so close! Gambled on the SS strat which was 5 - 10 seconds slower than that H S strat by numbers but gave better open track position in the first stint - Phil came out ater his late stop only 7 seconds in front and I started to gain for a few laps but then his newer tyres came good and he pulled a few seconds on me

also - did anyone else need 170+ litres to make the race or the DFV in the Lotus rather thirsty ?

well that all went terribly wrong :P

some windows update rendered the soundcard for the shakers unknown to the system which made the car feel weird (first world problems i know) - then the shifter's hall sensor for 2nd gear went a bit off meaning the 1st to 2nd shift at 3 points on track was a lottery at best (muich yellow gearbox and missed shifts were seen

finally i miscalculated how far the hards would run and committed to a HH strat when H S would have been viable with less top up fuel, faster finish and less time in the pits

also the wind was blowing the wrong direction, sun was in my eyes and didnt wear lucky socks + any other excuses :P

kcender, sorry for getting in your way when you were passing me the first time. I'm not running virtual mirrors, and got caught out with you catching me.

lol - all good I take a really narrow entry there (if im thinking of the right pass) that would probably usually be considered off line so i reckon you were in the right place - no harm done :)

lol ouch, need some light karting gloves

That was with gloves :P

Enjoyed the race, not quite as lonely as the Ferrari test. And it certainly paid  to be accurate and deliberate with the gear changes, no flat shifting!

A slight touch to Kcender (sorry) on the first lap left me some way behind the pack struggling to catch up, the soft tires was definitely a help on full fuel. Pitted early hoping for an under-cut which did not eventuate. But spend 17 laps chasing Wally, slowly reeling him in by 0.2s per lap just hoping his soft tires would fail before the hard tires I chose during the pit stop. But just as I finally got by Wally I picked the wrong side of a spinning car (Keith?  :P ) to give the spot back to him.   Fun race

Nah all good - i thought that was my fault - after missing out on the Lotus I rushed a blind guess of a set on the Mclaren and ran too soft and heavy so I was laying chassis under braking so I had no control at that point :P

Car was odd - was evil laps 1 - 5 then came good on mid fuel then became evil again toward the end - seems like it has rubbish geometry that is super sensitive to travel and ride height requiring over stiff suspension to control it which isnt the way to go on the old things - saved by a long no stop strategy :P

Dead keen on these over the v10s though

...can i claim the lotus 72 (peterson) please pending the 1975 season coming out on top :P

Can I just say 1 thing:

German Grand Prix, 3 August 1975, Nordschleife

1975 F1 it is - close the pole - decision made :P

Thought it was a good race including distance and wear / fuel

My math suggested a one stop Hard Hard was possible and assuming no errors could be up to 2.1 seconds faster over the entire race than a Med Med Med 2 stop but the Med Med Med gave a lighter car on average and was more competitive in traffic or groups. Given Marty's party mode of a qualli lap I decided the med med med was best to make sure i could fight at the start.

Def multiple strategy possible for the race - was good - these races will be won on strategy as much as outright pace i reckon

in of course

If that's the faster way I will try it next time

no phil no - that was not for you :P

I'm losing a fair bit of time down the bottom of the esses somehow, compared to the leaders. I'll have to watch Phil's line on the night  8)

that massive ripple strip on the exit of the esses is totally part of the track - as is the end of the access road after it :)

also - anyone got a race 2 replay laying about?

best racing for a long time there with matt - i had ... erm...brake fade .... at the end of race one and had a light coming together at turn one but race two was magic with 2 mistakes resulting in 2 swapped places then ruined tyres for me defending a rather fast matt behind - not sure what happened under the bridge on the last lap though :S

good season - see yall in the v10s :)
