Gratulin and I played with damage a bit last night, and I'm tempted to turn it off for league races. It's a bit gimmicky. Windscreens shatter too easily, engine and gearbox damage is too easy with an H shifter (and my rough gear changes). For the rest, its pretty cosmetic, and not even very realistic looking. If you hit something really really hard you may break your suspension and have to drive with a bent steering wheel.

But my inclination is to turn it off. I think it will just make racing more painful rather than immersive.

Yeah I noticed screen cracked all too easily... couldn't work out if my driving sucked after the few weeks off or damage was making car hard to drive  :P

Yeah a small rear-ending cracks the windscreen & a bigger hit will result in a bent suspension.   I dunno...maybe wait with it indeed :)

Don't know if it's related, but I had severe stuttering when damaged offline.
But that was with severe damage as well (3 corners yellow). :-\

It's a real shame about the damage. Really does look like an after thought.
But i can understand that it's a whole new set of physics to deal with. Let's just hope it improves as it is a very important part of realism and immersion I think.

Really, outside of the core physics and graphics engines, the rest is pretty rough.

On the server, all I have is damage level from 0 to 100. Visual only would be nice.

Definitely not damage IMO.

My concern is that the area of your car that receives damage seems to be random, ie. you hit something on the left and your rear bumper gets dinted, etc.

I thought it was only the 'screen that was random (punched up the ARSE and my screen cracked). ???
Although severe ie., suspension, damage seems to be accurate-ish. :-X

Done 4-5 laps in the new AMG GT, I had to crash it hard quite a few times before it became un-drivable.
  I didn't get the impression it was too sensitive. The cracked windscreen didn't bother me. I kinda like it.
Maybe street cars are a lot squishier, seeming they are road cars?
