Australian Assetto Corsa League, Tuesday nights / Rolling Start App
« on: October 02, 2016, 09:31:58 AM »
This is the Rolling Start App called RRL_Lights, based on the app here and tweaked for our league.

How it works
  • The red AC start lights come on and go off, as normal. Jump starts are disabled (which means the gear is locked in N until the lights go out).
  • Then you take off and form a single-file procession. The app tells you which position to stay in. If you get out of position, it blinks the position at you.
  • It advises a 180 kph speed limit for the leader.
  • At 75% lap distance, red lights come on in the app, and it tells you to prepare for the start. At this stage, the leader is advised of a 100 kph speed limit.
  • As soon as the leader crosses the start line, the lights go green, and then disappear shortly thereafter.
Green lights rule: The leader can't go until he crosses the start line. When the lights go green, everyone can go (including overtaking before the start line). The normal turn 1 and 2 rule will apply of keeping your side of the track and no cutting across to the apex.

The app shows up for 5 seconds in non-race sessions (or when you're in pits too, I think), so you can position it on the screen. You'd put it somewhere where it's not going to obscure your view, like near the top of the screen.

To install, download and extract the folder into your steamapps\common\assettocorsa\apps\python folder.

Australian Assetto Corsa League, Tuesday nights / Practice race Oct 4
« on: September 29, 2016, 10:02:21 AM »
I'll be away this Tuesday, but Marty can set up a practice round at a track of his choice, using whatever S14 cars we end up with (looking like the Maserati currently).

I'll have a new rolling start app out by then too, that doesn't display which driver to be behind, but what position to maintain (i.e. maintain your start position).

For simplicity and consistency, I'll also make the start rule that once the green lights come on (which is when the leader crosses the start line), then everyone can go as hard as they like, including passing before the start line.  This means the leader can't go until he reaches the start line and the green lights come on. This way, there won't be any question about when he can and can't go.

R2: Oct 18, Monza, Endurance: 1 x 30 laps [OSRW PIT MOD]
R3: Oct 25, Brands Hatch GP, Sprint: 2 x 20 laps [OSRW PIT MOD]
R4: Nov 1, Silverstone GP, Endurance: 1 x 27 laps [OSRW PIT MOD]
R5: Nov 8, Paul Ricard Blancpain, Endurance: 1 x 27 laps [VERSION 0.9.7 DOWNLOAD]

R7: Nov 22, Spa-Francorchamps, Endurance: 1 x 24 laps [OSRW PIT MOD]
R8: Nov 29, Barcelona Moto, Sprint: 2 x 16 laps [OSRW PIT MOD]

Qualifying starts at 8:30pm Eastern Daylight Savings time, and there is usually a long practice session before that, starting from around about 6:00pm.

Round Format
Sprint rounds (two 30 min races): One compulsory pit stop (no pit window), with no refuelling allowed. Tyre change is mandatory.

Format: 15 minute qualifying session. Race 1 is a "qualifying race", with reduced points and the grid order set by qualifying. Race 2 has no qualifying; grid order is set by race 1 finish position.

Points: Fastest qualifying time gets 1 point.
Race 1 (Qualifying Race) points are (for top 12 finishers): 22, 19, 16, 13, 11, 9, 7, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1
Race 2 points are (for top 20 finishers): 56, 51, 46, 41, 37, 33, 29, 25, 22, 19, 16, 13, 11, 9, 7, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1

Endurance rounds (one 60 min race): Two compulsory pit stops (no pit window), with refuelling allowed. At each stop, you must either change tyres, or refuel, or both.

Format: 15 minute qualifying session. Race 1 grid order set by qualifying.

Points: Fastest qualifying time gets 1 point.
Race points are (for top 20 finishers): 78, 70, 62, 54, 48, 42, 36, 30, 26, 22, 18, 14, 11, 9, 7, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1

Fuel rate: Sprint rounds: 1x. Endurance rounds: 1.7x (this means that no car can quite make it to the end of a 60 min race on 1 tank)
Tyre rate: 2x.

