Round 5: Nurburgring race chat

I might try the tyre wear multiplier in race 2 again, but maybe 6x this time to make it a little more interesting. I'll do some testing.

Should be an interesting season closer, with the top 3 standings currently being:
1. Marty 136
2. Wally 130
3. Guybrush 126

If we finish the round with the same points as Monza, we'd be heading for:
1. Marty 182
2. Guybrush 176
3. Wally 173

I just did a full length 13 lap stint on 6x tyre wear, and it works better here because the tyres wear more evenly, with a better spread of curves compared to Monza. At Monza, you could fry your rears away while the fronts still had 97% grip, so it would be impossible not to spin. By about lap 11, pretty much all four tyres were down to 90, which is as low as the wear will go on hards, but it is still fairly drivable. It just feels like a lower-grip track surface. It might open up the window for some mistakes late in the race.

So 6x it will be for race 2.

Sounds interesting but that will be very setup dependant, my wear at Monza was very even with my left front and rear tyres wearing at near exact rates just the front right was about half a lap behind.

This will be a much higher wearing track then monza overall and so tyre use may have a fair impact on the last race. Still Guybrush was getting less wear then I was in the second race at Moza with mine dropping to 97% around lap 5 or 6 but his was much closer to the end. In a few l9nger runs I tried with 5x wear I never dropped below 97% there though.

Is the practice server set for 6x wear Wally as I will give it a run tonight if it is. My server will stay up with short qualy and race at 100% wear most of the week I think. I will be away from sat to Tuesday hopefully back in time for the race at least.

It is setup dependent.
My first tyre to go 97% at Monza was my left front :o

That would suggest you had a slightly understeery setup.

This may actually be the best test if your setup is more understeery or oversteery.  Altho I'm guessing it's also driving style; if you lock your fronts or light the rears up, there's nothing saving that tyre...

Sorry I don't mean to say they're bad, they're nice and safe, it's just a matter of preference.
It's really handy in the wet, though, that's for sure :)

I know I have a 'unique' driving style through corners, and anyone who's followed me would agree. :P

I'm an idiot.  Spent about an hour or so on the XGN server doing a setup, each time thinking that it was too "tailey" and couldn't get it right.

Then after probably an hour and a half I realised that my tyres were at 80-odd percent and remembered the accelerated tyre wear was on!

Phill and I are both saying "it feels slippery", "are you sure the track is at 100%?", "there has to be something wrong", etc.  At least Phill had an excuse...

Thanks for the reminder. I'll put it back to 1x later.

I've got the tyre wear back to 1x on the practice server, so Guybrush can weave his setup magic.

Setup in the usual place.  So far good for my usual 6th place in RSR and a few tenths of the WR.  Not sure how it will go on the tyres though as the front is fairly stiff with a bit extra camber.
