Assetto Corsa / The grat's PC thread!
« on: January 10, 2018, 11:34:44 AM »
As Phil suggested, I am opening a thread about my PC. Currents specs are:

CPU: i7-4790 @4.00GHz now mildly overclocked at 4.40GHz with Overclock Genie heavily overclocked to 4.6GHz
RAM: 16 GB DDR3 @1600Mhz, now overclocked to some @2000 (not completely sure of this number)
GPU: EVGA GEFORCE GTX 980, I think it came in overclocked and I have overclocked it a bit more today.

Computer is running clean of any garbage.

What's the issue:
I've got thius Lenovo Mixed Reality device and I managed to make it run smooth at 90fps with decent quality when in single play. But in a race with many cars, even if I disable PP, reflections, shadows to low and so on, I get lows of 50 or so when in traffic + close to pits.

Next thing I'll do:

Try to overclock the CPU a bit. If all fails, the question is:

IF I SPEND 1K+ on a 1080Ti, will I get 90fps smooth in a race on this Lenovo mixed reality thingy? If so, I'll buy it. If not, then it would be pretty pointless anyway ;)

Australian Assetto Corsa League, Tuesday nights / Public server racing
« on: January 05, 2018, 09:30:29 AM »
Just one note: do you guys think there is anything we can do to revitalize the public servers racing community in Australia? We used to have a few races during the week on Marty's servers. But that kind of stuff seems to have all but disappeared. I think it was useful for learning to drive in traffic...

Assetto Corsa / lenovo mixed reality
« on: December 29, 2017, 08:40:09 PM »
Well, so, I kind of randomly got my hands on one of these new Lenovo mixed reality headset. So today I put it on for some AC. It works. Everything far is quite washed out, but it works.

Apparently I have no motion sickness. Seriously: I have been driving for 3 hours and I have no problem whatsoever.

I am not sure if I can actually be competitive with it, but tomorrow I'll try to put some laps in the practice server and if I am on the pace I may try to race with it on Tuesday.

Any suggestion from the VR savvies?

Fanatec has asked me to send the wheel base in for repairs. I am trying to ship it tomorrow before leaving. Hopefully it will be back when I am back in Sydney in September.

Please post lots of videos and cool race reports to keep me entertained.

In the meantime: have fun, guys!

Assetto Corsa / fingers and wrist problems
« on: May 03, 2017, 07:04:57 AM »
Hi all,

I am developing a bit of an issue with fingers and wrist pain, numbness, and... how to say: when fingers move a bit in a jerky way. It's most likely some form of carpal tunnel/guyon canal problem because of driving. I probably do not hold the wheel right and should improve that. But I am wondering whether some of you with more experience have specific suggestions, like I should use some sort of gloves or stuff like that.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Just watched this race. Their starts are worse than ours, but this race (race 2) was really excellent!

PS: do not waste your time with race 1, though ;)

Mod Tracks / One to try out: Cadwell Park 1.1
« on: March 08, 2017, 07:13:50 PM »
No feedback from me yet---haven't tried it yet. But they have just added a physical mesh I think following LilSki guide, so hopefully it's good.

Australian Assetto Corsa League, Tuesday nights / ballast
« on: February 21, 2017, 09:28:39 PM »

you all know how much I love Wally and appreciate how hard it is to run the league. I care about saying this: I really appreciate it.

I think the ballast system has failed us too many times. It's nobody's fault. Simply with the update this time it was not calibrated. So while in Tor Poznan Joe and Diehard could at least stay close to the top, here it was >2seconds per lap for me and kcencer and diehard. It hink the car was simply way too different from usual... very hard to drive. I know kcender and diehard managed to avoid the carnage at the start, and if I did too, I could have stayed with them. But after 6 laps or so, they were running like 15 seconds from Phil. That cannot be what we wanted to achieve.

So I am asking a honest question to all: who is benefiting from the ballast? I am not kidding. I am really not sure about who is enjoying the races better because of it. If there are, then I am happy to keep going with it. But otherwise, why do we do it? It is pretty clear several of us really do not like it.

Please just discuss. I mean to harm to anybody. Just thought it is a good moment (between seasons) to have this kind of chats.

Mod Tracks / Thomson Road New track from Fat-Alfie---looks really cool

I think it is still not fps optimized for 20+cars, but looks amazing! Will try it soon:

Assetto Corsa / Fun race (silly?) proposal
« on: January 26, 2017, 01:40:46 PM »
I just had a few laps in the Lotus 49 on Spa the wrong way around. It is an amazing track, with a very old style flow! I think it would be great.

Sorry guys: horrible night. It started ok. It was fun to battle with Phil and Marty, although after the 3rd or 4th contact I decided to give up defending my position and see if I could win it on pace. Unfortunately it got very hot in my room and my brain was not working right anymore, so I had a small spin which costed me some 6 seconds. But 2nd place was still more than feasible, and perhaps even 1st, if Marty had not too much fuel with him...

Unfortunately when I went to pit the first time I could not get into pit as it was so soon after the entrance that my car was not straight enough to be recognized as in place. It took me a while to realize and so I lost another 10 seconds with that. I then lost control completely, forgot to push F10 and when I stop the second time, I both lost seconds trying to reverse into my pit box AND I refuelled again, which in any case would have been forbidden. So I thought I could remedy by reversing my fuel and change tyres by hitting "ESC", but I forgot the stupid pit box penalty Kunos added (I find that thing the worst thing ever happened to this game) and at that point the total sum of my misfortunes was more than 2 minutes and, frankly, I was just too sad.

Really sad: it was a great chance for me to win a race or at least score important points. As I will have to miss the last race for sure, I guess at this point also my chances for a season podium are gone... :(

Apps / content manager
« on: November 05, 2016, 07:55:50 PM »
Anybody here is using or has used AC content manager? It seems to have some nice feature, and they tell me you can have multiple presets so that you can race in a triple screen preset and then watch replays in a single screen all-ultra preset immediately after, without having to mess up with your carefully chosen video settings.

As I am not very savvy I am too prudent to try before asking some of you... ;)

Mod Tracks / Bilster Berg
« on: August 30, 2016, 03:45:26 PM »
Hey. Bilster Berg by Fat-Alfie (http://www.assettocorsa.net/forum/index.php?threads/bilster-berg-cancelled.24773/ ) is not available anymore as he sold it to the track owners. But he left to some of us his beta version which is basically all done. It is a fantastic track for hotlapping and it could possibly be real fun in some pretty slow cars, if we ever want to race them there... and definitely for a fun night.

I am not sure he wants us/can allow us to share the beta version to everybody. But maybe we can share it among XGN league members only?

Assetto Corsa / How about a car parade?
« on: March 29, 2016, 06:50:08 PM »
I am thinking that after the successful "who's who?" thread, perhaps we should make a "whose's what?" one. Each of us sends to Wally a picture of his or her (I know, I know, no girl here... just being polite) car and we have to guess whose car is which.

What do you think, Wally?