All races are rolling starts. The leader has to do about 100 kmh approaching the final turn, and can go anytime between exiting the last turn and the start line, at his discretion, with an announcement on TS. There is no overtaking before the start line.

Penalties
Opening lap major infringements (e.g. avoidable rear hits, unsafe track re-entry causing accidents etc), will be awarded 50 kg of penalty ballast for the next round.

Weather
Weather will be taken from the actual weather conditions on the corresponding 2016 Blancpain event.

Misano: 12 clear, 16 light clouds
Monza: 20 clear
Brands Hatch: 16 clear, 20 clear
Silverstone: 14 light clouds
Paul Ricard: 28 clear
Nürburgring Sprint GT: 13 clear, 14 clear
Spa:14 mid clouds, light rain (85% grip)
Barcelona: 20 mid clouds, light rain (85% grip), 24 mid clear

I have tweaked a rolling start app called RRL_Lights, borrowed from here for the GT season.

I've tested it offline, but please download it and try it online, say on one of Marty's servers with a few guys who all have the app.

What it does is:
  • The red AC start lights come on and go off, as normal.
  • Then you take off and form a single-file procession. The app tells you which driver to stay behind. If you get out of position, it blinks the name at you (I added this "driver to stay behind" stuff).
  • It advises a 180 kph speed limit for the leader.
  • At 75% lap distance, red lights come on in the app, and it tells you to prepare for the start. At this stage, the leader is advised of a 80 kph speed limit.
  • As soon as the leader crosses the start line, the lights go green, and then disappear shortly thereafter.
The app doesn't enforce it, but the idea would be no overtaking under green lights before the start line.

The app shows up for 5 seconds in non-race sessions (or when you're in pits too, I think), so you can position it on the screen. You'd put it somewhere where it's not going to obscure your view, like near the top of the screen.

Australian Assetto Corsa League, Tuesday nights / Season 14 Cars
« on: September 21, 2016, 06:35:03 PM »
After our last two seasons in open wheelers then road cars, it's time for another GT season. I've picked the 3 most popular options from the "Future Season Ideas" poll.

All options would feature a mix of round formats of 1 hour long races with 2 pitstops, and 2 half hour races with 1 pitstop each, in typical GT2 or GT fashion.

GT2 - Ferrari 458 GT2, BMW M3 GT2, Corvette C7R
No ABS or TC, featuring BOP ballast. Pick a car and keep it for the season.

GT4 - Single make, Maserati GranTurismo MC GT4
This car already has no TC or ABS. The car is included in the Red Pack DLC.

GT4 - Single make, Lotus 2 Eleven GT4
No ABS or TC (if it isn't already the case!)

This week will be a fun run with a mixed bag of 3 races in unannounced surprise combos, with fixed setups, to see who can adapt and learn the quickest. Each race will only have a 10 minute qualifying session, then a 20 minute race, at 3 different tracks, in 3 different cars (none of the cars are really that hard to drive).

For the "pre-race" warmup, I'll just have the server on a rotation of 5 lap races with a selection of cars, just for fun until 8:30pm Eastern, when the first random qually will start.

The cars and tracks could be from any of the DLC packs, but won't rely on any mods.

I promise I won't practice  :P . I've only done enough laps to determine fuel and tyre pressures!

Marty has a server up at Brands Hatch to compare lap times for the Ferrari GT2, BMW GT2 and Corvette C7R.  This will be ONE OF the options for next season, not THE option (there will be the usual poll at the end of the current season). I want to work out some ballasts to even up the cars for this option, like we've done with the Japanese cars. Jump on the server and post some times in each of the cars - we're only running Medium tyres to compare lap times.

Assetto Corsa / A car for masochists - Lambo Gallardo SL Step 3
« on: September 04, 2016, 10:19:05 AM »
I've been tooling around in this Lambo. It weighs as much as a supertanker, has no brakes, and with the turbo cranked up to 90%, it does over 300 kph. The challenge is to keep it on the track and not just spear off at every corner!

765
3 x 15 laps

With 23 entrants, we don't need to use the OSRW mod - so this is on the stock AC track.
