Title: Season 3 round 2: Gentrack Race Chat
Post by: Wally on September 16, 2014, 11:35:24 PM
Here is the car allocation, based on the average of your fastest lap times in each of the 3 races:

Dick Forrest [CramDick Racing]    Exige 240R S3
Grubbet    Exige 240R S3
Insomniac    Exige 240R S3
Flattop    Exige S Roadster
RPM    Evora S
Vipergod    Exige 240R
Dave O    M3 E92
Thndr    M3 E92
GWyar    M3 E92
Rob    BMW 1M
Krahl    BMW 1M
Rolz    BMW 1M
cramjet [CramDick Racing]    BMW 1M
Phil    Elise SC S2
Crimespree    Elise SC
Imperious    Elise SC
Peter Reid    Elise SC
Bacchulum    Elise SC
Ysu [TKO Racing]    Elise SC
EdWood    Elise SC
Freezer    Elise SC
Wally [TKO Racing]    Elise SC
Marty [Achilles Heels]    Elise SC
Guybrush Threepwood [Achilles Heels]    Elise SC

Anyone else: Exige 240R

As how the ballast used to be, the first adjustment is always a more dramatic one - it can take a round or 2 before it settles into a balance.

Looks interesting, Kind of surprised so many are in the Elise SC would have thought some more may have got the s1 and s2 but seeing racing was close up front the last round. With most up front in the same car and those that were a little off the pace getting cars to come close to matching the leaders it should be quite interesting. There are a few longer straights at gentrack so the guys with the horsepower should be quite a pest most of these races to us in the little Lotti.  ;)

Love Gentrack.  Probay the best mod track and one of the best in AC full stop IMO.

Let's see how these Lotus go around it. :)

That's how it was with ballast too. After one round, you get "blunt" changes at first, then it will get refined. Next round, I expect there will be less people in the Elise.

Definatly one of the better ones id rate 4 or 5 above it but we have different tastes in tracks.

Are you sure it's "Achilles Heels"?
Don't you remember Marty? You agreed with Guybrush in changing your team name to "The Hello Kitty's"
It was just after you came out of hospital so I can understand if you don't quite remember..

Definitely not the case Dick, your free to name your team whatever you like assuming you team mate agrees to the terms.

But going by your regular naming scheme I think youd be replacing the "K" with a "T" but even that simply wouldn't be in the same sexaulity genre you seem so stuck in or offensive enough so I dont expect your name to change.  ;D

I wont mention where you seem to be stuck but names such as CramDick, Dick Forrest, Dick Smoking challenge etc wouldn't have any room for tits as they are feminine things. Thats unless you are really %^$& up and like them but only on a mans body.  ;)

True... but in theory you should be closer to everyone above you.

I've PB'd a 1:42.9 in the Elise SC (although I think I set a faster time that RSR failed to capture).

Not complaining ;) should make for an interesting race. Just hope it can stay as clean as it generally is :)

Just noticed Gentrack 1 has 34 grid slots so possibly if a practice server goes up it could include all drivers including reserves prebooked in the cars they are allocated as it stands 24+_5 reserves.

I will put my server for now with the cars for round 1 so people can have a go.

Ran a couple laps and beat the WR, pretty basic setup but here is what I came up with in a handful of laps.

Edit: I see Wally ran some laps at nearly the same time but still a WR just ahead of Wally for now.  ;D

My server just has 4 of each of the cars but if you give me a list of all the GUID's in a pm I can make up the entry list for you, just need to know what cars are the reserves getting too.

Wally, is everyone in the elise SC driving the base model?  It's a bit weird that everyone falls into the same categ  :)

Btw; impressive lap, Wally!
I'm learning the track and only been able to get to .4 to your time in 20 or so laps. I'm often losing heaps of time in T1.  And I mean heaps, half a second easily.  I've been able to nail it once or twice, only.

And that corner combo leading to the s/f straight (or rather the bend before) is just magnificent.  Whoever made this track was good. Really good.  It's a very tricky track.  Also a 100% believable one, too.    Hats off.

Just Phil is in the stage 2 Elise.

It's just how the fastest lap times panned out. From Crimespree to Guybrush, there wasn't all that much difference in fastest lap times, compared to the rest.

Also, I have the Practice server up with 29 slots, with everyone including reserves in their allocated car.

