Well, an update on this. Seems to be running very well on the t2 micro instance with 2003 server. Not sure how it would handle many connections, but freejoin isn't complaining or using too much cpu or mem. If I'm doing something on the server, such as installing updates etc.. it will cause cpu errors but apart from that all good.

I expect for a small grid of <10 it would run OK...

I can post a quick guide tonight for anyone that's interested in hosting their own servers at amazon. I think there was Marty? interested in giving it a go and asking for a quick tutorial?

Cool.

I'm sure Wally knows a lot more than me but I'm just going to go over the basics, if there's any errors, I'm sure he can point them out, please do so mate :)

I'm making a screencapture video of the steps to setup the server and will upload to youtube along with some written instructions.

I'm just going to go over creating an AWS account, creating the free tier EC2 instance, getting started with remote desktop, installing the AC server, python and freejoin. Configuring the AC server and Freejoin won't be covered in detail, I'll just fire the server up to see expected output.

It's best to have a read of the AC forums and maybe start a dedicated server game hosting thread on here for people to share configs and maybe config files...

Sounds good.  You might want to hold off on covering Freejoin too much as it could be redundant by tomorrow with Kunos working on a similar solution supposedly meant for release in tomorrow's update.

Thanks Davo, any basic info will be handy as id like to run a server. As Guybrush said freejoin may only have a few more hours of usefulness if all goes to plan tonight.

Video is currently rendering and uploading to YT... writing a small guide now.

I read that tonight is a minor update as there were issues with the netcode, let's hope they can iron it out.

I was just thinking that it might be an idea to try Gentrack1 if tomorrow night is going ahead.  It's a scratch-made track for AC, not a conversion, and is a very fun, fast, country road style track.  I know the guy who made it has put a lot of effort into it just by keeping an eye on the forums.

The other one worth a look is Longford 67(?) - but this has only recently been released so may still need some polish.

Longford in a lotus - either '49 or the 98T  :)
Mind you I'm not sure I'll have time to attend.
