Oh Bird...  :D

But I'm so happy with my new found QOS powers... they might not work if I call them QoS.  :P

Is QoS similar to SNR settings?

I did chuckle after I worked out what you were talking about...

After almost 20years in the industry and I hadn't heard it pronounced like that before...  was a good laugh :)

No.
SNR is about the signal to the ISP - after the router (on the outside) It's not a configurable thing, but certain configurations can affect this value - mostly ISP configs.
btw SNR=Signal to Noise Ratio

QoS is "inside" - you're prioritising certain things (in this case; AC traffic :) )
QoS=Quality of Service (in routers it's about providing the network quality necessary for a service to work well)

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, please, I'm no network engineer :)

Glad it wasnt just me
R1 Very sorry to Shameless.  I hit him in the arse big time  i am blaming the lag issue for that.
Had to bail,, halfway around the track my laptime came up, that's how bad i was lagging
R2 Connected eventually, but the race had started. So dropped out again
Went and plyed AA4 had no issues  :o

Not a network engineer, but very layman's terms prioritising the traffic on your network...

I use it out at my field sites, Video and Voice data top of the pops, file-share or application data you're 2nd on importance, web traffic you get any dregs left over after the other 2 have been through  :P

I can alter the SNR value on my modem.  I believe it tricks the exchange into thinking the quality of your line is better or worse than what it actually is.

Interesting, my modems never let me change that. (after all it's a measured/calculated value).
Where I see the advantage is, that increasing the value should increase the connection reliability as well.  Altho maybe it's still best to leave it alone.  :)

I spent an hour or so fine tuning it.  I've got an extra 150-200 kb/s (whatever that is in mb/s) with no major difference to line reliability.  My max d/l speed is now about 1 MB/s, so a fair % increase.

kb/s=kilobit/s
Mb/s=megabit/s

1Mb/s (or Mbps)= 1000kb/s (or kbps)  (SI) or 1024 if you use old style, nowadays it's supposed to be "kib" (pronounced kibibit) or for kibibyte it's kiB

:D

If you meant to translate it to/from MB/s
1MB/s = 8Mb/s (Mbps) = 8000kb/s

(it's really simple if you remember that 1Byte = 8bits.  That's all to it.  Oh and that kilo=1000 mega=1000*1000 giga=1000*1000*1000 and so on.

What I meant was 150 - 200 kb/s (kilobytes per second) of a total of 1 MB/s (megabyte per second).  But maybe the "B" should have been a "b", and kilobytes should be kilobits?

I knew I can confuse you further! :D

b=bit
B=byte  (this is the bigger as you can see, it's worth 8 of the smaller ones)

I hope you won't pay for that speed increase with disconnections and packet drops.  Normally, there's a reason you've a certain speed set.   But hey, I've tried the speed profile with my ISP (Internode) as well...it didn't work out in the end.  (they can change some stuff at their end if you ask the support, they've 3 profiles I think;  speed/normal/safe)

ja-ha!  So it should be 200 kB/s and 1 MB/s.

I've been running the increased speed for about 9 months or more and have noticed no increase in disconnections.  In fact very few d/c's at all.
