The prac server is saying checksum failed.  I gather it hasn't been updated?  Anyone know how to update?
I can take a look.  I thought Marty had already updated it.

Would love to join if there is space available, otherwise I don't mind, understand if I have last preference for a spot if there are too many signups.

Prefs:
Audi R8 LMS Ultra
Mercedes SLS AMG GT3
BMW Z4 GT3
It's looking OK so far. If there is overflow, we have a reserves list, and reserves usually end up getting a few races.

Any lap of Nords is never a waste. 8)
You're right. I really enjoy driving on it.

It was fun racing. Some close racing, some passing, some drifting...
In qual, the car felt like it really snapped back hard the other way if you tried to correct oversteer. I had reduced the front dampers to 3 and it felt better. Maybe a placebo.

No server changes apparently, so no server updating required.

Good one Rob. See you Tuesday.

It was that last section after the long straight. All I did was run a little wide on the left, and ”the marshalls are saying you've cut the track”. Yep, 8 mins ”wasted" :)

I've done a 8:07. I was on track for about a high 8:05.x when I crashed on about the last corner :(

AJ, did you also download the fixed surfaces.ini from the download site?

since I have had to reinstall pc I can no longer join AC TS channel and will need to be dragged in or something
I'll do that later.

I already damped the ballast changes by only applying 70% of what the change should have been. I think what exacerbates the swings is that everything in racing is so damn variable. E.g. with the same ballast, I did the middle lap time at Monza, and then won realitively easily at Barcelona.

Next time, I'd definitely only apply a little ballast, like 30% of the calculated amount, to just tighten the field a little.

Hi guys, I'm AJ. 36 years old, happily married with no kids and two cats. Used to work in IT but recently I've been helping my Mrs out with her Photography business.

Been Sim Racing on and off ever since I got one of these bad boys at about the age of 6
. I recognise a few names on here from around the traps and maybe some of you recognise me too (I go by the name AJ in AC as well). Look forward to seeing you more on the track! :)

Hi AJ. Welcome to XGN. A fun series of 4 weeks at the Ring starts next Tuesday. You can read about it here:

Come along.... I'll PM you the password.

”New improved smoothing and "anti lag" systems for both client and server”. I wonder what this is? Will be interesting to see.

According to one of the AC staff on the forums, ”Three meters warps (bad Vallelunga connection) have disappeared.”

It is a bit of a lottery. Imagine if everyone did exactly the same lap time. Who would win? Anybody could win. The ballast was always intended to promote closer racing. Perhaps as Stan has implied, the goal should not be to try to squash the field right into the middle, which jumbles up the ”natural” order, but just compress it a little, to leave the field in the ”correct” order, but just bring it a little closer. That could easily be done by reducing the amount of ballast that is given, to say half, or even less. That could be interesting.

What you don't see is that I constantly calculated, in spread sheets, how much ballast has slowed down people's lap times based on actual times, and refined the ballast amount. It ends up being pretty accurate, bearing in mind that it can vary from person to person, track to track and even how you drive on the night.

Thanks for the kind words GB. It's not the first season of use... it's something like the 16th. It started in the netKar days.

So like Wally said, at the moment the ballast is designed to give the GB's 180kg or more ballast and will swing them towards 16th position or worse on occasion because the ballast is designed to make everyone equal. Therefore it has to be quite brutal to slow down the fast guys in respect to the bottom half of the field. I think that's just too soul sapping for the fast guys.
If we had a cap (either 100 or even 50kg) in play, the result would be to make the mean lap time go down (because GB and his fellow aliens  would have less weight and be faster). Consequentially, less people would get ballast because it would be harder to beat the mean time. The result of this would compress roughly the top half of the field and still leave the GB's competitive.
That's my $2 worth :D ($2!! Where's my $2!!!!  :-X)

No, its not designed to put them 16th. It's designed to move everyone to the middle.

The target lap time was actually the median - i.e. where half the people were faster, and half were slower.
