Cars sorted by average lap times
« on: March 21, 2015, 05:48:16 PM »
Courtesy of the RSR rank, I have sorted all the AC cars by relative performance, so you can see what car matches up with what. The number for each car below is the average lap time, in seconds, averaged across
Spa, Mugello, Imola, Silverstone, Nurburgring GP, Vallelunga, Monza and Magione. The lap time taken is the average of all lap times at a track from the world record to 5% slower e.g. if the world record was 100 seconds, lap times from 1:40 to 1:45 (105 seconds).

This is the AC 1.1+ car rank (where 1.000 is the fastest time).

Im pretty sure some cars have got slower since v1.1 so its always a bit tricky using RSR times. For example the e30 DTM has got about 3 seconds per lap slower then earlier builds likely to balance the dtm series. Other cars get changed on some updates but its cool to have this list as a ballpark to see what can likely be raced together.

Good point, Marty. I've rejigged the list to only take AC 1.1+ lap times into account. There's still quite a few car/track combos with no lap times in 1.1 yet, so I'll update this list over time as we get more laps.

98T full boost no damage is a very different beast, even with damage you can run full boost for a couple laps on most tracks but need to turn it down to last any proper distance. In a race between the 2 I think the exos would do better as you can always run it a full power just limited by tyre life and fuel loads which will also effect the 98T.

If you can get the RSR guys to include it in their rank, we're good to go!

Just because I'm interested in the maths behind it Wally, what is the advantage of measuring the pace based on what I assume is some sort of deviation from a standardised value vs. absolute lap time?

This list is quite out of date.

I'm averaging the top 5% of times for a combo. I reckon that's more representative of what the average, skilled driver can do in the car. It filters out all the ”non-serious” lap times, and doesn't put too much emphasis on what the aliens can do. My point behind this list is to sort the cars by the difference that an average driver can expect to see.

If you ever update this Wally (aka must be done within 30 minutes ;) it would be interesting to see top 5% time and also the absolute top time. I wonder how much the list would actually change.

For me I still see top times as the cars potential and likely more usefull but still the less used combos will throw data off a bit. That doesnt matter if using top time or 5% time its quite often a bit more off the potential when only a few laps have been set.

It is more up to date on the AC forum thread.

http://www.assettocorsa.net/forum/index.php?threads/car-time-ranking.22389/

And even more up to date on my laptop.

Just relying on the top time can't be as representative of ”real world” potential (by which I mean say, us average league racers), as the sample size is vastly smaller. Some of the popular cars have over a thousand laps in the top 5%.

I think the way Wally does it is accurate which we have seen when pitting different cars against each other.

Just out of curiosity, what happens Wally when you use data that lies at 2 standard deviations from the average, as opposed to 3?  I'm wondering whether that would be more representative of the regular user while still getting the most out of the car?

What standard deviation? I don't use that anywhere.

Oh, I assumed you were using variance and standard deviation calculations for most things, eg. 68% for consistency = 1 Standard deviation, 95% = 3 SD.  >68%<95% = 2 SD.

There's a standard kind of deviant? :o
