Title: Tue March 28 - fun run?
Post by: Wally on March 21, 2017, 10:46:45 PM
I will be away in Melbourne next Tuesday, and there will be a bye in the season races. Would someone like to organise a fun run while I'm away?

I will be in Melbourne too but as I live here its not an issue.  ;D Not sure if I will go to the GP Sunday but may check it out Saturday then just watch the race on TV as you actually see more of whats going on.

Regarding next week I can host anything, people can suggest whatever and anything that more agree with I can put up or if anyone else wants to host then they can go ahead.

May I suggest Thomson Road in the Maserati 250F (both the six and twelve cylinder).

So far its a tie  ;) I will go with whatever is suggested by the most so if anyone wants what someone else suggested quote that or make another choice. If its a tie I will go with whichever was suggested first. If everyone suggests something different then it will be GzeroD's suggestion, people can suggest more then one thing but they cant suggest the same thing more then once. They can but it will still only count the one time.  ;D

BUT ALSO.... preliminary changelog from Lord Kunos:
1.13
- New Porsche 911 RSR 2017 for Porsche Pack 3
- New Mazda MX-5 Miata NA
- New Mazda 787B: mod skins made for the original 787B mod will need to be updated using the new template

- Added OpenVR/Vive support (beta)
- Fixed Mazda MX-5 ND setup ride height false indication
- Fixed Alfa Romeo Giulietta QV gearbox damage
- Adjusted Lotus 72D and Ferrari 312T tyre compound wear and heat ranges
- Fixed Flag rendering for VR
- Fixed colour balance for emissive items (lights+digital) when Post Processing is turned off
- Added downshift protection alert (can be disabled through the launcher options)
- All GT2/GTE cars default to Medium tyres now (also for AI)
- Fixed broken rendering when OCULUS mode is selected but no Oculus is actually connected
- Added Pitstop arrows to DirectInput Dpad: bind to the wheel dPad: can be overidden by controls.ini [ADVANCED]DPAD_INDEX_OVERRIDE=0
- Added Pitstop quickmenu + Setup pitstop strategy: this can be custumized and disabled by system/cfg/pitstop.ini [SETTINGS]USE_MOUSE_PITSTOP=0
- Updated Fanatec library to support new wheel bases.
- Fixed possible CPU warning when player gets retired.
- Multiplayer features:
- Added reversed grid races: the race session will be restarted in reversed grid order based on the standings of the previous race. Players disqualified in the first race will start from the back of the grid in the second race, regardless of their position being within the reversed grid range.
- Added locked entry list in pickup mode: same as in booking mode, only players already included in the entry list can join the server (password not needed).
- Added car Steam ID sharing in entry list: each car in the entry list can feature multiple GUIDs. Players can share that car (one at once). The name inserted in the entry list is used as driver name.
- Fixed server result log not displaying invalid laps.
- Fixed end-of-race session status for lapped players in lap races.
- Added Mandatory Pit: a pit window can be added to the race session. As a design choice, players need to stop at their pit box within the pit window to have a valid pit stop. Players with pit boxes further down the pitlane need to take this into account before deciding on their strategy. Players may make additional pit stops before and after the pit window, but only making a mandatory stop in the indicated pit window will validate their race. Server admins must decide on a pit window that allows all players, regardless of their pit box position, to comfortably make a pit stop under normal racing conditions.
- Updated Shared Memory

The pit config stuff sounds nice. Goodbye PitConfig! Nice race over fix too. The rest of it, we'll see how it works in practice. The pit window stuff looks confusing because it depends on where your pit box is.

I only had a quick look at the updates very late last night, in game now has a pit config option. I didnt see any app that you can adjust on the fly in car like pitconfig. I also didnt try a pit stop but its nice to see pressure changes for stops. Really may still need pit config app where you can change these while on track and make changes on the stop, you dont want to be fiddling with buttons pre stop simply wasting time but maybe there is an app I missed at 2am lol. Was running some races at Bathurst and had no idea it got so late then logged out and saw the update droped so had to fire it up.

With the fun run whatever the combo which Gzero is still winning, no suggestions of any of the new cars  ??? but I wont be making any combo suggestions leave that to others. I think format wise however its a good time to test forced pit stops and reverse grid so these I will put up no matter what the final choice is. I will leave combo choices up and close it off Sunday night so keep those suggestions rolling in if there is anything youd like to race.

You can bring the presets up any time on track by pressing the dpad or arrow keys.

Barbagallo    I've done lots of laps with the old Mod Mazda there and it suits the car well. The Mazda needs a smooth track surface, really disliked bumpy tracks.  Plus a lap is only like 40 seconds  ;D

Ah nice. I didn't see it like that, I just saw the extra menu when in the pits where I don't think it had it. Wonder if you can bind wheel buttons to the options.

With the pit app I just tried it, I thought it was controlled by the wheel dpad but it was rendered on the far edge of the right screen and I didnt even notice it. I had to use the ini file to move it to somewhere I can see it.

Quite easy to control it in car using the dpads much better then pitconfig trying to get the mouse the make changes, the pressures you will want to set in pit as they start at the default rate and so incar you have no idea what this relates to compared to what your currently using. Would prefer an option to have +- psi rather then full numbers and this would be up or down from current pressures not default values.

You just move dpad up or down to get other options then left or right to make selections and this works quite well in car, you also have the 3 presets you can set in pit so can just choose one of these rather then have to make adjustments on the fly.

As the suggestions kept flooding in all the way to the deadline the first choice is the winner.  :o

Tuesday will be Thomson road in the Maserati f1 cars, I will put up a server with the combo if anyone wants a run. I think 2 x20 min races with a forced pit stop to test out the pit window option. Pit window will be pretty open from 2nd to 17th minutes, reverse grids dont really need to be tested I have seen how they work and with 2 races people can switch between the 6 and 12 cylinder cars if they want with a 10 min qualy before each race.

