Title: Thursdays next season ideas

I am running fun runs for another 2 weeks or so after tonights run. I am liking exploring a lot of the cars we never use, even if some are not historic, there is a lot of cars in AC  I have never driven before.

If anyone has an idea for a season let me know, maybe one of the cars we run in these fun runs even, I am curious about next weeks run :-X

will also run that for a fun run and then we will have tested a decent amount to get a gauge of what everyone likes

I am working out one or 2 more fun run format weeks and was wondering where the link to this is and how big is it, if its too big for my crappy mobile data at the moment I will run it week after next and do something next week that requires no download.

Presuming it is too big for me to download does anyone have any requests of something kunos or something I am likely to have

I would really like to use the Group 5 mod and leave the track selection open to suggestions from the drivers.

Sounds good to me  :). I think as a gesture of thanks for all the work he does for XGN, we can at least use some of his work 8).

Another idea, it doesn't need to be six consecutive weeks. We can break it up with Kunos friendly recruitment days and other 'Fun Runs' and 'Test Days'.

Can anyone remember the name of the historic track that we used some time back that had a twisty section at the start and finish, seperated by two long straights surrounded by trees, with no brake markers and a dog leg in the middle :( :(

For the third race how about rolling reverse Championship order. First race would see us seeded by the rankings that Wally keeps, and from then on we will have results from each week so the starting order can be published even before the event.

Got a fixed version of Zolder 67 as well.

After I install that mod ,when AC is loading it gets to "Loading car metadata 100%", then sits there with a spinning circle forever.
Any ideas.
Only thing I can think of is I can't get AC to run unless I have "force 32 bit" ticked. Is this mod only programmed for 64bit?
Just remembered that after I installed the Formula 1 1975 mod  I had the same problem.

You also must use 'Content Manager', not that the mod is incompatible with the standard launcher it's just that 'Content Manager' is so bloody good it deserves the imperative. ;) Especially as the standard launcher is a steaming pile of proverbial. >:(

Double check you folder structure with the download.

You may need to delete the 'Assetto Corsa' folder from within your 'My Documents' folder, but that involves losing all your settings. >:(

That was not my intention, could you start from pits maybe ?
If we go straight from a "Practice Session" to a Race , how are starting grids slots allocated?

I guess that is a common thing with AC & RF2, but how do I check that?

You can backup all your local steam files for each game so you don't lose all the downloaded tracks and cars. If you go the win reinstall route.

I guess that is a common thing with AC & RF2, but how do I check that?
All files successfully validated.
I was thinking that you have somehow ended up with a 32-bit Steam install or some setting that is forcing 32-bit versions to be downloaded. A re-install of Steam should be a lot less stressful than a Windows re-install. I admit I am on a 100mb, unlimited internet connection (Phil are you listening!!) so a re-install of even the whole of AC is not a big issue.

Steam uninstall/install is no big deal if you have backed ALL you local files for each steam game ( I did it without backing up, and lost 3  years worth of car and track downloads for AC :'( :'( :'(). Worth a try, would be sad to see you miss the next season GW.

 Wasn't the 32 bit thing but looks like I had too many cars installed (687) in the cars folder, so deleted 46 cars and it now works.
Might have to look at my tracks folder as its got 490 tracks.
Might have to get my head around this content manager thing. Is there a manual/how to for it?

I'd just move them all to another folder and then copy the ones you think are worth using back into the main track and car folders (all KS tracks and cars of course). I did that and haven't found too many tracks I am missing and most of those I needed a new version of anyway.

With CM you get to see all your cars in one giant list where you can disable a car or delete a car.

Yep, good idea, I did that with RF2 and found the game loaded much quicker too.
 I have this bad habit of downloading and installing every mod and track that appears on Racefactor , then only trying about 15% of them.

I found Sachsenring just a bit too twisty for these cars Gratulin ,but have yet to try Zolder 67.
Agreed. It is a good track but when I tried it I needed to really nurse even the BMW GR.5 around the twisty track. Not fun at all.