I've invited all the reserves to race this round (thanks for pointing out the pit bays Marty). If everyone turns up, we'll have 29 on track.

Is a good lap by wall I have got within a 10th of it but RSR keeps not working every time a session is restart on my server. I think it will be rather close in the elises and racing M1's is doable as long as they dont run a perfect race. Elise is quite a bit quicker off the line then an m1 which is a surprise to me as you can get to t1 ahead of them at least.

Will be interesting to see how AC and the server handles that number of players, unfortunately this track isnt as popular on a pickup server so most Ive had on atm is 4 so far.

I think the key to a good lap here is to take a fair bit of kerb e.g. that fast left hander (about turn 3) and the chicane before the final corner.

I got pretty close to you Wally .028 short and was about .3 down after t1 so a bit there if anyone can get a lap together. Quite fun in this car actually but the gears are wrong at just about every corner id love to adjust them a little.

Just managed a low 1:42 in the 1m. Made a couple mistakes and was only on my 4th or 5th lap around here :D I know this car turns into an absolute pig through the bends with lower grip though so not sure how I'll go.

Well looking good.
Just done 7-8 laps in the 240R stage 3 and had a PB of 1.44.2
I'm sure I can shave 2 seconds off that. I'm ~5 seconds off the WR

Edit.. and I have.. 1.42.9

Now Threepwood & Co. will come out and start doing 1.28s in wooden hill carts.

edit.. This track is awesome after driving something other than the 3 ton cake of soap (Cobra)

Im sure we could teach you to knock a few more seconds off that time Dick, then you will just need to unlearn it again to go back to your regular pace.

Yeah Lets hope the track is wide enough. Could be 6-7 wide in a few corners.
I was pretty consitant with my lap times. I'm going to say my race pace will be close to 1.42 with some practice tonight I know I'm making mistakes here and there.

I got a 1:42.1 in the exige 240R but It might of been a foul lap because I might of gone out the lines on the bus stop double chicane bit.

Edit: I have also yet to get another lap like that but I've only done about 20 or so laps around the track.

I will jump on later tonight and run some laps, Im sure following a few guys around Dick you will be able to knock a second off those laps too.

Been pretty close racing with the elise guys when there was a few around. I havent seen anyone in a 240r yet on the server but the 1m vs elise was interesting and fairly close. Definatly worth most guys having a bit of a practice race and the server is setup for 5 laps to get an idea of how to handle the car making passes. The performance difference between cars will make you get a good run on some cars but most of the slower cars are much better under brakes and into the corner so those that are faster need to brake earlier and corner slower, should make for an interesting nights racing. Was good fun last round but now some of the others will get to join the fun, running 3 races with no contact will be quite a challenge I think.

I can imagine 4 wide into t1 happening at some point during the race and I think we tried that somewhere the other day. Surprisingly nobody hit another car but also nobody made the corner.  ;D

T1 is an interesting passing spot as you can pass on the inside or outside there and with 2 drivers giving eachother racing room you can be side by side for half a lap but t3 is hard enough on your own so side by side is much slower. The chicane is possible to get alongside someone but making a pass there will be very tricky and youd be better off just getting in close and getting a good run out passing into t1 next lap.

yeah that bus stop gets me. don't know if i should break early, late or if at all.
I notice I can smash into any curb here and no spin.

T1 here is kinda user friendly I think. Not too sharp. Should be fine... till about turn 4.. the hairpin?
But yep I predict a lot of "oh sorry" over TS.

The rule of thumb in T1 on the opening lap will be stay on your side of the track and give racing room!

I meant user friendly as in a bit safer to get around on lap 1 with a lot of cars.. I imagine anyway.
Last night had a lot of fun with 5-6 of us. There will be some shunts tonight... Not from me, but from Marty. That Edwood fella need to watch out for him too.

So I'm sorry Vipergod I have no doubt I'll take you out, maybe Gratulin and GW too.. They seem to be my bunnies..

Dave actually got to a low 1.38 in the car be hates, was kind of fun trying to race him as it made me go a bit quicker but even if I was going quicker then Guybrush Dave still had to wait once he got infront just about every lap or id never see him again. At least he wont have to hate that car next week maybe if he gets an elise he will find another car to hate soon enough. ;D

Qualy will be interesting if we get a full turnout. Trying to get a clean lap will be pretty hard tonight with so much traffic. Will be a good test to see how everyones computers handle the gane with so many cars. Following Dick last nite even when he said he got a cpu warning didnt make him do any warping so that theory of mine seems to be shot too lol.

