Well done to the winners, sucks to be me….all the go and nothing to show for it  :-[

Race 1 = I was far too ‘safe’ in the opening lap and managed to clip the inside of the ripple strip on the final corner resulting in the first of many spins….
Race 2 = got a far better start, but then fell off at that bloody last corner again when watching Joe spin and then crashing myself taking out Wally when I couldn’t make a good decision about which way to zig or zag….
Race 3 = got a great start and was following Mael and Seanus when both made side to side contact mid corner heading towards turn 5 resulting in Mael sliding off wide and me going off as well whilst I was trying to avoid him and a massive crash….

After such a solid practice and then amazing qualifying session I was really expecting something better than this, a massive opportunity wasted :'(

This is a tricky little track, I can’t recall how many times that closing radius turn 5 has caught me out….could be a very interesting night

34
Well done, that’s a cracker of a livery!

35
If someone punts Mael off then the rest of us are going to have some very close racing!

This was an interesting night. Apart from not knowing how to throw a FWD around in anger the 3 cars were vastly different in how they drove.
  • Race 1 in the Mondeo = extreme mid corner oversteer which was very predictable as it happened at every apex
  • Race 2 in the Vectra = with a very early turn in and then throttle when it understeered it felt much calmer to drive.
  • Race 3 in the Accord = really weird, as I couldn't get my head around how to drive it. It felt the best to drive in terms of stability but lap times were a lot slower and the gearing felt much taller than the other 2
I must admit, they were all good to drive close to each other, however I found myself cutting so many corners just to get speed that mentally driving them didn't feel very sportsman like. Whilst I drive a FWD daily, I must admit for a race night my preference is for large, loud big horse power RWD monsters

Mael's set a cracking time to chase!

He has! It looks like tyre life could be rather interesting in these cars too

Hate FWD.....
 :-X

They’re not that bad…if it makes you feel better just pretend it’s an open wheeler with lots of understeer  ;D

Wow! Some interesting stats there, I’m blown away….hopefully we can see bigger grids for next season as these cars presented some great racing. Whilst being extremely hard to drive consistently fast, this challenge was extremely enjoyable and rewarding. Thanks Wally

I won't make this week.
Suffering from plague and I'm just not up to it. :(

Sorry to hear that… after turning a few laps tonight I think you’d need to be running the nascar layout in that Fairlane to be competitive

The difference in the two types of cars really showed here with the superior torque of the Healy proving too great for the MG's to be competitive against them. Had the good ship Fairlane been rolled out I believe it would have been battling the MG's as it's long braking distances would been too much to challenge the Austin Healy's - Oran Park with all it's corners and big main straight is going to be a different battle where I expect the MG's superior turn-in to pay big dividends!

Looking at just the results it appears that my night was pretty quite, but in reality it was anything but! For a such a short lap it was extremely intensive and I never felt comfortable from one corner to the next, especially from the end of the back straight, until I was out of turn 1-2 and back onto the straight again. The continual cornering and elevation changes meant that the Austin was sliding on the edge of no-return for the bulk of the lap.

My qualifying lap was near to perfect despite coping a bash from Mael on the opening lap of the session, no one at fault, just the differences in braking and turning in points catching Mael out. Race 1 was head down, slide out of the corners as I pushed as hard as I dare and ignore the mirrors. I was shocked to see the time gap growing to those behind me, but I knew it wouldn't take long for Wally to find more speed as the night progresses, as has been the case all season.

I felt I had race two under control after getting a good start and opening a 2 second gap to Wally, but I could not shake him. Mid way through the race my outside tyres ended up 1psi over pressures and I noticed it as I was unable to find my absolute qualifying speed, I then went searching for time at the hairpin and nearly stuffed up on several occasions, so I just tried as hard as I could to keep Wally behind, knowing that on this track in equal cars it was always going to be extremely difficult to pass. At one stage around 2/3 race distance we both set the fastest lap by doing identical times on the same laps, but then Wally was able to find more speed and take that fastest lap point, stopping for chance of a perfect night score of 58 points!

Race 3 and heading into the reverse race I expected it to be an extremely difficult race. To my surprise I was able to get a great start and jump the two MG's before the hairpin and not long after that the 3 of them were engaged in a massive battle allowing me to race off into the distance. Eventually Wally got into second but by then I was too far down the road and it was game over.....

It's sad that we don't have bigger grids because these cars are able to be safely driven very close to one another and they're tough to drive making them extremely rewarding

Another cracker of a night in these old little cars, quali was a lot of fun as I tried to get deeper and deeper under brakes at the back straight without going too far but my pole lap was about as close to the perfect lap as I'd done on that circuit in terms of hitting the right markers at the right time.

Race 1: I got a good start and drove off but the challenge of the back straight kept me pushing myself all race long

Race 2: Got a shocker of a start (too many revs, then bogged it) and whilst allowing space and trying to race clean Wally managed to position his car in the better position and get past. I then got into tyre trouble as my pressures were way too high meaning I was losing grip, which lead to me pushing too hard, which lead to mistakes and a couple of off track moments at the braking for the back straight. Eventually ended up behind Bacchulum's yacht and so whilst I tailgated him for many laps, my race was over, well done to him for such a faultless drive.

Race 3: sorted out my tyre pressure issues and was able to get to the front of the reverse grid race pretty quickly due to the MG-A formation flying off the track at turn 1. I thought my time of 1m12.163 was a pretty good one, until around half race distance Mael did a 1m12.162!

Sorry to see Joe out so early in the night and hopefully he's able to sort out his peddles soon, I the springs in my old Hyper peddles are nearing the end of their life and knowing that Hyper are no longer, I'm going to have to start looking for replacements before too long as well....

.
...Into turn 1 there are 3, evenly spaced marshals that I'm using but into the last chicane there's nothing....

Oh I know, how hard is it to consistently find the right spot.....after coming over that hill and through the chicane, I can't seem to find any rhythm for when and where to stop. For such an old converted track (imho it looks identical to the rFactor version) you'd think someone would have thrown some in  :o

Despite the result looking like an easy night I really struggled with getting into a consistent rhythm at this track. I don’t remember driving this track before and with no braking markers at the last and first corners it’s was quite tricky to work out where to turn in and stop. This place was packed with a series of challenging corners where by if you stuffed up the first one, the next two or three were corners felt like you were moments from disaster, this challenge in itself was terrific. I was shocked to steel the poles considering Freezers practice which was nearly a second faster than anything I could manage.

The opening two races saw (for me) very busy opening laps until I could get tyre temp and find a groove.  The reverse grid race was challenging as the four of us were nose to tail for several intense laps. Eventually I was able to find a way pass but I couldn’t shake Freezer. His MG was super quick where I wasn’t and it was only the longer legs of the Austin which kept me in front until he crashed out. Towards the end of the race Mael caught me and given a lap or two more, the result may have been very different as I think my tyres were done….Must admit I’m really regretting telling you about the diff ratios now Wally, you got that fastest lap in the 3rd race by 0.01s! Good on you  :)

Still upset. Tried my best to push Bacchulum wide on the final corner and all that happened was a slight wobble from his monstrous tank.

I think you’d need a big bulldozer to budge his land yacht
