Assetto Corsa / Re: Race start using clutch...when to engage gear etc.
« on: November 22, 2018, 12:59:33 PM »
I've never rolled forward and I never use the brake on the start. I just have my clutch in and get my revs up and when the lights go out then I drop the clutch. Depends on the car, some cars I ride the clutch a bit but I certainly never use the brake.

I got on early in the practice session and tried to make a setup. Turned out to do well for me.

Never expected to get a podium here, not really a track I ever do well at.

For those that are interested, I will share what I did to the Mazda.
I ended up changing gearing, aero and tyre pressures. Everything else I left alone, I probably could of got something better working but that would of cost too much time as I tend to go round in circles when making setups so I tried to keep it simple.

I took my Daytona setup and made the changes from that, not sure what the gearing is in the default but from my daytona setup I ended up going down one click in the 3rd, 4th and 5th gear. Which was giving me about 290km/h top speed. I added plenty of wing, I think it was on 12 but not sure, could of been 13. Front was on 1 I think. With the shorter gearing and extra wing I was able to get on the power earlier and reach top speed faster (I was just reaching max speed at the final corner). Tyre pressures I just followed that tyre app. I think the fronts were 28 and the rears 25 on mediums which had them average at 33 fronts and 30 rears.

I split the race into 3 equal stints. I found that's about all the mediums could do for me anyway, each time I pitted the rears were done. I started with a full tank and each stop I put on new mediums and 22L of fuel which took basically the same amount of time to complete both. Actually dropped the final stop down to 20L as I knew I didn't need it all and that would cut out about 0.5-1.0 seconds in the stop.

I'll take the Mazda please
Thanks Wally

I would like to join up this season.

Sorry I didn't post before but I got busy and just took some time away from you guys. Hoping I can just slot back into the series now if that's cool.

Add me too please Wally, thanks :)

Yeah I've had this title for a long time as well. Unfortunately it's like many other multiplayer games these days and requires someone to host a server. So it's easy to figure out that there's next to no Aussie servers most of the time.

It's actually a really fun game but when you have to join a US based server and getting pings of over 200 then that fun disappears rather quickly. It doesn't handle that latency very well at all and you bounce around the track often and contact with other cars pretty much guarantees you'll be the one coming off worse. If you manage to join an Aussie server and have others playing as well, well then these problems aren't a concern and the whole experience is a blast.

It's happening to all of us, so I reckon it's a server issue.

I have started using this Microsoft tool to connect to the server:
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=44989

This  doesn't prompt me twice for the password and is generally very useful especially if you log on to more than one remote server.

Yeah that's also another option, is to install the more manageable version of Microsoft's remote tool.

The standard tool should still be ok to use. Just check your policies. I know it's happening with more people, but I still see it as the more likely issue.
I've seen RDP save credentials one day then not the next, work on one PC and not the next even though both were imaged together. I've never really cared about it much but it's just a problem I've seen pop up time and time again.
I wouldn't be surprised if Microsoft pushes changes in with some of their updates. Remember v1803 has been released deployed for Win10 as well, maybe policies were updated with that update?

Sounds like it could be issue with your PC, not the server. Maybe you should try this on your PC. (The PC connecting to the server)

Maybe start by checking this. This is just a copy from the URL listed just below. You can just scroll down a little bit on that page, I think it's the fourth picture on that page and this writing pasted below is just above that 4th pic. Check the policies on your PC to make sure it's allowing for saved credentials.

Local Computer Policy ➞ Computer Configuration ➞ Administrative Templates ➞ Windows Components ➞ Remote Desktop Services ➞ Remote Desktop Connection Client

Prompt for credentials on the client computer
Do not allow passwords to be saved

Thanks all :)

what about the password not saving anymore ?

Depends on how you access the server I suppose. Are you using RDP? Teamviewer? What is not working here?
I'm guessing the password is actually working though and you just need to enter it each time?

The server has started asking for a password every time I or Wally access it and also has started saying "The server name on the certificate is incorrect" and "The certificate is not from a trusted certifying authority", I am pretty dumb with all this stuff and was wondering if anyone (Bird) knows how to fix it

That would be the SSL certificate. Did you purchase one from a trusted authority previously?

Does any smart person know if I can use an Ethernet cable to plug my laptop which I am hotspotting to my phone into my pc so I can use my PC or is it easier to just buy a wireless adapter ?

AFAIK you can't just connect 2 computers with an ethernet cable - it requires different wiring, called a crossover cable.   You'd need a switch in between, otherwise.
I do not know how well the network sharing would work, never tried to set this kind up before, sorry.

Yes your right, you'll need a crossover cable. Basically the same cable but the wires are in a different order. If you don't have the crossover, then you can do it with a switch in between. You would need to share the connection on the laptop (Which I think enables ip forwarding for that connection in Windows) and you'll need to manually setup your connection on your PC to point the gateway to the laptop, whilst having both computers on the same subnet obviously.

Wouldn't it just be easier for you to plug the phone into USB and have that tethered straight to the racing PC?

Hi, I'm GT VIRUS, long time racer at ARSE, Missing AC so coming over here!

I'm a professional track developer, and I was the one who did the The Bend motorsports park and Newcastle for AC. I'm happy to help out with any track issues that the league might have.

Hey mate, I am Hylas. I've changed my name in here just to be confusing. Will be good to go racing with you again :)
I haven't raced with arse for some time now, never purchased pcars2 and that's pretty much the only sim they seem to play these days.

You've joined at a good time, new season will be starting soon. Don't forget to vote for your preferred car on the upcoming season too!

I'm in, Thanks Wally

General Discussion / Re: Sea of Thieves

Yeah I grabbed the 14 day trial and have been playing it.

I've learnt that at least half my mates have no idea how sailing works but they got there eventually. Doesn't matter though, the game suffers from a serious lack of content and I think it'll become a title I quickly leave behind.

The game does have some serious promise, but it's quickly dragged down by the poor performance we have all been getting on there, pings are completely unstable and even when it's not spiking it's still a rather high number. I am on adsl2 and a couple of my mates with very good 100mbit connections that typically get <10ms on aussie servers are sitting around the same as me in this game around 80ms or so, regardless of connection, we were all getting ping spikes up to 500ms then back down to 80ms. This process becomes very annoying as it happens often and when it did happen, you would warp around the boat a bit.

The gameplay does get rather dull when you just keep running the same missions over and over again. Doesn't seem much point to continue collecting gold as all that we could see to purchase with it, was cosmetics. Might be a different story if you could work your way up to better boats or weapons. Currently I can't see value in this game, especially at the AUD pricing of $100

The whole of race one and two were a battle against Shayne with both races decided on the last lap thanks to Shayne's car propensity to eat tires  ;D Sympathies mate I know how it feels to lose positions on the last few corners.

I still look at last night as a win, even though both races I ended up losing the position to you in the final laps. The move you made around the outside of me in race 2 was really good. I was actually quite shocked at how well you did in taking that position away from me.

Last night I really struggled with the tyres. I must of been a bit too aggressive with them, not surprising as most laps I was looking at you in my mirrors and trying to make a gap so they were getting a workout each and every lap.

It wasn't just the car that was giving up at the end, my mind and body were calling it a day as well. I'm just glad I was able to struggle through and finish without making any critical mistakes.
