Continuing my somewhat grumpy tone - why the hell are cars riding the curbs on cold tires on lap 1 T3?

For some reason these lyrics pop into my head

♫ Highway to the Danger Zone
Ride into the Danger Zone ♫

Re ballast, the only analysis I need is these lap times from qual/race 2:

Schmittez1:33.9120

Grubbet1:34.9914
StanDaam1:35.15570
Gratulin1:35.30632

About 2 seconds separating a mixed field of 19 aliens and cowboys. 'Nuff said. And Guybrush isn't 'hard done by'... with 167kg, he was still faster than more than half the field!

i think the average lap time the ballast works around needs to be a few tenths lower as it seems every time a few of us heavies get close to the front we get hit harder to be put back too about 10th
do you even motorsports?

Continuing my somewhat grumpy tone - why the hell are cars riding the curbs on cold tires on lap 1 T3?

Of the 3 major incidents at t3 only the first one in race 2 was on lap 1. The other in that race was lap 2 and the race 1 incident there was lap 4.

Also tyres are pretty warm as we are racing with tyre warmers.  ;)

Because:

1. I passed on the same curb on pretty much the same way the previous 30 times I did an exit lap with tyres on similar temps;
2. most of us followed a similar line---although the others managed to control the situation better;
3. we were quite crowded through t2 and my line into t3 was definitely not optimal;
4. I was very focused on not hitting the guy ahead and not moving in any unexpected way for the guy behind and probably did not notice that my rear left was a tad more to the left than I would normally do.

You are free to watch the reply and see whether I was prudent, careful, and deliberately preferring to let people pass than fight for position through t1 to t3 yourself. I think I was, at least in the range of what is reasonable.

I fully admit it was my mistake and I take all the blame, but I find it a bit over-polemic to focus on a honest, simple driving mistake. Sometimes I crash with people ahead of me who got a bit loose or slowed down strangely in a corner. It is normal and it is my fault if I hit them. Sometimes people spin, sometimes people take a slightly more aggressive line. I am racing: this happens and it is all good. In this season I have been starting from the back quite a few times and had to slowly dodge more than a few spun cars in the first few turns. I guessed it is normal and there are yellow flags to tell me. In race 1 last night I got my front wing damaged in the silliest of contacts with Bacchulum (checking the replay from both in-car replays, it looks as both of us thought we were going just straight ahead, but something with the white lines at Mugello was probably misleading us and we ended up converging to the same point). I got hit a few times from behind without particular reasons. But hey: all these things happen when racing on cars that are quite hard to handle for most of us. Sometime we get a bit grumpy about it (I defintitely did :)) but it is part of the risk and the fun of driving close to each other. Yes: I am really sorry for the poor Jeremy who just happened to be there when I lost it. But other than that, I do not feel I have done something so terrible this time.

Hi Wally: I was only offering a possibility in case you wanted to see some more detailed analyses. As I have said many times: I trust your judgement and experience with this stuff. :)

Don't mind me - I was in struggle street this week - still not comfortable after only a couple of rounds.

However, love driving these cars but very stressful in traffic.

i think the average lap time the ballast works around needs to be a few tenths lower as it seems every time a few of us heavies get close to the front we get hit harder to be put back too about 10th
With about 20 racers, the system is trying to make everyone come 10th ;)
Slow down the faster, speed up the slower, aiming for the middle to compress the field.

Yeah it seems to be working fairly well, just i see a few guys seem to stay well ahead. Eg Schmittez done a 33.9 but doesnt have ballast, shouldnt he get some weight? unless 33.9 is the target lap then shouldnt i lose a few kg lol? i dunno just something i noticed otherwise its fine by me.
do you even motorsports?

Schmittez got 20kg for his 33.9, which was 0.78 faster than the average. You got 5kg for being 0.21 fastest than the average.

It seems ballast has really evened out 80% of the midfield. You can tell by race 1 qualy times where generally the majority of the field is within 1 second, with only a couple ahead and at the back that are a fraction off this pace.
