Humble racing sale
I know most of us are well packed on the sim front, but there's an interesting additional opportunity here; hardware!

Namely; coupons for thurstmaster wheels.

I might even bite ;)   My old wheel has given up a while ago - I'm just wondering which of those wheels is a good one for some casual fun?

News / Forum upgrade
« on: October 17, 2020, 05:42:48 PM »
Gents I've upgraded the forum to the latest.

However some of the mods were quite out of date so they could not be reinstalled.

One of these things it seems was the youtube tags - so just put your youtube link into the post and it should be replaced.   One thing; the shorthand url (youtu.be) does not work with a start time, so for that you need to use the full url format.

The recent outages it seems were caused by bots/crawlers overloading the server, hopefully the upgrade helps with that.

Hardware & Reviews / Fanatec pedal
« on: September 24, 2018, 10:38:17 AM »
Hey guys,  I wanted to pick up my wheel a bit a while ago and found my pedals not working.

Fanatec CSR (advanced german engineering - and chinese porduction...)

I'm wondering if you guys have any insight how could it be fixed - or if.  I'm not keen on buying another fanatec anything,  but the wheel is still working.   Kind of a funny situ.

General Discussion / Just to piss you poofters off

Ok, not just that.  But mostly :D
http://www.speedtest.net/result/7022117736

I'm testing Aussie Broadband - they've a standing free month offer - and importantly, a 150/100 plan - the above result is as tested at 4:30pm friday here on said connection.

Interesting to note that the ping isn't that shiny.  My usual ping (as some of you know) is 3-4ms on my current Internode connection.

( But then I can d/l at ~15MB/s from steam and/or Amazon s3 - and upload at blistering speeds, too, which is pretty handy for me for work )

Edit: attached the steam test

News / Classic car auction at the Gosford Car Museum
« on: October 20, 2017, 02:42:20 PM »
These cars can be seen in the museum btw, and they are AWESOME!  That Countach is something I'd definitely buy if I had the dough.

I'm friggen going, wondering if anyone else is interested?
More info: https://classiccars.pickles.com.au/

I'm not buying, mind you, just interested if they'll really sell and at what prices.

See all the cars here :

News / Gosford car museum
« on: October 30, 2016, 04:30:45 PM »

I've just been there, and I'd like to say, I was very impressed.

If you haven't see a LaFerrari, an Enzo, a Testarossa, or maybe a Lamborghini Countach or a Diablo in real life, or maybe interested in a 40's or 50's Rolls Royce Phantom, you should head over there.  I've even seen a DeTomaso Pantera, and an XJ220 as well :)
(funnily they had eastern block oldies, too, some familiar Skoda, Traband, Lada, Polski, Volga and even a couple of Tatra models were there)

The collection is huge.  They've hundreds upon hundreds of cars, including some that are for sale (like an R32 Skyline, a Ferrari 360, a couple of E-types...) at the back.

It's been something I meant to do for a while, but I wanted to go with a mate who just had a baby so it was just delayed and delayed...but now I'm thinking I should go back again, the 2 hours was barely enough to gawk myself out.
One negative is that it's very much like a museum, you can't go really up close and in some cases this means you can't easily see the car from all angles.  Also it'd be great to be able to open the bonnet of a few of them :)
Another negative is that it'd be good to see a bit more on some cars - often it's just a brand & model name.  Sometimes it's specs as well, and sometimes (the best) there's some history included.

General Discussion / My track day vids

In case anyone interested...

Here's my very first lap, ever :)

And the fastest lap:

Sadly the throttle & rpm data are somewhat off.

I did a bit of write-up and discussion ongoing on the ARSE forums, if anyone is interested.

General Discussion / My dear Mitsu 380 is going up for sale
« on: April 10, 2016, 08:00:36 PM »
Gents, if anyone is interested - or knows anyone...
My trusty red 2007 380 SX is up for sale as of now, 84k on the odo.

This is the car, old pic but it gives you an idea. The windows are heavily tinted.

Location is central coast.

I thought I'll put it up here and on the ARSE forums first, as it's a good car, it'd be good to go to some nice new owner.
I'll take some pics and in a couple of days I'll put it up on commercial sites.

Forum members get discount on the price. :)

The only flaw is that the front bumper does not look very nice.  It will need a re-spray to restore its glory, altho from 4-5m away it's ok.
Otherwise it has never missed a beat.

Reason...yeah, well, this:

:D

General Discussion / Monitors for racers !
« on: January 27, 2016, 09:08:51 AM »
I think these guys heard our pleas!  Ultra-wide monitor formats are coming:
Samsung, LG going ultrawide with upcoming 32:9 and 2.4 : 1 displays

Most of the current monitors are 16:9  ( ~ 1.7 : 1 )

I think I'll snatch the 49" version when it comes out ;)
I also hope it's curved, otherwise it'll be useless.
