Title: S20 BMW M235i Racing Sign Up Thread
Post by: Wally on December 08, 2017, 09:46:25 PM
Car: BMW M235i Racing

Round Format
Single make sprints (no compulsory pit stops).
3 sprints:
Damage Penalty
Every impact your car has (during the race only) will get a little bit of restrictor for the next race, and will remain for the rest of the round (reset to 0 at the start of the next round). This is to represent your team not being able to fix your car to 100% between races. It will only be mild - a sliding scale of restrictor from 0% to 10% for impacts between 30 kph and 100 kph (capped at 10% for impacts at higher speeds). Most impacts are between 20 and 30 kph. This would be for car to car impacts (for both cars) and also impacts with barriers. This will add more tension to the racing and may make people be a little more cautious i.e. there are consequences for hitting things with your car.

Track List
I've chosen some of the lesser used tracks for Tuesdays, including the excellent new mod, Road Atlanta - a great circuit full of blind crests, for a challenge. Highlands and Thruxton are both high-speed circuits.

Dec 19: Tor Poznan (http://www.racedepartment.com/downloads/tor-pozna%C5%84.6118/) (3 x 12 laps)
Dec 26: bye (Christmas fun run)
Jan 2: Oulton Park - International - No Chicane (https://actrackrebootproject.wixsite.com/ac-track-re-boot/oulton-park) (3 x 12 laps)
Jan 9: Thruxton (http://www.racedepartment.com/downloads/thruxton.6192/) + pit mod (https://drive.google.com /open?id=1y9QW7LW4x5PZgk5jjdLtA5j0Jsjhk4c0)  (3 x 14 laps)
Jan 16: Road Atlanta (http://www.racedepartment.com/downloads/road-atlanta-2016.18293) (3 x 12 laps)
Jan 23: Highlands + pit mod (https://drive.google.com/open?id=1OOZaLEhL8h7GspLDW2TtFWAfI9cIPnQ8) (3 x 7 laps)
Jan 30: Okayama (http://www.racedepartment.com/downloads/okayama-international-circuit.15846/) (3 x 12 laps)
Feb 6: Laguna Seca + pit mod (https://drive.google.com/file/d/1HxAbrUr9TUTcZKyzgGoSJ85ry5reUc8g/view) (3 x 12 laps)

Points
34,31,28,25,23,21,19...1
1 point bonus for pole position, 1 point bonus for fastest race lap
Must complete 75% of the race laps to be classified a finisher.

Just gave it a quick drive. Fantastic track. View of elevation changes are most realist I've seen.

Road Atlanta has had an update overnight:

Hey Everyone
50 Pitboxes Added
Fixed Bridge Marker Texture
Fixed Holes off track at turn 2,3,4
Fixed A couple of textures/shader issues
Joined Wall gap straight at 2 (Thanks Andreas Knöpke;))
I will update the other major layout issues once i have the correct lidar data, this is just a small update for now

 ;)

Hey Wally, your probably already set on tracks but after watching the BTCC today I went looking for and found this
Oulton Park - https://actrackrebootproject.wixsite.com/ac-track-re-boot/oulton-park (https://actrackrebootproject.wixsite.com/ac-track-re-boot/oulton-park)
Fast, flowing and undulating circuit which I recall we used a bit in the Rf days . . . food for thought!

Sorry for the really late notice but I'm still having sporadic connection issues, so I think it'd be better to opt out for this season until everything has been resolved, hopefully this gives somebody else the opportunity to do a whole season.
Talk soon,

No worries DC. I can't say I've ever seen issues racing nearby you. Is the issue more that you suffer from random disconnections altogether?

Yes, I have ADSL2+ so my Ping is always okay, but just in the last couple of weeks I've been experiencing disconnects constantly. First World Problems I know, but it's a shame I'll miss out on the season.

I wonder if you can change to a more conservative ADSL speed profile with your ISP? I.e. sacrifice a little speed for greater stability.

My ADSL2+ has been giving me some issues the past week or two. Seeing ping spikes in game and also general slow and shittyness.

I have also had a lot of disconnect issues recently which coincided with nbn going live in the area (fttn)
Rock solid connection up to that point. I changed all the adsl filters and it seems to have fixed it, there was possibly extra noise on the line from nbn causing drop outs. Maybe worth testing for you

Interesting there is so many internet issues at the moment, I also noticed my 50/20 FTTP connection had dropped to 6mbs yesterday. However now it is back up to the highest DL and UL speeds I have ever had, very close to the 50/20 I have been paying for for nearly 3 years. I think a lot of ISPs are running scared about refunds from lower than sold speeds, lets hope so anyway. These problems may only be happening as they are doing line upgrades.

I am with iinet in Coffs Harbour the first place in Australia to get the NBN ,I also have had intermittent drop outs since day one, I am in a block of 16 units, bottom line is it has not been as reliable as ADSL2+  I had in Canberra :(  I think iinet is shit but have no choice as I will not use Telstra.

Telstra   fixed wireless,  I used to get close to max no problem, but not anymore, congestion I guess.
Actually waiting to hear from them today, they have been monitoring the connection last few days.

Have seen a few fixes wireless connections. Speed can be good but packet loss can be a killer.
If iiNet struggle doubt Telstra will do better, just more annoying customer support. I’ve got 3 iiNet connections in the office all of which 100/40 and never see any slow down, all fttp. Also one 100/100 and also no slow down. Probably as they are used in business hours and not when everyone is hammering Netflix.

I think I got lucky with my NBN connection.

The top tier 100 MB plan was disconnected and I only pay 79.95 a month, unlimited data. I got 55 MB from their servers but I get 81 MB from Steam which is awesome, but Telstra only wanted to know the info about their servers so I didn't say anything.
My pings are roughly half what they used to be on DSL.

Not to brag but I'm only paying $20 more for my Internode unlimited, getting 94/38 mbps and pings of 4ms fairly consistently.  Added bonus is the professional & helpful support.

Working in IT I can safely say the NBN is a joke. Almost as bad as Trump being president.
If you get fibre to the home, you are lucky, fibre to the node is mostly crap, stuck on satellite then enjoy the 800ms ping (that’s about mimum) if it’s coaxial then probably doesn’t work properly and has now been paused. Fibre to the curb should be ok but then no matter how it connects they will all have contention issues anyway. NBN makes me quiet angry, soo much money wasted and inevitably will be mostly scrapped to be replaced with all fibre eventually which is what it should have been from the start

And then there's also 5g coming with even more speed, although how economical that will be is another question.

Latency and packet loss will still be an issue I think. Wireless internet just never has a steady ping
