When you have a disability you learn to be adaptable or you miss out. And I don't give up too easily. I can come across as a big negative but I still persist through it and sometimes do quite well, sometimes I don't.  But really not much different than anyone else.

I used to be a hard man to pass on some of the tighter circuits, that's slowly coming back to me as I get better at setting up the car in Assetto for the joystick. It's definitely a tad harder than it was in GTL/GTR2.

Yeah I agree the praga did have some close packs, but the majority of the replay showed the top 3 was the only battle lasting more than a few laps. I know after my pit i was alone for the rest of the race until the last 2 laps, but was no battle and yeah that happens, I have no doubt my car setup and tyre issues played a major part in that. I did try and capture what I could, but for a good 1/4 of that race nothing actually happened worth recording.  That's not to say it was a bad race, I'd like to try the pragas on a different style of track.

I'll give the f138 a go and maybe after a few races I'll get used to it. as I said it's not something I'm used to driving and it's not impossible with a joystick.  I'm going to soften the rear and see if that helps me put my foot down better out of corners where I know I'm losing time.  As for close racing, I'll wait and see how it pans out after the first handful of laps and a race or 2.

I'd prefer the praga over the f138, but I with the praga, anyone who generally came off and kept it under control was back on and at race pace so quick that most of the time it made no difference to the car behind being able to catch or pass them.

THe f138 I can see people coming off and because these cars are so quick they will lose several positions. If they are fast enough they will catch up and pass for positions.  I can't get to race pace and im not used to these cars at all, I'm stuck on 1:25 - 1:26 which is massively off pace and I really don't want to spend hours practising with it.  I will see how I go race wise, but it just doesn't fit with me for close enjoyable racing, but that's just me. I'm finding all the fast cars like this and the 919, 962c, while they are fun to drive, to be a spaced out races with most of the field hotlapping on their own rather than a decent amount of passing after the first handful of laps in a race.

Any reason you don't use a wheel?

physical disability unfortunately does not allow me to, fused hips, fused spine and im stuck leaning forward. I did try a G25 years ago when I had more movement. I was 2 second slower with it over joystick because I couldnt right or left foot brake or clutch, I just wasn't stable.  I have major movement loss since the years of GTL and GTR2. You will see in the video how I'm stuck in position to use the joystick next week.

the new is amazing, they way they have styled the unit and maintained the functionality. It looks like something crossed between "Alien" and a scorpion!
I have one of your older types, I tried using it in a flying sim, but was useless, never thought to drive a sim with it, I am impressed with your skill.
Looks like your going to be that bit harder to beat in the new year.

I've had a saitek cyborg before, not this version. I ended up breaking the plastic ring at the base where the stick goes into the base due to the amount of force I give it wil racing lol.. so they don't last too long with me :)  Saiteks are a lil better made than the dogitechs.

Once I can come to terms with the tyre temps and driving cars with different cambers and still making the corners I should improve and be a lil more competitive.  It's been a long time since I really did any serious racing ( not since GTR2).  When I get the new joystick I'll film how I have to drive so you guys get an idea what it's like compared to your wheels.

Race Videos / Praga R1 @ VIR North Course - 20 lap race - 27th Dec 2016
« on: January 01, 2017, 09:24:41 PM »
Finally some cooler weather and some actual sleep so was up to making the video of the final race with the praga. Just a simple quick one. Will resume a better format once the season begins.

Enjoy in 1080p@60fps

I just tried the 911 RSR 3.0 and was withing a tenth of my time in the Cobra, this also being an old car probably fits better with the Thursdays spirit. There may be another of the older cars that could be close to these two cars, I will test a couple more and see if I can find some that match up ok.

BMW E30 Grp A ?

Which joystick?

The Saitek Cyborg and it should be here hopefully monday or tuesday.

currently using the Logitech extreme 3d pro and it's just loose in the center now, so the steering in game has a spaz and im driving what feels like a damaged car that wants to drive to the right.

Be aware of the chicane at the end of the lap before the start/finish straight. If you go off the track to the left you fall into a hole and have to force quit the game. Did it a few times learning the track and twice again today when pushing it.

I can see a few quitting then..

incorrect, only you

Lucky, I hate invisible holes/walls.  After a week of 4hrs per night of sleep I wasn't up to racing, had too many other things to deal with so didn't want to jeopardise anyones race with a careless mistake. Hope to get my new joystick Monday and then I won't have to fight the steering to keep the car on the track as it currently decides to steer to the left or right on its own randomly.

Australian Assetto Corsa League, Tuesday nights / Re: Season 15 Skins
« on: December 28, 2016, 12:11:55 AM »
I havent seen a full f138 f1 season skin pack, I would probably make one if I was to actually run in the season but as I wont make most of it its not really a workload Im likely to take on.

I did find this multi colour skin pack which will at least add some variety to the field along with the historic ferrari skins also posted earlier.

this the same one? or different?: http://www.drivingitalia.net/forum/index.php?app=downloads&showfile=8033

Maybe with more people racing and a host of different tracks it will improve.

The fields are fairly small atm with the time of year and mid season runs lucky to get half a regular field most of the time. Once the season starts grids should be up around 24 per race again but with a few new guys here especially in these mid season runs its possible we will get even more during the season even though I will miss most of it. This should add more depth to the field at all parts of the pack as there are a few front runners away and also some mid pack guys will be coming back so more battles through the field will be going on.

Track wise I think this one would have been hard to pass in any car but it was actually fun to lap in it but the layout just wont lend itself to easy passing unless an error is made by the car ahead.

I agree, I think tracks like magione, mugello, zandvoort, vallelunga classic etc these cars would be more fun and yes with more on track.

Thanks Marty,  will get the video underway over the next few days should have it released.

As much as I like the car, I felt a tad lonely for most of all 3 races, maybe it was just me. I did have some small battles for the opening laps but I was either too fast or too slow to keep up or be near a group of cars. The sound of the springs was keeping me going..   I think ballast imo is better than pitstop delay, but if if it hasn't been tried before and needs to be tested in a season then so be it.

On the plus side the car is relatively easy for me to drive given the joystick and I did get down to the 1:25s but lapped mostly in the low 1:26s.  Maybe with more people racing and a host of different tracks it will improve.   I struggle for grip on 1x tyre wear and 1.5x definitely made it harder for me to maintain grip, but as Marty pointed out it may be a tyre pressure issue, and it is an area I need to work on.

I will still prefer the praga r1 over the f138 for a season.

Australian Assetto Corsa League, Tuesday nights / Re: Future Season Ideas

It's good that AC supports server side naming,  I normally race as GzeroD on any given server but on the managed XGN servers I appear as Seanus. This is great as I can work on the (in)famous reputation of my online persona in public but still use a human friendly name for my league appearances without having to remember to edit my ingame nickname.
It would be cool (IMHO) if others could follow this scheme, for example only;

XGN Wally Masterson = Wally (we known you're XGN already)
shameless_1 = Shameless (just cleaner looking) or Des
etc etc

This would also help keep the replays cleaner looking when the driver's names are showing.

Mostly just use what you would like to be called over TeamSpeak, You can't pronounce GzeroD(G0D perhaps) so I use Seanus.
Anyway it not a huge concern as we all learn each others name eventually, although it took me a month to realise grat and Gratualin were different people!

It's "Dez" actually ;) I think Bruce may have been a tad drunk ;) when he called me Des.  I've had many nicks over the years, Shameless is usually taken so it's either ShamelessOne or Shameless_1. I have no issues being Dez again though.  My youtube nick is OnlyShameless.   My shameless nick came about from the song by Garth Brooks - Shameless.  years ago.
