“The thing my mate drove started its trickery with a 12-volt battery poked into a six-volt casing – illegally of course,” Tuckey wrote. “He cut the tops of the front suspension towers to get the angles right and heated the banjo (diff) centre in a big press and bent the axle (housing) to get two degrees of neg. The tailshaft was ex-Customline, with the heavy-duty yokes machined to fit the Holden. He had an alloy flywheel and a big Dodge Six harmonic balancer to stop the habit of breaking cranks at $150 each. Some of this, of course, was legal and even the mainland guys bent the axles.
“But I don’t think they had spare wheels made out of fibreglass…he used plastic putty to make a mould, cast the wheel and painted it black. It would hold about 5psi of air to give the tyre substance. The boot, when they inspected the tyre, looked beaut. It was all upholstered in hand-stitched leather. The scrute's would say ‘lovely’ and shut the lid. What they didn’t see under the leather was the whole rear bulkhead cut out and replaced by one diagonal brace and the floor pan replaced with fibreglass. Only that brace held the two sides of the car apart.
“The back seat was just a spring steel frame with the trim stretched over it and would collapse if anyone ever sat in it. But nobody ever did because three of the doors had their handles welded shut, mainly because all the door and window mechanisms had been taken out and steel rod welded in to keep the glass up. There were even little fibreglass lock buttons (glued) in the holes – in the locked position. Only the driver’s door would open and had everything working. The floors had their centres replaced with fiberglass and painted silver underneath (to look like steel)."

Thursday Nights fun racing / Season 40 - Ford vs. Ferrari (not quite)
« on: July 13, 2023, 09:29:11 PM »

Two re-engined Maserati Tipo 61s, one Ford 289 V8, the other a 3.0 litre Ferrari TR V12. Both based on real cars, but here massaged slightly to give identical performance.

The Estonia 19 is reserved for Jeffro and VDub, as it is the same car but weighs 60kg less.

I can ballast the car if needed.

Same Track with THIS.

:o Night and Day. :o

Also; Content Manager>Settings>Assetto Corsa>Controls>Patch> Extra Option E & F

Set a Key or Button for each, to enable Onboard Swaybar adjustment.

I had some trouble finding free Keys\Buttons that were also recognised by CM, YMMV

Cycles each setting from -3 to +3 (7 positions) and loops.

It's in the data files, but it probably isn't being done for actual 4WS, but rather to replicate flexible bushings which cause/allow toe change with load, as AC's joints are nominally solid and can't do this.

The controller uses Steer angle and Speed as inputs, so I'd need to check, but in the pits the speed input would scale the effect to zero.

They all have Four wheel steering, but I've found reducing Rear Toe to zero or even below seems to work for me.

The 'suspensions' app has a rear wheel steer trace and if I'm reading it right movement to the right of the line means the rear is trying to spin the car around, whilst movement to the left is trying to move the whole car sideways rather than spinning.

On default setup the app is nearly always showing to the right, at zero toe the app hovers either side of the line and at full negative static toe the app stays all the way to the left.

I could be wrong and YMMV.

I haven't tried this car yet, but I've been getting 'disc glow' errors/crashes on your recent interseries cars.....

Took this long to find the bug but, touchwood, fixed in today's updates.

Thursday Nights fun racing / Season XX - Green Hell

As we do 4*12 minute races currently I thought we could do 4 sprints on the Nordschleife.
Cars and dates are still up in the air.  :P

Be great if we had a handicap starting App(hint), but we could try a manual countdown.

Assuming a ten minute lap.
Jeffro at 0 secs
GW at 60s
Roo at 120s
Seanus, Imperious, Scotty et al at 180s
Bueller at 540s

That's me taking the piss, but the idea is sound.

Watch out on this track - there's a black patch on the road surface which is a hole that gives your wheel a big jolt.

Extract THIS to the track's folder, overwriting the original.
Mismatch free, tested.

BMW rejigged and Porsche tweaked. More Damping range and Brake booster.
Porsche is historically accurate with as much real world data as was possible to find.
BMW has been BoPed to have everything possible, identical to the Porsche, but the remaining differences still make it a different car.
