We thought about that, but we do not love the place too much... i.e., we would probably want to move in the next 1 or 2 years anyway.

lol I wish, even though open wheelers are my fave to drive I seem to do poorly in them, probably age and a reflex thing :)  I can never get the open wheelers setup how I like and Matthew, kcender, Grat , russg, Jeremy, Matthews cousin, the list goes on are all on the top of their game right now, but it is nice to have a car I feel motivated to drive :)

No, everyone can choose what they want.

I was hoping/thinking we wouldn't need to choose a car, apart from asking one to be assigned us for a custom skin.
Car differences are yet to be fully fleshed out in the heat of racing and some cars may prove unworthy or indeed too good for say the more elite drivers to be using whilst others struggle with lesser cars.

But anyway I'm sure anyone dissatisfied with their car choice can feel free to change it.

For mine, March 751/3
I'll need to know people's specific car choices so I can assign enough of each type on the grid.
I would prefer if people stayed in the same car, but if people want to change, they can.

I thought I'd post my lap times and thoughts for anyone that hasn't done much testing. I've only tested these because I wanted to drive something that most others wouldn't eg. Lotus. Out of those tested the Tyrell feels to be one of the more stable cars (for me) followed by Williams and Shadow. Fittipaldi one of the worst, the others were ok but need some tuning. Not fast times but still fairly close and with more testing and tuning I might get to shave another .5 off (and still be a good 2 seconds off Phil and Kcender). Any way I hope it helps people that aren't that keen on these cars all together.

To be honest, I just randomly jumped in the Surtees and thought it felt OK to drive. I couldn't be arsed testing so many different cars.

I don't really remember driving that one, I didn't drive it long and probably didn't even attempt a set up. My post was just to say that they're all fairly similar and with some time put in to testing and set up everyone should get reasonably stable and fast. You know when you pick one, then always question it the rest of the time lol. I'm also not saying go get the tyrrell, mainly to say from my testing, avoid the fittipaldi (although someone could make something of it).

Hi Wally, seeing as my fps rate wasn't too bad in the '75's at Imola could you change me from a Reserve to a Full-time also ran/back marker.

When do we need to make a decision on car choice?

Thanks

So many cars. I don't have time for testing them all. I tried the Hesketh and Tyrrell before the test race and was going to go with the Hesketh, but when I joined there was no Hesketh or Tyrrell available so I just plonked my arse in a Surtees and went for it.
I'll try to make a final decision over the weekend.

On a Tuesday, yeah.
I normally qualify in the mid to low teens.
Race results are better but that's due to consistency, not speed. ;)

So I'll keep my Brabham. 8)

The Lotus doesn't work with the latest patch installed. I joined the server and got a blank screen. Then I tried in single offline mode and got the same thing.

I re-downloaded the Base and the patch.
Deleted all cars.
Installed the base set, and it works fine offline.
Installed the patch and it doesn't work ...

Are you guys using content manager, drag files from your downloads and drop it into content manager, then click on the hamburger menu icon (top right, 3 lines) and install. It is handy, don't need to worry about unzipping or were they go, it does it all for you

It's mismatch free, but one of the changes included pit stop times so if you don't keep up to date your only harming your own performance.
I think what I'll do after the first round is make some data.acds for each car (with CM) and upload that as a patch as well as onto the server so we do start to get mismatches, as this will quickly tell people if they have the up to date car. Otherwise the inattentive may be disadvantaged by not having the latest change, say for pitstop times.

Ok. I can do the encrypting and make a so called final patch after Tuesday's round. This round will act as a test for everything so hopefully any mistakes or quirks should be worked out and the mod can be locked down.  :D
Great, thanks.

I've tested it but I can't possibly cover all 17 cars comprehensibly so please test on and offline with your car of choice.

Changes:

Tyres take 18 secs and that is exactly 30 litres of fuel. Damage should be quicker than that. Remember the gearbox is not repaired, use ctrl+g to use auto if you blow your gearbox.
The more powerful cars do use more fuel.
The 312T's 200l tank is now 120l, the same as all the others.
Excellent, thanks Seanus. I'll put the files on the practice server tonight and we can check for mismatches.
