As usual, here's a pre- and post-race chat thread.

Let me start off with a warning; check your pedals. :)
Why?
How  much time do you think a spiking pedal is worth?   How about a spiking clutch?

I've been running slower and slower lately - including the other night together, I could not get near my pb let alone under it.  Today I've loaded it up and noticed I can't hit 204 on at the s/f line, which was usual before, only about 200...weird.  No matter how well I've tried.  Frustrated as hell, I've run a few laps, but could not get below 2.02.    Fark me that's nearly 3s off my pb (59.2 it was).

At this point I've gotten suspicious.  I've put the "pedals" app up, and noticed that there's a tiny bit of movement on the clutch input, Really small, but as it seems quite significant.   I've put a hefty deadzone on the pedal, went back...and within 5 laps produced a 58.6.

So all in all that little spiking has cost me a good 3 seconds indeed.  I've now hit 207km/h at the s/f line.  Amazing.

Other lesson; the basic Fanatec pedal isn't that much better than the old A1 set after all - it was spiking too, but it was doing it after long years of service.

Anyways, happy with the time.  Btw, Marty, you don't seem to be up there - or is it just me?  Look me up on steam (ysu) and add me as a friend, will you?

Gents, anyone new here coming to join AC, you're very welcome.

I very much recommend reading the sticky post that tells you the basics:

Then read around if you like, feel free to introduce yourself, and come on TS a bit earlier on race night to sort out any issues we might run into.

General Discussion / Assetto Corsa server
« on: May 10, 2014, 09:51:29 PM »
Gents, and mostly Wally (I think Wally is running the AC server at the moment, correct?)

I'm wondering where is it and what are the parameters.

There maybe a cost-effective way to manage this - altho the current solution maybe superior, dunno.

If need be, I can set up a race server very quickly - I've figured out how to do it on Amazon AWS (cloud), after pixelboy on the arse forums gave me a few tips.  That's a very cost-effective way to run a server occasionally.
The reason it's cost effective and great - maybe it's not obvious - is that it can be started when it's needed, and stopped afterwards.

Costs around 50c/hr for a mid-sized one - but it's not good to have it on 24/7, that'd be a bit hefty.

So a race meeting can be had for a couple of bucks.   And it can be scaled to requirements (processing power, ram, etc...)

Racing general / wheel & pedal free to a good home
« on: March 05, 2014, 02:23:32 PM »
I'd like to offer these free to anyone on the central coast (posting would be a bit too much, these are heavy items!)

- An A1 pedal set, fully working. .
- A working, but somewhat damaged Fanatec porsche gt3 rs2 wheel

The pedal needs a cleaning, maybe new pots, it's sometimes playing up a bit, nothing major just so you know.

The wheel has one broken force feedback motor, I've been told (it's rather choppy - altho still usable) if you want to tinker with it, you may be able to restore it to full working cond. with the right motor - I could not bother with it, and Fanatec does not have spare parts in Australia.

if I don't get any takers in a week or two I'll post it on ocau.

General Discussion / New TS guests
« on: February 05, 2014, 09:09:47 AM »
Gents, there'll probably be a few new guests on TS, from the ARSE forums, once chap called Quincy asked about TS and I've offered our services, they're playing dayZ at the moment.
Just saying if someone asks for access and talks about reference from ARSE forums, he's not trying to be funny, it's a real thing :)

few ppl have already purchased (including me), some are downloading already, so it works. You get a key. Just make sure you chose the origin DRM, pc download, standard, so you don't have to link your origin account. (that may lead to trouble)

General Discussion / What happened
« on: November 19, 2013, 09:24:12 AM »
As it came up a few times;  the latest un-responsiveness of the forum was due to some server side issue, where the parameters never got through apache, so the program was generating the same 'front page' all the time, regardless what parameters were sent from the browser.

They've probably restarted the server before we could act upon it.