Still see the odd warp from Ed but that was others sharing the net and ping spiking as its fine most of the time. Just the odd random spike mostly when side by side he was disapearing which makes it a little tricky.

I  actually like the Elise. Lower your expectations of speed a little, and you can still fang it around the corners  nicely.

Post by: marty on September 23, 2014, 10:59:35 AM
I do like all the street cars and the elise is pretty good fun with the shifter. I think im on all 3 pedals most of the way around :D. It doesnt like downshifts with a locked rear so need to heel toe and clutch into a couple brake points. Not much can be done setup wise so you just have to drive it to the setup more then tune it to your style.

Its just a sitting duck on the front straight as its about 2 seconds slower there then the quicker cars but that should make for some interesting racing in the mid pack at least. The good thing at this track is the middle of the lap can be easily stuffed up by anyone so error free races will gain a few spots over many if anyone can do it. Im pretty sure the lawns wont need to be moved for a while after our league race at least.

I  actually like the Elise. Lower your expectations of speed a little, and you can still fang it around the corners  nicely.

I don't quite like it.
I mean on one hand it's nice, but it just does not react to my inputs as other cars used to, mostly due to the lack of power and strong understeer-tendency I think.   So yeah, not a big fan as of yet.   But neither of these small lotuses are to my liking, really.

That's great Schmittez, I put in some laps last night in my ride and down to 43s, so I'll be on early tonight to practice.  As Wally said, it should be close racing,  8)

haha I lied!   I put down a 1:41:203 :-* according to RSR I have another 0:1.4 to find...
PS have you checked out my 1st draft of Shelby Cup award Bruce?
Hehe certainly did :)

That's the deceptive  thing with setups. It's usually the extra laps you do testing a setup that make you quicker, not the setup changes themselves.

Mr Bacchulum is very quiet.
  I bet he's breaking 1:39's too.

You're on 1:41's Wally? How about Bird?

If we are all between 1:42 and 1:39s We will need a wider track..

No track is wide enough for you dick, but there will be quite a few running laps between the 40's and 42's so Im looking forward to the racing.

Here is a great video, shame its recorded and rendered with a potato but shows how to pass the field in an Elise at Bathurst. Some awesome driving by all to give each other enough room to not send anyone into a wall.

Well, just heard some thunder which means my power might go out hopefully it doesn't but, its not uncommon for it to go out if the weather turn south a bit. I will let you know if it does go out and whether I will be able to race or not.

Id like a larger break between races so you can squeeze one out if needed.  ;) Makes it hard if you need to be there for the start of qualy til end of race then repeat 3 times. But the length of qualy isnt too bad I just had bad luck race 2 being stuck behind others I didnt want to pass and ruin their hotlaps so backed off to give myself enough time to get one last lap in. Only to be blocked by someone pulling out of the pits, I did pull out on someone on the practice server at one point and we crashed then he just left the server. Wasnt even time to say sorry but also it was just a practice session but people will need to be aware of others coming out of the pits here as the cars are going to be closing rather quick.

Tyre wear not being much of an issue and only having 10 min to qualy best to just fill it up for 10 minutes then run some laps. Not much need to pit during the session as your just taking laps off yourself as your lucky to get 5 laps in with 4 of them being timed. If you pit during the session you will have 2 outlaps and likely only time for 2 hotlaps.

Here are the 3 race replay files from this round,

https://mega.co.nz/#!fcBmyaAQ!IXkOQRBPGXnFIg59DfxMatekFnUJ8STv95Sj-B3xQtQ

Race 1 Battled a little with Guy early then with Krahl in the 1M, was quite tricky as we were both slowing eachother down a little due to each cars strength and weakness. I couldnt make the move then made a couple mistakes at the end to finish a bit behind the first 3.

Race 2 was most fun if anything starting in pits (again) was the most enjoyable race even if frustrating trying to get by quicker cars. Lap 1 was chaos biggest shunt I have seen so far in any XGN races, I nearly made it through but got caught by the last 2 cars after getting by half the field facing everywhere but forward. Then had to dive bomb into the hairpin for all the places but lost 2 spots at the line on the last lap to a couple quicker cars just needed the line to be 50m sooner lol.

