Title: S23 Car Poll - CARS CHANGED!
Post by: Wally on June 27, 2018, 09:01:59 PM
Two vintage choices this time round. As usual, you can vote for as many choices as you'd like.

Porsche 911 Carrera RSR 3.0 (1974)
A beautiful, raw race car. We raced this on a Thursday night fun run, and it gave excellent close racing.

The race format would be 3 x sprints.
Race 2 in reverse groups of 4 from race 1 finish, e.g. 4,3,2,1... 8,7,6,5... 12,11,10,9... etc.
Race 3 in Race 2 finish order.

Damage restrictor applied for only car to car contacts (not environment), but not carrying over into subsequent races.

Lotus 3-Eleven
Same season format as the Porsche above.

80's Group C - United States IMSA GT Championship
Cars:
    Porsche 962 C Short Tail
Porsche 962 C Long Tail (but with 100% restrictor for parity as the long tail is lighter and more powerful)
    Mercedes-Benz C9 1989 LM
Tracks (from the mid-80s IMSA GT calendar)
    Daytona 24 hrs (Road course)
    Road Atlanta
    Riverside
    Laguna Seca
    Watkins Glen
    Sebring
    Road America
    Sonoma Raceway (Infineon/Sears Point)

This is an endurance championship, so I'd like to go 1 hr races again with pit stops, but if people are sick of long races, can go to 2 x 30 min sprints.

I'm tempted by the sprint races so voted for the 911  8)

No. >:(
The engine is in the wrong place and it's not overpowered enough. ;)

I prefer close racing, the faster cars make the pack more spread out, so I'll vote 911

Not to mention you had heaps of pace in the Porsche!

Well you'll love the Merc C9 then. That thing has a crazy power to weight ratio.

I think that was something about that track, it was the only one I was closing the gap a little on the faster guys when driving the F1.75s

Oh no. I have been lobbying for the Porsche short/long tail for a long time and now I am going to miss most or all of the season, as I will be away from mid-July to early October.... :(

That's it, we have to race the 911 till Grat gets back.

Always wanted to race the Merc, but it could definately kill you.  The short tail on the other hand is less powerful but great to drive.  Long tail.... in between.
As for the 911, easier to drive and possibly closer racing.  That said, the strength/weakness thing in the Group C's could be interesting!

I'm pretty sure everyone knows my thoughts about 911's (and their CoG issues). ::) >:(
But I'll reverse my vote because if I had to miss the '75 season, I would've been gutted. :'(

I hope others will wait for you grat. ;)
(and make it soon, as I'm keen to drive them as well)

You guys are so nice. I am seriously moved.

Whatever you choose, the important is that you have fun. I am sure there will be many more seasons I'll enjoy even if I don't get to race in the one I was hoping for.

Based on Grat's absence, I might change the Group C option to a single make Lotus 3-Eleven option (which nearly won a recent poll), so Grat doesn't miss out. We'll do the Group C cars when Grat's back. What do you reckon?

I'll take any option that locks in a Group C season. ;D
I think I'm as keen as Grat now. 8)

I've changed the cars in the poll to save the Group C cars for when Signor Grat can drive them. I've replaced them with the Lotus 3-Eleven which was a close runner up in a recent season poll.
The season format would be the same as the Porsche - 3 sprints etc.

Please recast your votes as you want!

As for the delayed Group C season please take a look here (http://xgn.com.au/index.php?topic=1861.msg45144#msg45144).
Thanks Seanus, but for simplicity's sake and to avoid choice overload, I'd stick to original AC cars.

I was afraid you'd say that. Can't say I'm not bitterly disappointed though.

For all other members don't let Wally's reticence disuade you from having a look at, and if possible a little testing and feedback of, my compilation. If nothing else it should make a decent offline mod for the few of us that swing that way.
I'm getting a "page not found" error on the link.

It's because that custom mod link is in a sub-forum which is not publicly available.

Could you please check why rob (sic) doesn't have access to that thread. :'(
I added a bunch of Thursday night lads to that group. They should be able to access the thread now.
