Hah yeah fo sho. Could be why the V2 recently dropped in price. At the moment anything direct drive seems very custom, so wouldn't come with warranties etc, and even those that do aren't offered in Aus. Maybe I should start saving again now...  :o

All depends on how much their DD base would be ;D

Yeah I'd been keen, though unsure if I'll need to reinforce the rig a bit to handle DD. Also interesting with the sold rims it won't run at full torque as they can't take it  ;D

Can your arms take it!!

One thing about this is that it is positioned above the current wheel base in terms of performance and price. I was hoping that it would also scale down to the elite level of wheel bases. This would give a lower torque wheel base with the benefits of the linearity etc of a DD wheel base. Making an electric motor work at lower RPM must be expensive? Otherwise removing all the belts and gears from a current wheel base should lower the cost don't you think?

I like your thinking Gratulin. I guess we will see. As for my arms no idea... had been getting shoulder pain recently with the current wheel so have shifted the seat back a click and seems better.

From the email;
We’ve tried to make participation as simple as possible. Firstly, you’ll need to log into your Fanatec account on our site. When the auction system is up and running, you’ll see an ‘Enter Auction Page’ button on the DD1 product page, which will take you to a secure bidding area that is hosted on Amazon’s servers and has been thoroughly tested for stability.

After that, you can click to bid as many times as you wish. Each click automatically increases the price by a fixed increment of 10 AUD. After every new bid is placed, a 90-second timer will reset. If there are no new bids after the timer reaches zero, the auction will complete, and the winner will receive payment instructions via email. After this, a new auction will begin immediately at 1 AUD.

Auction units are limited to one per customer. Auctions will continue to run, one at a time, until further notice. The system will prevent bids from going above the retail price. We will also ensure that several units are sold under 1500 AUD, and you’ll be able to see the previous winning bid values.

This will guarantee that many customers will secure a pre-order well below the retail price. These units genuinely have no reserve, so bid carefully!

I'll be on night shift so I'll probably miss it, but If I get chance I was thinking to try between 500-1000

First one has sold for $1481, looks like I was dreaming when I though I may get one cheapish

Out of about 17? Most were between 1400-1500, a few between 400-800, with a couple of lucky ones at a $1. I under estimated the demand for near retail prices, a discount is still a discount though. I connected to the flaky wifi in the pit at work and with the traffic at their end I had no chance.

Given what fanatec said in the email, they must have manually ended a few auctions early.
