Australian Assetto Corsa League, Tuesday nights / Re: Tuesday Season 1: BMW M3 E30 Information and Driver Signup« on: June 10, 2014, 09:27:33 AM »Quote from: Dick Forrest I know that the sound of rubber squealing is the sound of speed being lost. But if they aren't, just, squealing you aren't pushing right? The sounds in a game aren't always real! In this case they're a bit exaggerated. There are also levels of tyre sounds. The first level is the good level; you're on the limit. Yeah, it's not that you must brake in a straight line - you can't always do that - just do it before the apex. If the rear kicks out too much, you can either adjust the setup (most obvious thing to change: brake balance to the front, i.e. increase the percentage) but you'll give away some braking power this way, pretty soon. Or you can adjust your driving style; - either don't apply full braking, ever. Really, about 50-80% pedal travel is where you need to operate. - or: lots of sim racers apply a bit of throttle in sticky situations. It stabilises the rear. You need to left-foot brake for this, of course. A trick: if things go completely belly up, and you know you won't be able to save it conventionally, you can jump on the brake AND the throttle and pull the car out of really nasty slides, sometimes. But all in all; just keep practising. It takes time to get used to things. I've found that for me the best way to get a handle on a new sim/car is to practice at different tracks. Maybe you can try it; run half-hour sessions at each track of the season. Especially good if you know the track already, somewhat. 1997

Excellent advice! I think that better brake early is true in almost all corners. Exit speed is the name of the game, plus - the car wobbles a lot when you change between brake/throttle - it turns better with throttle on so it's best to be done with the braking before the apex, and take the apex with some throttle applied 1998

I think you can pre-book any number (well over the limit). We really need to see what it does, first.

err...I need to emphasise that what I as said is that they seem to be better than my old A1 set. They have just proven to become a tad spikey after less than half a year. That's not a good sign.
Altho these are the absolute basic pedals. Maybe the one up ($200 I think) are better. p.s. happy to hear that I've helped others, too, with that warning! 2000
Australian Assetto Corsa League, Tuesday nights / Round 1: Imola Race Chat« on: June 09, 2014, 02:24:56 PM »
As usual, here's a pre- and post-race chat thread.
Let me start off with a warning; check your pedals. Why? How much time do you think a spiking pedal is worth? How about a spiking clutch? I've been running slower and slower lately - including the other night together, I could not get near my pb let alone under it. Today I've loaded it up and noticed I can't hit 204 on at the s/f line, which was usual before, only about 200...weird. No matter how well I've tried. Frustrated as hell, I've run a few laps, but could not get below 2.02. Fark me that's nearly 3s off my pb (59.2 it was). At this point I've gotten suspicious. I've put the "pedals" app up, and noticed that there's a tiny bit of movement on the clutch input, Really small, but as it seems quite significant. I've put a hefty deadzone on the pedal, went back...and within 5 laps produced a 58.6. So all in all that little spiking has cost me a good 3 seconds indeed. I've now hit 207km/h at the s/f line. Amazing. Other lesson; the basic Fanatec pedal isn't that much better than the old A1 set after all - it was spiking too, but it was doing it after long years of service. Anyways, happy with the time. Btw, Marty, you don't seem to be up there - or is it just me? Look me up on steam (ysu) and add me as a friend, will you? 2001

I've been long thinking about a DAC, exactly since my last sound card. But they're expensive. (Altho a good sound card is equally expensive!)
But since I'd like to buy a good set of cans (AKG) at some point, it'll become a necessity. Mind you, I still think - feel, hear - that the el-cheapo on-board sound card makes a poorer sound compared to a decent dedicated sound card. But a DAC is a better investment, that's for sure. 2002
Assetto Corsa / Re: Setups« on: June 07, 2014, 02:14:39 PM »I tried Birds but Im not good enough to drive that consistently I did borrow your gearing though as that's probably where I was most lost. That's actually quite a nice setup, very stable, very capable, hats off sir. I think I'll use this for the race - it's much more consistent, and still good for a '59 for me. But your brake balance was borked; it's 75% front, I'm locking it up every time I touch the pedal. Reduced it to 65% and suddenly it drives very well, I can even pull it up for a corner 2003

Good to see we've multiple setups. Everyone's style is different.
It seems we share a driving style, Darren and Guybrush. Your setups suit me well, too! 2004

Thanks, guys, for the executive summary, that's what I thought.
I'd put in a 1TB Samsung 840 to be honest. I still may, just for the fun of it Nah, actually the 256GB is plenty. Especially paired with a 2TB SSHD. 2007

You're expected to stay within the white lines with at least 1 wheel all the time. Having said that, we've been allowed to use the marked runoffs in nkp with all fours
Wally said on thursday - I've asked this specifically - that indeed cars will be recalculated (based on your total points) after each round, not after each race. (It'd be a bit too much to ask I reckon.) We all start in Group A. 2008

No time to read it right now, but I expect there'll be little difference if any. I'll read it later to see if I've guessed right

Hm, ok...I was and still am afraid of a load cell setup a bit, due to the exact same thing, I just can't RFB in-game. But then I can't LFB in the real car. (well I can but it feels wrong and the result is not ideal either ) |