Forced pit stops would be good for practice. Not a big fan of the new pit app but it maybe a bit of practice would convince me otherwise.
Title: Re: Tue March 28 - fun run?
Post by: Wally on March 27, 2017, 08:24:40 AM
There is a big gotcha with the pit window. Because the pit lap is counted from when you reach your pit box, it depends on whether your box is before or after the start line. Some people will be able to pit (as in enter the pits) on lap 4, for example, and some will only be able to pit on lap 5, if their box is before the start line.

Similarly, at the end of the pit window when it says there are 0 laps left at the top of the screen, if your pit box is before the start line, you can still pit, but if your box is after the start line, you're disqualified.

It's a bit broken at the moment. They should have counted your pit lap as the lap on which you entered pit lane.

So it might be a good opportunity to test some of these quirks.

I thought Marty wanted to use a timed pit window. Doesn't this solve the lap-start/finish issue?

Yes, I think going by time will work better. It will still be the time that you hit your pit box, but that should be OK.

Time does eliminate that lap issue and crossing the line, I dont know what happens if you miss the pit window. I guess it just DQ's you the next time you cross the line so in a timed race you will need to not push the pit window too tight.
Title: Re: Tue March 28 - fun run?
Post by: Wally on March 27, 2017, 01:54:35 PM
Yeah, it's an immediate DQ back to pits when you cross the line. Not entirely sure exactly when that happens in a timed race, but that's what it does.
Title: Re: Tue March 28 - fun run?
Post by: marty on March 27, 2017, 02:00:03 PM
In a timed race then it will just be after the pit window closes and you haven't made the stop yet but crossed the line for another lap. Could set up a race server at Nords with a 15 minute race and pit window 2 to 6 minutes and see everyone get DQ's  ;D

Bad luck hope, hope your back up and running again soon.

With tonight would people rather run 2 races with race one just the 6 cylinder cars and race 2 just the 12 cylinders or keep them both with 12 of each and have a bit of a mixed grid race. I am thinking of keeping them separate so everyone can try both but if the majority would rather run them together that can be done instead.

One other thing if any here would like to test, setup sharing has been broken with ptracker since 1.13 AC build but NEYS has made an experimental ptracker build 3.3.6 that should work again.

Quote
It seems that AC 1.13 broke setup sharing again (the new .sp files for pit strategy confused ptracker). I have created version 3.3.6 of ptracker which should fix this. It is currently available at http://n-e-y-s.de in the experimental download area, and it would be cool if some of you could test it before I release officialy in the next few days.

Thanks
Neys

If anyone wants to test the current build tonight then download 3.3.6 experimental from here and we can run a test tonight.

Personally, I had no time to test the combo at all and have not driven any of the cars in maybe 2 months. So I would not mind picking one (most likely to 6 cylinders) and stick with it for the whole night. You never know: by the end of it, I might actually have an idea of what I am doing ;)
Title: Re: Tue March 28 - fun run?
Post by: marty on March 28, 2017, 06:09:14 PM
I just did my first lap in the 6 cylinder dont ever remember driving the 12 cylinder keeping both in may be better for some, track I have never seen before either. I dont know how different the 12 is to the 6 the 6 is fairly tame and the track wont take too long to learn. Only a couple of tricky hairpins the rest is pretty straight forward unless your trying to set your ultimate PB on your first ever lap I think it should be fairly manageable.  ;)

EDIT: not sure if its something up with my PC or this track, I have had a random ctd each time I have tried to run some laps on the combo in the server.

Server is up, my ctd seemed to be fixed with a reboot.

Track download from here http://www.racedepartment.com/downloads/thomson-road-grand-prix.13694/

Server has the regular xgn password for entry so make sure password server is enabled in server filters.

Good fun guys thanks for that was a bit of fun, combo could have done with a bit more practice as its pretty tricky with limited laps.

Here are the race results.

Qualy 1

Race 1 (take 3 ;D )

Qualy 2
http://52.65.162.16:50041/sessiondetails?sessionid=12808#

Race 2
http://52.65.162.16:50041/sessiondetails?sessionid=12809#

Pit window wasn't an issue but seeing as there is no minimal work to be done you could just add 1l of fuel and be done. Forced stops really need some options such as must change tyres/compounds minimal fuel to add or no fuel allowed.

Also all guys should take a look at the new pit app and get used to it for the next main season race with stops. The ROOZ bathurst race last night a couple guys messed up and had to pull out after the first stop and some guys tonight werent sure how the new pit methods work.

Cool video Kcender, I didnt think that road would still be around with the amount of development in Singapore over the last 20 years. I have been there a few times and seeing its such a small country fairly likely to have driven on the road as the name did sound familiar.

Marty, the straight  is part a major road (Thomson Rd) in Singapore, so most likely you have been on at least parts of it. But the other stuff is a deviation in a park called Old Thomson Rd. and I doubt one could easily get there by mistake.

Not all trees were solid, even some of those steel posts exiting t1. You go through 1 or 2 thinking phew that was lucky then you hit a solid one or the wire fence and the car gets destroyed, flipped or both. I think they were great cars and the track was good for them, it would just be easier if you did enough laps to know which corner is which.  ;D

would have loved to stay to race but my Rift was acting up so I swapped to my monitor and I just couldn't adjust. When you go VR, you just can't go back.

However, I think I have solved why my rift plays up, which is actually caused by my RAM frequency oddly enough. Nothing is wrong with my RAM, but it seems to work flawlessly when I underclock my RAM from 3000mhz down to 2133mhz.
