S16R3: Monza Pre-Race Chat - APRIL 4
« on: March 26, 2017, 02:38:59 PM »
It's time to take the Porsches to the high speeds and long straights of Monza. World record lap times are in the 1:50's.
Note this race is on APRIL 4.

2 x 16 lap sprints (no pit stops).
You will need the OSRW PIT MOD installed in the track.

Weather Forecast (long range outlook is 27 and clear)

Jimmy and Slow As will have 40 kg penalty ballast (since they didn't race last round where the ballast applied from).

It's RACE DAY people. It's time to get excited about unloading the Porsches off the truck at the classic circuit of Monza, to do battle! How low do you dare to take your rear wing???

Rear wing is more for aero balance and stability in this so go too low and your too slow.  ;)

The video posted above is a good one but does he pass a Prada at the start? Key tip to notice from the video is Ascari enter in 3rd but short shift up to 4th before the right hander to avoid losing the rear too much and scrubbing speed.

Not sure why Phils hates Porsche's so much, these are great little race cars that provide very close racing. You just need to drive in a way to keep the rear in check, Monza is a simple layout on paper but has very tricky technical corners followed by long straights. Outbraking yourself anywhere is bound to lose massive amounts of time but you need to be fairly close to the limit as you give up some being too careful also. Its a great circuit to learn how best to gain exit speed and its the first track you can actually pass in these cars relatively easily, stay close enough to the car ahead you will get a good draft to put you into position for a move into the next corner.

I found its actually pretty easy to crash here even though the track feels "simple", via just getting a bit unsettled by kerbs here and there and having the rear step out.

Well, that's easy then; we race at midday and avoid shadows! :D

I hope I do better tonight than last night. I'd been doing quite well in practice up until yesterday. Perhaps karma for making fun of Mael the night before  ;D

@Wally, I'd like to race tonight if that is ok? I did a 16 lap stint over the weekend left foot braking but may not last the second race. Will that be a problem? Fully understand if you don't have time to add my GUID back into the server however. Thanks.

I will add you. Race as much as you can - that's fine.  Please get the latest PLP app to be on the same page as everyone else. Welcome back :)