Zolder67 is fantastic in these cars. It is interesting that the modern Zolder on the other hand is horrible in these cars. Good example of how tracks have changed to match advances in race car tech.

So between then and now we could run one or two Kunos only and public fun runs and then another series of some kind ? ? ?

OTTOMH, Forma Easter, There's a variety of these, run a different one each week, on obscure Eastern Block tracks.

We have Watkins and Sonoma and there are at least 4-6 differing ovals out there.

I was thinking, but hadn't acted on, prepping the BAC Mono to run with the Kunos KTM. I think the KTM will get a run on Tuesday some time. Fingers crossed I can get the BAC up to Tuesdays standards. :P

I like the F40 Competizione and also have the 288 GTO evoluzione, The F40's progenitor. They could run together say, in a Father Son event. :o

The IER pack may be too modern for the ethos of Thursday?

2101 and 2105 use the same physics and both can be found at Race Department.

2106 whilst the newer car is an older mod and will require me to bring it in line with the above.
Much like last seasons' 1600s I'll make the 2106 a car for slower drivers.

Not sure we need a faster car for the slower drivers with this mod Seanus, last Thursday it was very difficult for Phil or Bacchulum to get past other drivers , I think the racing is very close as is and a faster car may unbalance this, just my 2cents worth.
I was thinking of using the same tracks to make it easier for the people who do not have time to practice but I am always happy to try new tracks and will also test.

To be very honest I was looking forward to a nice easy season with a lot of close racing at tracks we already know (and a great selection of tracks they are :)). This way it makes for close racing from the first race as all drivers will (in most cases) already know the track. Last Thursday  it was  great to see Rob at the pointy end of a race fending off challenges from the faster drivers, what more could  we hope for  from a Flattops Thursday Series.

I really think we should give the Ladas a season first, they have  proven to give the results we are after and do a season later in the Sprite, which I also like very much.

I did have my own conversion, but others do a much better with the 3D part, as I seem to baulk at learning how to so it myself.  :-[

The 2101 and the 2105 should be included, having the same physics.  ;D

'cept I would drop some tracks because of quality and/or season length, as it is with including the fun runs some seasons end up 10 weeks long.

With the testing I did they all were ok, the only problem I had was I have so many Cobras on my HD ,I was not sure I was testing the ones you wanted tested :-\.

If anyone wants to work out a season with all the links and info and write it up please do, I will set it up on the server.
  I am currently having all my time taken up with going into a partnership with a mate of mine who runs a very profitable pizza shop,  $5000 a week for 16 hours opened, but he can never get away from it for breaks, so we are going into a partnership that will benefit him with time off and me with something to do, Its not about the money for me, just a bit of fun :)  I actually have worked there for a while for something to do ( being retired reasonably young you can run out of things to do :) ) on Sundays on the ovens and I fill in when he needs someone but I am slow making the pizzas :) need practice, so now I am now learning the fine art of making pizza and I have no time. And as we open on Thursdays I am not sure how long I can keep doing Thursdays for, but we are still working things out and I hope not to work Thursdays as I love my Thursday racing

Lots of us liked the MX5 cup and it was suggested we do a season. I checked out the car and found my skin! which means we have already done a season, albeit Tuesday.

I'm hoping I got everything pretty close to reality. Tad extra weight, that wing gives a bit of anti-lift rather than any real downforce. Ever so slightly wider tyres but still the same type. I really wanted this to work and  I really appreciate the effort that you have put into it Seanus ;) but for me( it could quite possibly be just me) the car was just too difficult to control even with the "silky nickers" tyres  :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(

This sounds interesting , not having tested any of them yet ,  will they have decent setup options to at least correct any horrid toe and camber issues these types of cars always seem to have ?   I usually try to stay away from older tin tops as in my mind correctly or incorrectly I am 100% positive that those racing these cars in their hay day would of been able to change alot more things in the setup than what we are normally given options for in AC.

Toe, Camber and a little bit of ride height(for Rake) will be the only things adjustable. See the latest iteration of the Lefoe for the direction I'm going in.

