My first setup change ever  was to bend the little contacts underneath the Scalextric car up a bit to reduce friction against the track.

My brother had a Scaletrix (sp?) slot car set.  I remember setting up the burm on one corner so I could launch cars off it into the Christmas tree.

But, my setup trick as a 5 year old was to spray CRC on the track on a corner so I could practice power sliding around it.

Good times.

How is the latest update to ACC?  A Lot of the Youtube guys I watch - eg Gamer Muscle - don't seem to be very hot on the handling compared to AC...

Hopefully it's not something to do with the new engine.

I recommend popping onto www.ozbargain.com.au/deals every now and then.  There are always graphics cards coming up.

RTX 2080 for $1099:  https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/410249

Has motion sickness been an issue?

In depth review...almost 3 hours

Where's the extended version?

I think the issue is that there is virtually nothing that has been optimised for these news cards from the ground up.  Personally, I don't care too much for ray tracing.  I want to see pure grunt that will propel me through AC at 90 FPS using 180 degree 8K VR.

I think it's only 1080p

Pimax review :

Sounds OK. Question is which is best for sim racing.

How on earth is anyone going to play this game in VR - requiring ~90 FPS....

As a non-participating paticipant, I'd suggest having one-off ACC events on another night of the week to begin with.  The game will be in it's infancy and will probably be lacking in a lot of features when it comes to Multiplayer.

Once it matures and gains popularity then I would suggest looking at a straw poll aound a championship to decide whether you treat it as a separate game and run it on another night of the week, or whether to alternate during the week.

As above, the issue will be dividing an already smallish community between two championships,  yet those that will be paticipating in just one of the series may not like the idea of only racing every 2 or 3 weeks if you altenate between series each week.

If I was racing (hopefully not too far off!) I'd want to be all in with a series or not at all, so to commit to a particular series and only race in it a couple of times a month wouldn't fit with my "mentality", but that is just me.  I hope that makes sense.

Check out the night time reflections and drying line at 28:40.

Looks good.  Although there didn't seem to be much of a difference in grip between the dry line and the wet line - but only so much you can tell from that kind of footage.

Good move for the next two years, but not a great move if he plans on getting into a top team after that.  Hard to get noticed when you are getting lapped by 6 other cars.

I guess after being on the equivalent of an F1 drivers pittance at RBR he is entitled to feather his nest.

I don't understand the bit about 'bumpstops'. Does it mean something else in Italian?

They are as they sound.  Think of them as an extra set of firm mini springs right at the end of travel of the regular springs to stop a car bottoming out.  This way you could have softer springs or lower ride height without bottoming out and spinning off across the curbs.

I'm pretty sure AC has these in the more complex cars setup wise.

I think the variable rate part refers to how stiff they are based on compression rate of the spring.  Same of the absorbers.

Seems like only yesterday that AC was released for early access.  Will never forget the first time I tried the Formula Abarth and felt for the first time in any sim like I was driving an actual car and not something lubed up on ice.

:o The Pixma 8k looks good though for the next step  :)

This is what I am waiting for.  When/if it is as good as it has the potential to be I will be rebuilding my comp, getting a new wheel and jumping back in.
