Title: Massive Ping Delays
Post by: GymnasticHippo on February 15, 2018, 11:19:03 PM
Hey lads,

Hoping to ask for some advice. I noticed it once a little while back but to be honest haven't play MP games for quite some time so it's probably been consistent over teh past couple of months.

Turns out my ping is going nuts, just tried to jump onto the red bull ring server and it was sitting at 1700MS (what the f*#$)

I'm running a wired connection to my modem/router, adsl2+
speedtest puts me http://www.speedtest.net/result/7060521676
if i run a web based ping test I get really random results...

I thought it may ahve been my a/v firewall so i turned it off temporarily. made no difference.

any pointers on where to go investigating?

I'd check for anything running in the background. Windows updates? Other program's updates? Maybe do a full virus/malware scan in case there's something on your PC sending out data.

Uploads can make it spike quite hard. Any kind of cloud sync like Dropbox or onedrive or your phone uploading data to the cloud could cause high pings

The first thing to do would be what's been suggested but more brutal.

First isolate yourself and everyone else by kicking everyone off the network and disconnecting the WiFi. Then run some tests to ensure it's not your PC. Once you know it's not yours you can go blame whoever you suspect  :D

Bit late but... http://www.resplendence.com/latencymon could help you find the problem, a rouge driver or piece of software conflicting one another or with windows (or vice versa), update your drivers particularly audio/network, update windows, update your software and try not to use (if possible) software that tries to control everything like corsair link, asus (pretty much everything lol), nzxt cam, rgb software and many more. These programs tend to conflict with one another, try to use only one if you really need it and usually you can get away with disabling them from start up in task manager (open them when you need them, or just uninstall them). Also sometimes multiple types of system monitoring programs will do it too, try using one that monitors everything (hwinfo64) instead of multiple independent programs. Good luck, hope you get back on the track  :)
