these cars spin, bacc ford setup feels good

It seemed to depend on the car a bit for me. Or as long as you brake early the time your downshifts you'd be okay, but that's potentially slower.

Oh rito, only tried the falcon and driving it without heel and toe sent me into a spin almost every time lol. Fun to drive.

Thems fightin' words. Team Aleph Null is set to tear you a new Donkey hole.
Only if I can work out how to stay awake past 1930 :'(

Wonder why the steering wheel of the Holden is not centered....probably a fault in the mod.

You have the wheel on? (which Holden?)

What do you mean by having the wheel on? It's calibrated correctly and straight with all other cars. It's the Holden ZB.
I see, you mean the virtual wheel. No, that's always turned off with me, but it's clearly out of centre...maybe 10deg or a tad more.

The camera that is your 'eyes' can't be off by 10 degrees as it doesn't matter where you put the driver, even facing backwards his 'eyes' are always facing forward.
If you mean the default view seems to be offset to the right a little then adjust that using the 'onboard settings' app.
My steering wheel is out of centre by approx 10deg, but the car is going straight. I never noticed something like that with any other car and I checked if the wheel is centered in the simucube firmware.
So I have to steer (I think) left to go straight.

Make sure all the toe settings are symmetrical in your setup. I once spend a hours fuming over a car not driving straight, reinstalling wheel drivers the lot. Only to realize the setup was the problem.

Hey Wally, you've done a lot of BoP-ing with cars, are the AI times representative? ???

I've only used them to assess the impact of ballast and restrictor on the one car. I wouldn't trust them to balance different cars.

Shush... I would do it from work but don't have my GUID here

Edit: The thought of the Nissan scared me enough to search though my messages and find my GUID  :P

I have not done a lap on them yet, I just presumed they would melt after a lap or 2

About 6:00 Eastern, when I generate the entry list. But I see you're signed up now.

Haha...yeah, you're right...messed up the toe settings. Congrats on your win tonight - great job.

I was doing alright in race 1, up in 4th, but in the latter stages I had some really loose laps and rapidly lost 4 spots. The worst moment was when I got too close to Freezer and locked up the brakes trying not to hit him, and veered off the track into a barrier. In race 2, I probably should have joined the masses on super softs  :-X

The lap times are interesting in the race results. You can see that a lot of people on SS tyres had their best laps on about lap 14, with the lap times best later in the race, while the softs peaked a bit earlier but stayed more consistent. I definitely felt in both races that on softs, I was getting caught and hassled later in the race.

Had some really good racing there, starting from the back with a focus of looking after the ss tyres and not upsetting anyone I really enjoyed myself, felt like a supercars driver lol. Applying plenty pressure seemed to make a few crack and vice versa but luckily no major spins for me, some side by side with a few too, one good one with DaveO was a stand out. I just used Bacchulums set and didn't worry about any of that either, very good. Thanks guys

Good nights racing for me.  R1 was a nose to tail battle between Wally, myself and Bacchulum which saw me as the hunter, hunted and busiest!
I ran softs and was consistent across the race but I note I was 30 seconds behind winner Mael at the end even though I was 5th.
R2 was time to try the super softs.  I hadn't even noticed these in practice!!  I silly spin on lap 3 saw me drop 4 spots, but it was a good chase back
to 8th, battling most of the second half with Bueller.  Supersofts proved to be around a second a lap quicker for me and I set my quickest lap on L17.

Won't be here next week as going away, so see you at Watkins Glen.

p.s. Well done Mael . . . killed it!

I don't mix well with hairpins...or tight chicanes.

Race 1: I was having fun till I spun coming off a slow corner, then did it again for a few laps and had a stinker.

Race2: I was having fun till I spun coming off a slow corner, then did it again for a few laps....and on the way collected poor Rob after losing it, and had a stinker. I'm very  sorry Rob.  Then I quit after a few more spins. Hopefully I be able to get some more practice before the next round, and can keep it on the track.

Hey Doobs, don't worry about it, I don't take racing too seriously. I usually finish about last anyway, so no big deal.

Stupid mistake at turn one first race resulted in me being by myself almost the whole race.
Strangely enough race two was even more lonely without a mistake. The sharp right-handers, especially the 2nd one, were always borderline losing my rear end.
It's a good track for these cars.

maybe one of them might suit. ;)
