General Discussion / Re: Budget TV Advice
« on: July 22, 2015, 12:09:39 PM »
I would recommend the Soniq over any other cheaper brand. They are made in Melbourne and are an Australian company. JB is the only place that is permitted to sell them so haggling a cheaper price is harder but not impossible.

The picture quality is as good as any of the other cheaper brands but the thing I like most about them, they will play any file type. They have a USB port, just plug an external hardrive in it and it will play 'All' file types.

Sometimes when playing files and depending on what codec is used, the TV will sometimes not recognize the proper resolution, but this is easily fixed with a few clicks on the Remote Control. Nothing hard.

For the price the Soniq's are very good value in my opinion. ;)

From what I have noticed most seem to record as AVI or MP4, still shots are JPEGS.

Hadn't noticed this thread before today.
I was with Adam Internet for 16 years, they were originally a South Australian ISP which later branched out to parts of NSW and QLD (I think) but mostly just South Australian. I was with them for so long because they were good and reliable. Then iinet bought Adam! They buggered the plans and raised the prices. So I switched to Telstra in December 2014.
For the first few months with Telstra I had no issues but once Netflix got going we now notice around 6-7pm our connection is crap, comes good for about an hour then at around 8-8:30pm it goes crap again. It doesn't happen all the time but we do notice its always around the same time of day.
It was really bad just after Netflix started, but over time it does seem to be getting better and doesn't happen as often but it does still occasionally happen. I cant say for sure its Netflix but just seem too much of a coincidence.

Even if I did buy an expensive one it would be cheap compared to the money it could save someone if there is a dispute over an accident.
Most peoples excess on their insurance would be at least $300 -$500 (depending on age etc), so the Dash Cams are certainly viable at around $250
Thanks for your input tho Bird, the only things that worries me with your response is 'Hell, I dunno anything about them'. :D

But your other comments sound logical. ;)

Hello all,

I am contemplating buying a Dash Cam and am hoping some of the car enthusiasts here at XGN might have some suggestions as to which are the better ones as there are so many to choose from.

Front and Rear camera would be preferred. Ive seen them range in price from around $40 - $80 for the cheaper ones and up to $250+ for the more expensive ones.

Any suggestions would be very much appreciated. :)

ok, you're clear; please put that link back if you like.
Sorry for being trigger happy; as I wrote we had too many advertisers in the past.  I'd rather be wrong than let things get out of hand quickly.

Yep agreed Bird, cant be too careful when it comes to spammers but unfortunately I too can vouch for 'rulie', he has been around for yonks. ;)

P.S: Rulie ...... I'm only kidding about the 'unfortunately' :D Good to see you found your way back here ... I think. :p

News / Re: Is Illegally Downloading A Movie Really Theft?
« on: August 08, 2014, 11:32:05 AM »
Read the article and read a lot of the comments .... I really like the  'Coat Hanger' analogy:

Maybe companies that make coat hangers should hire private detectives to make sure people don't use them to break into cars.

No, shops like ikea who distribute coat handers need to pay for detectives to make sure people don't use them to break into cars!

No, they need the government to legislate that the coat hangers can only ever be used to hang coats, and its up to the Banks, which let us spend our money to buy coat hangers, to police it

August 6, 2014 2:31 pm

Wrong again, the government need to create a legislation that coat hangers can only be used for coats, and then install data trackers in coat hanger and have coat hanger companies keep hold of our metadata for 2 years to ensure that they weren't used to break into cars. Then it is upto us to pirate coat hangers to steal cars.

August 6, 2014 2:46 pm

you forgot to mention that they would also need to fine anyone that bends a piece of wire into a coat hanger shape
 August 6, 2014 3:54 pm

Oh of course! Sorry and hand out minor infrigements to anyone who hangs anything but a coat on a coat hanger. T-Shirt? Australia says no!

August 7, 2014 11:45 am

I don't use coat hangers

But all of that is a lot of work; it is easier for them to go after the producers of the metal and plastic used to make coat hangers, for providing the coat hanger companies with coat hanger materials.

August 6, 2014 5:30 pm

But what if you want to borrow someone elses coat hanger, or buy a box of used ones for your old coats? These unauthorised uses of coathangers must also be stopped.

Not only can you use that coat hanger to break into someones car, but you can then recycle it and use it as an aerial. You can't do that with a downloaded movie, can you?

hmmm I guess you have to be some form of 'staff' to see the pic? It is not showing, its just the little X and when I copy the properties link of the pic and paste it into a browser I get the message "You are not allowed to access this section".

So yeh you're right Glen, this is an outrage.  :P
