Logitech G2x Optical Encoder
« on: November 27, 2016, 11:30:24 PM »
Hi guys,

My G25's Optical Encoder wheel has just bought the farm. Or at least I think it has. It calibrates fine, then by the time I've driven two laps of Spa, "straight" is at about 40 degrees. Unplug, replug, try again, same deal.

I've heard about many different ways to fix, but I thought I'd ask here and see if anybody else here had come across this problem and what successes and/or failures they have had.

:)

Not hard often it is just loose. Sometimes cracked but more often the former. There are a couple of videos on YouTube that look instructive
Just need Allen key and screw driver from memory. If it is loose, I think I added a dab of (my favourite bright red) nail polish on the screw head to edge, just a leeeeeetle if you do.

Well it turns out that the wires inside a 10+ year old 3rd hand G25 are quite brittle and break easily. Didn't even manage to get to the optical encoder as I was unable to get the connectors off the main PCB without more or less destroying them. Probably could be fixed with a soldering iron and a steady hand, but my hands are far from steady enough for that kind of intricate work.

I'm declaring this sucker dead. Might be out of racing for a while until I can find a 2nd hand G27 for a reasonable (read: cheap) price.

That's bad news AJ. I wonder if you could find an electrical repair place to repair the wiring. I don't know how economical that might be though.

Would probably cost more than I paid for the wheel in the first place, so I'm not sure I'm too keen on going down that path.

I'd be having a go at soldering it yourself AJ.. it's really not that difficult, and you really haven't got
anything to lose seeing as it's not working as it is now.  ;)
NEVER TOO OLD TO RACE ... being competitive can be a PROBLEM though.

So the Mrs came to the party and told me to just buy a new one, so I just went out and picked up a G29.