Race 3 hadsome good battles with a few guys and had no contact, I nearly took out Guy and someone else when getting squeezed 3 wide inside of the hairpin on lap 1 so glad they slowed and let me just run it wide. I touched the grass and locked a wheel then drove across the front of the other 2. End of the race I got real scrappy and Ed was gaining on me I somehow stayed ahead by a couple hundredths at the line.

I had a lot of fun this round. I slowly improved a bit in each race.

I managed to qualify 9th in the third race :D after qualifying in the high teens for race 1 and 2. Shows what a bit of time on track will do.

I think  this season will be a lot of fun. i had lots of battle going on all around me and was never bored.

The first two races were very enjoyable for me, in the pack lots of action, even with the race2 accident.  Great racing fun, gents!
Race3 was a bit more boring, even tho the best finishing position of the night for me.

Marty: what's preventing you starting from the end of the grid every time?  All you need is taking a break during quali... ;)
Title: Re: Season 3 round 2: Gentrack Race Chat

That was a tough round for me. In race 1, I was the accidental recipient early on of a two car shunt on the main straight - a car got knocked into me and sent me spinning off track, where I was only able to rejoin near the back.

Race 2 was better, until on the last lap or so I got a tankslapper in the fast lefts. I almost hung onto it with full opposite lock, but touched the kerb and the car whipped back the other way and I hit Cramjet and EdWood.

Race 3 I had another incident, braking at the end of the straight. I was racing Freezer into the corner, with me on the inside. Near the corner, I judged that Freezer had the speed on me, and backed off, with Grubbet already in the corner, so that I wouldn't go spearing wide into Freezer's path, but then found myself in a DaveO/Peter Reid sandwich, as they misjudged my early braking, and I ricocheted off between the two of them. Maybe those two guys could have had a little more anticipation of what was happening in the corner ahead of them, but it was just a racing incident, really.

So with a 19th, 17th and 17th, it wasn't the best night for me results-wise, but there was plenty of action!

I saw that happening Wally! DaveO Was aiming for you. He didn't even lift!  ;D

I got taken out every race but got my revenge by taking out others in the process. So it kinda evens out. :D
I did make my own mistakes too. Especially in race 1, after getting the adrenaline going with a 1 lap joust with Vipergod I got in front but then wrecked in the bus-stop. I then proceeded to wreck it a few more times and had to quit to pits as I was about to get lapped on lap 4!

Race 2 & 3 a lot more exciting races. I really have to settle my nerves and relax my shoulders. I wreck so easy due to excitment & pressure. Like race 3. I was miles ahead of Gratulin. I just felt OMG I'm going to crash on the last lap. And I did. On the last corner and by the time I got my car back in the right direction Gratulin cruses past me. I should have rammed him!  ;D

Grats to Dave. I'm glad he was in a car he hates.

Whoo hoo, that was a fantastic night's racing...
Had my setup tweeked and knew I could pull a 1:41 but only managed a 1:46 in traffic for race one... but as marty said, so much fun going through the field... I pickup 17, yep your reading it correctly, "Flattop" & "17 overtakes", what a hoot, I will need to watch all the replays as I just put my head down, apologised where I needed to and just got stuck in. Gained 2 1:40s, I realise this car would have been faster in other hands, but it gave me a chance to race well.

Race 2 I was able to get a good qual in but got nervy entering into the first turns, I think some where I rubbed, will have to look, but came home 8th :)
Race 3 qual, listening to some of the talk on setups, I ran default, fuel as well for this and pulled a 1:40!. I was in the same time slot with some eminent racers *grin*

A couple of opps moment in lap3 that brought what would have been very consistent laps times apart, dropped 6 places, but great racing, thanks to all!
Looking forward to next week, not sure what car I will have, but the mix make is so interesting... multi-make and multi-model racing, the same as what most of us would experience in real life if we had the chance...

