Title: ARSE challenge.
Post by: Wally on October 16, 2014, 06:26:42 PM
Settle down Dick.

The guys at ARSE (AACL) are starting to think about an AACL/XGN inter-league challenge. Put your thinking caps on for format ideas etc. I'm thinking something like our best 12 vs. their best 12, in a combo of our choice and one of their choice. Time to kick some ARSE!

And Ben Cornett counts as XGN.

What does Darren count, though? :)

Shit, I'll probably have to start doing some practice, then...it won't do to rock up and learn the combo on the night.

I'm a member of both, but I'm XGN. ;)
Now, I just need to get into the top 12.... :o

ok, then, we just need to implement a proper balancing scheme, Wally can come up with the methodology...we can still win! :)

here's an example:
we got the cars in order slowest to fastest, we assign one car to each letter of the alphabet in order.
Then we assign the cars to drivers based on their team's name's first letter to the matching car.

.....ok bird what about same cars with a fixed setup? The best hands win!! As simple as that.

I reckon XGN still have some very fast drivers in Guy, YSU and Marty and quite a few consistent drivers to match...... no need to handicap, just a strategist is required. Someone to smash out and Darren and Job is done ;D

Could divide drivers into 2 classes based on known performance and award double points to class 2 drivers. That way you can run a normal race but the winning team is based on aggregate points for each team.

Hey, nice to see you coming out of the woodwork!  I hope you're as fast in AC as you were in iRacing - and GTL!  Then we may still put a winner team together ;)
Fixed setup: can't enforce it  & does not give us any advantage.  Not good :)

I reckon XGN still have some very fast drivers
That's not the point, is it!  Winning must be ensured at all costs! :D
Besides, not sure if you've seen the fast chaps on the other side...they're humming around ARSE like a swarm of green flies!

In picking the top 12 some members may think the selection is based on a popularity contest, I know it wouldn't be but it's best to avoid people thinking that.

To ensure all members have an equal chance the top 12 should be picked after a qualifying session is run, it doesn't have to be on the night of the race and would make more sense if it was run a week before the event.

Also basing the decision on past session results might not be "fair". We don't have all the regular people always making each night and some players might not be good with one car as they are with another.

I know personally I didn't put in much practice on the lotus league and didn't care what result I got but I did put in a crap load of time in the DTMs and group A's.

I like the idea about mixed league racing, the more the better but I do hope all attempts are made to make it not feel elitist.

At the risk of sounding like an ARSE licker - I think it should be a captasins pick team. You guys know the XGN racers the best and also know who you would like to have covering your ARSE.

Was that one too many ARSE   :-[ :-[

So I take it Darren and Ben are both mostly into ARSE, but we have dick and he can deal with them.  ;D He may not have sheer pace but neither will anyone else after they have dealt with him.

Would be a bit of fun I think, not sure why guy wouldnt be competitive unless his girly knee is still giving him troubles.

I did this sort of event in GPL with another league. We had a points table giving 1 point per place. 25 for 1st, 24 for 2nd etc. Highest points for the team won. That way everyone has to pull their weight :)

Darren, do you feel that it is pretty much guaranteed that the current fastest driver will win? In our league Guybrush will win and Marty will come second by .451sec nearly every race left to their own devices - ie not taken out by us or each other ;)

You haven't run many XGN races but I understand that it would be a similar result if you were to participate in one of our races ie You first, Guybrush second, Marty third. If this is not the case then ok. If it is the case then will the challenge races be interesting if the outcome is pretty much predetermined? Your points allocation for the entire field does address that concern to some extent however.

This is mostly academic interest on my part. I am most likely a spectator and my main beef is that AC doesn't support spectating :) - this challenge would be great fun to watch live!

I think this kind of points system works well for a one off team event.  For a championship it's not as good as you only have to have one DNF - disconnect, taken out, etc. - and it's almost impossible to catch up again even if you win every race.  Of course you can drop the worst round, but if you have to miss a round and then have one of the issues above it makes it difficult.

They have the highest probability, but it's certainly not guaranteed. In one of the races myself and team mate Luke McLean qualified a fair bit faster than everyone else. We both crashed out in a ditch 4 corners into the first lap :)

That's not the point though. The idea is to try to make it a true team event by giving everyone in the field something to race for and without putting emphasis on the few quickest drivers.

iRacing's club points work in a similar way. On there you get a point for every member of another club that you finish ahead of.

I can give you an indicator;  they seem to be lining up an old ace team from the LFS times.  These guys used to run Darren-quick, and there's 5-6 of them at least.  Hopefully some of them are rusty.

One is actually running in the Porsche cup, so hopefully he won't have time to participate, or practice much....

Hence my sadness over Darren's capitulation.

ok, last 'tinnitus' skin i do for now. 1st Voltron prototype.
I've thrown out a few Dick skins for you all. Let me know if you want to slip your rig into any of them. Maybe you only like a little bit, like, just the tip. It's all negotiable, We can talk...

I wish you lived near me, when you get  bored instead of 'skining' you could come around and help me paint one of my cars!  ;D

Hello.

I'd like to race in this if possible.  I can make any night generally that isn't a tuesday or a thursday.

Hi Ben, I think it might be a little difficult to move it off those nights to find another night that suits the majority, I'm afraid.

If Ben will be racing for team XGN we should be able to find another nite, if he is driving for the enemy then lets lock in Tuesday nite.  ;D

As much as I'd like to have Ben race for us, I don't want to start scouting around for another night that other true blue XGNers aren't going to be able to make.
