This will be a fun run of 3 sprints where we can try the three season 18 cars before you cast your vote.
Track: Silverstone National
Race length: 13 laps
The pre-race practice session will have all three cars so you can try them all, then the races will be one car at a time with a brief qualifying session each: AE86, Escort, Celica.
-
Server's up for combined practice before the indivdual make sprints.
-
Where do I find the Celica? (There is always one ::) )
-
I think it needs to be bought in readdy to race addon

hmmm
Escort - most fun/skill reqd, great sounds
Celica - very close racing but the car lacks emotion - good sounds and pops and whistles
AE86 Tuned - ::)

I actually enjoyed the Escort the least, because that was the car that felt like it was going to spin all the time. My clumsy right foot prefers not to nurse a car around a corner :) I know you're supposed to chuck it in and go sideways, but that always felt like I was going to lose it.
I had some really good close racing in the AE86 and the Celica. The AE86 is a little bit slo-mo, but it also means you can have some great side by side racing, and bumps from other cars aren't the end of the world. It still moves around and slides enough to not be entirely predictable. The Celica sounds the best, and the choice of S, M & H tyres leads to a few more strategic choices.
Decisions, decisions...

Thanks everyone for a fun night racing and sorry about the first lap in the last race. I just couldn't stop and car coming back onto the track.
I have to agree with Wally's comments completely. I had the most trouble trying to get to terms with the Escort and letting it drift through the corners as it's not really suited to my driving style. Every time I thought I had a good lap, I was miles off.
Whatever the choice is I am just happy to be back in the sim again. I'll work on getting the microphone working for round 1 too.
Thanks again

Here's my ad for the AE86. This is the final lap battle between myself, Phil and Kcender. Check out my sideways drift at Brooklands!

Awesome racing with everyone. Again, apologies about the incident during the Escort race; I was having trouble keeping that thing in check.
I really enjoyed the 86 - had plenty of close battles and found myself swapping places with Dave and robin quite a lot throughout most of the race.
I was drifting T2 in the Celica almost every lap which wasn't ideal =P Fun though.

That was a lot of fun, having done zero practice before the night it was great to just jump into the cars cold ona track I knew and have a crack. Initially I chose the Celica as my preference for the season but I think that was all those hours of Sega Rally at the arcade clouding by judgment because I fell in love with the Escort. The noise, the handling, the sliding, it was terrific, my only problem with it was that I had the speakers turned up so loud that I couldn't hear Teamspeak in my headphones!
-
Enjoyed all of the cars but the Escort has the most depth.
The two Toyota's I suspect would drive the same no matter which track they on, whereas the Escort demands a bit more skill and adaptions for different tracks. Setups would also be a bit more effective in changing the handling of the car in the ford.
-
Definitely the Escort for me. 8)
The strangest thing was the difference different people felt about the AE86.
Wally and others found it very stable while myself and others found it rotated at the drop of a pin. ??? :-\
I wonder if it's affected more by controller setups than other cars. ???
I wonder, because we've never had such a disparity of feel amongst the members before.
-
I wish I could of joined in for this practice, my internet ran out of data a few days ago and resets at midnight tonight so one more night to go before I can actually internet at home. I guess I'm going to watch the state of origin tonight then... I'm still voting for the escort, it's always fun.

Did you see my AE86 drift in the video? That was actually fairly controlled. The car felt great to me. That was just using the default setup.

I did Wally, beautifully done ;D ;D

Yet if I used more than 15% throttle out of Luffield, it spun instantly and uncontrollably.
And I'm pretty good at catching slides, hence my love of cross-plies, but I couldn't catch the AE86.

Trying to remember what I did to the setup ;D Suspect I raised the rear end up a bit while softening the springs. I found it as solid as a rock.