And 12th.  ;D

Post by: Freezer on September 24, 2014, 10:51:42 AM
Well after a reasonable amount of time trying to tweak the setup I jumped back to default at the last moment and was quicker . . !
Qualified mid pack for each race but seemed to be able to avoid most of the carnage and have some good battles to creep forward in all races.
Although race 2 coming out of T2 I pulled out from behind a wide BMW to find a lotus sideways in front of me and I collected it.  I then found myself to fast on the grass to pull it up before T3 and reentered collecting Crimespree (sorry).
The BMW were to quick on the straights but were great fun to hunt down through the bends.  A good nights racing.

Sorry about the hit Wally, didn't see you had a slow car in front of you, and really didn't expect the pace into T1 to be so slow.

Thanks Wally, I felt like an alien cheat in that car, even though it's far from a favourite.

Qual: Tried to get a good start and get a good lap in with all the traffic.. and in all my excitement ran into Guybrush, sorry mate. That was about as eventful as it got for the first and the rest of the qualifiers.

Races: Just tried to get a good start, I knew there were cars behind me that could easily catch up on a bad start, was wary of the grip levels and brought it home in each race even with a few 'moments' where I lost a second or two of my lead. Badluck to Krahl for running oiut of fuel in the race. By race he had the BMW under control and was chasing me down, really felt some pressure then but it all ended well.

Bring on the elise sc lol
Title: Re: Season 3 round 2: Gentrack Race Chat
Post by: marty on September 25, 2014, 12:35:22 AM
Ran a couple more laps with RPM me trying some other cars, the 1M doesnt seem to have much advantage over the Elise SC. Not enough straights for the motor to help and its a little slower in the corners and under braking. Possibly could go quicker in it but I think my PB in the SC is a bit quicker around 1:09.5 v 1:09.6 in the 1M. Maybe the m3 would be more of a boost over an elise.

I did try following the elise in the z4 and its not too bad, Im sure guy will find another second in it and be around the same pace as the sharp end of the field. This track does favour the nimble elise much more as its pretty much all corners and the front straight is fairly short.  Z4 seems easier to drive maybe the lack of grunt and me not pushing it, also paddles vs shifter is quite a bit easier but the gear shifts are quite slow in it.

Thanks marty. I've done a 1:08.8 with the std set up. Initially I was removing some oversteer but if you drive it like a front wheel drive and keep your foot buried it's quite predictable. Nicely throttle steer able in the big right hand sweeper. I'm on holidays so I'll be practising this week with a goal to not let you past it somehow I wind up in front of you!

Also I thought Tuesday was great with the close racing..
In race 1 I had a good battle with phil from maybe half way onwards after i spun on my own then got back to business,
race 2 had a great time chasing gwyar then missed a shift and marty slipped through  after being on my tail for many laps
In race 3 bacculum and i battled from the start, he slipped next to me on turn 2 and we held side be side in turn 3, we came together and spun, from then it was on for the rest of the race.. He uses all the track and I struggled to get past so i did what anyone what do, i rammed him, It was genuinely accidental though and i wasn't happy because i don’t want to be that guy, i redressed the position and went on, i slipped past near the end when he made a small error at the bus stop, thanks for the great racing!

I wonder if anyone else has had this issue, they work fine for me and are the exact same files. Try to restart the game but you have likely already done that and if you add replays without a restart they wont even show in the game normally.

Maybe you got a corrupt download but if it extracts without any issues they should be fine.

Do you have any issues loading replays with 24 cars normally as maybe with post effects and seeing cars externally it could be more load on the system causing it to hang in some cases. You can try reduce some settings and see if that helps but I will try an redownload them and see if there is any issue with the file as it uploaded.

EDIT: I just downloaded the files and tried them without issue so appears nothing is wrong with the upload.

Hi Marty, upon further investigation I cannot get any replays to play. This is the first time I have tried to play a replay ever...
I have post processing effects turned off completely as it was causing major issues with my frame rates. Would this be the cause?

It shouldnt cause it to not play in replays you should be able to change settings without effect. It couod be possible that replays stress the system more then when your viewing the race from the cockpit but even that is unlikely.

Id suggest to do a steam cache check of AC then if that doesnt fix the issue go to the official forum amd post there along with your system logs. One of the devs will be able to take a look and most likely sort things out for you.

Are you running many 3rd party apps? These tend to break things after major game updates so best to always keep them up to date. You can try disable all 3rd party apps and try run a replay to see if one of those is causing your problem.
