Title: Should I Buy an Ultrawide Monitor? | 2016 Guide

Some things you buy and may not replace if they broke, I would replace mine straight away! I don't like triples, they tend to dominate a room to much, take up a heap of space and I'm not a fan of bezels, with that said that's my opinion.

In theory it's good, but the problem is they are usually very small.  I wouldn't mind a 45" or so ultrawide, but the current ones are just not tall enough.

Isn't there wider monitors that go up to around 32:9?
I thought you were looking at these Bird?

I was, but they're small, as I said.   1024 px high these things are a thin strip in front of you.   No thanks, I need to work on it as well :)  Therefore I went with the 40" UHD (btw I'll probably upgrade to the 43" version for bigger pixels, I recommend that one to anyone buying, unless you've the eyes of an eagle)

Hi People,

I have an AOC LED U3477PQU 34inch Wide.  21/9 screen and cannot fault the monitor. Great resolution and I find it a nice size for AC. I also installed flux which takes out the blue light at night and still looks superb. You can turn it vertical on the axis but found this feature pointless as I can read three pages of word across the screen and great for spreadsheets.

Cheers

Ben

What's the screen height (in cm) of that one, if I may ask?

Edit:
But, you see, that's what I just don't get, why the 34" is the magical barrier?  I'd buy one if they had a 43"-ish one.

Edit:
Mind you, this one has a nicer res at 1440px vertical.  When I was looking they've all stopped at 1024px.

Why would you want to sit 3 foot away from a 43" monitor lol.

You could get a good suntan by sitting only 3 foot away from all that radiation :D

Glen, where did the 3 foot come from?
Btw I am sitting about 70cm from the screen.  It's the same as sitting 70cm from a 24".  Just more screen real estate.

Btw Gratulin these screens give out no radiation.  Only light.  CRT screens were the ones you probably thinking of?

Flat, yes.

If you call light radiation (which it is) then yes, it emits radiation.  Otherwise, as far as I know it does not.  But I'm happy to listen to evidence to the contrary.

No discussion of the 32:9 monitors that are *meant* to be coming out?

For me, these would be the sweet spot.

http://www.pcworld.com/article/3026371/consumer-electronics/crazy-ultrawide-displays-from-samsung-and-lg-stretch-to-epic-lengths.html

The question is whether 32:9 would be wide enough.  Do you need the most rearward half of each outside screen in a triple setup?

I reckon it's wide enough, but personal preferences may vary.  With 3x24's I've never used the outer half of the side screens, they were too far off - but they were great for peripheral vision.  So it really depends on the physical size and curve as well.

These seem pretty decent size!

Btw the article is half a year old, those monitors should be coming out anyday, if not already out.  Any fresher news on them?

Nope.  I'm wondering whether they are still planning to release them,.

Would be a shame if they were cancelled.   Although someone else will do it next.  But that maybe a few years off.