The 911 does feel decent.
Do you know how they mid-engined it?
My dad and a mate mid-engined a Beetle for rallying, about 73-74.
They basically flipped the engine/gearbox over the axle into the where the rear seat was, then spun the engine to the gearbox (so it wasn't upside down).
They then reversed the gearbox internals, so it didn't have 4 reverse gears. ;)
I wonder if they were inspired? ???

Whole thing's a bespoke tubular chassis with 908 running gear, once you turn the motor around all you need to do is flip the diff left to right.

Do you think the spring frequencies and damper rates are in a good spot for such a car? I'd like to keep them fixed or with a tiny amount of range just to tip the balance one way or the other. Which way the wheels point I've left wide open.

I've done a quick setup for each car, at Philip Island, they could be more refined over time.
I managed to get the values I was after with what was available, the exception being the XU1 rear (but if you can't change it, you work around it).
Each car definitely has it's own "feel" and needs to be driven accordingly, which is nice.
They are certainly a challenge to drive. ;D

Shifted testing to Willow Springs and noticed something in the Imp.
Crew chief is reporting locking right front while I'm accelerating.
I believe it's when the lifted, inside front re-lands but it gives a noticeable pull when it does.
Not sure if this is intentional or the wheel inertier is a bit high. ???

Dated tomorrow but uploaded today the Valiant gets a lot more camber compensation at the rear. Previously the Hillman received De-Dion rear suspension. And the other two seemed to be quite good out of the box.

First time I've used Camber Extravaganza and noted that as well as giving a delta to 'ideal' camber it can also be used as a guide for rollbar stiffness.
If the outside wheel has gone into positive camber but CC still recommends adding more positive camber then the car has rolled too much and you need to stiffen that end.   :o :o

I tested them pre-this @ Glenford.
All very close except the Lotus around 0.4s down, to be expected given engine capacity.

Not sure yet, got over a month to sort it out 

For the car/cars hopefully some older rally car preferably, but might have to go modern car if they don't cut it compared to a modern rally x car

Have had a quick look and there is a few mods tracks so hopefully they are fun to drive.  I've found that the more open tracks tend to be more fun than the tight and twisty tracks.

Will be more like fun runs than a proper season , do a couple of weeks and if its well received then do a couple more .

My Sons girlfriend got me playing some rally x on PC2 and was quite fun so curious as to how it would be in AC.

Just a couple of fun runs for something different. I'm going to test it out tonight see how AC handles rallyx tracks apparently I read somewhere that AC doesn't actually model gravel roads properly its just gives them less grip.

Yes Downforce is negative Lift but AC already does this and calls it DOWNF
Also notice the lift to drag ratio of the REAR wing 1:12 !!!!!  An entire Formula style race car typically has a L to D ratio of 3:1 so each individual wing element must be a lot higher than that, and definitely not the reverse as in this case?


What I have done is flipped to wings the right way up, and added BODY Lift to pretty much cancel the Downforce, as these cars would have struggled to reach Net Downforce, and set the REAR wings L to D ratio to 1:1, and added back the lost drag to the BODY.

Will do. But I guess because Bazza hasn't  done any cars with net downforce this has never been noticed. In the end you may not even notice the difference as the lift figures are only in single digits anyway, so less affect on handling than taking the Cat to the Vet.

I've had problems with different browsers here over the years. Firefox on Android used to give me tiny fonts, and still messes with linebreaks. I often have to resort to turning off the rich text editor.

Two similar new ideas:


Karting Festival, where each night features a track which has normal and Karting layouts. Start in the small Kart on the Kart layout and switch up for each race to finish on the full circuit in the Superkart.


Similar thing with Oval cars, using the Road courses and Oval of the same location, but staying with the same car throughout.


For Practice we could use two servers, and you jump between them. Come Race time, make Qual 10 min so you can get back in sync with that races car/setup.


Oval setups should not be a problem as we have a reliable and much appreciated source for these.  ;)

Both ideas sound good to me Seanus; I would prefer only a single car change per night, although with the 10min Qual idea I may be able to cope with more car changes.
