What do you drive in real life?
« on: April 15, 2015, 01:34:27 PM »
Being car nuts I assume most people have had a 'fun' car in their time?

When I was 22 I had a Mitsubishi FTO GR which was fun. The only car I've modded, mostly interior, but added stainless exhaust and air filter with Evo VI wheels.

When I was 24 I tossed up between an Evo or an S2000. Went with the S2000 which was fun, but kind of wish now I got the Evo.

Now with kids etc I have a Mondeo; nice to drive but doesn't really have the fun factor.

When I was a young bloke I drove an old Trabant 601 for a while, then an even older (as in 15yo+, can't remember) Lada1200, then as I got a bit of money a newer Trabant1.1, which was rather dangerous, a 600kg car made of nearly cardboard on bike wheels with a relatively strong engine.  Oh, also been riding an MZ125cc bike for a few years.
So, really, FU you lucky SOB is all I can add to this part of the thread :D

Currently a Mitsu 380 for mine, and a Nissan Murano for the family.

My work supplies me my car and all expenses, so while a Toyota Camry isn't the most glamorous car I'm happy with the value!

Previously I owned an AUII Fairmont, an old XF Ford, and an even older Datsun 180B SSS with modded carbies and drive-train.  The old Datsun had a lot of character - I used to rock up to Uni, open the door and smoke would come billowing out as for a while there it had an oil leak onto the exhaust somewhere and it came in through the vents!

Oh, and my little '87 Celica.  That was a bit of fun, but managed to write that off.  If only I had the practice of AC back then!

not a full blown rev head at all. I like cars but have never been obsessed. for the 1st 10-15 years i had nothing but holden v8's. Can't name them all. No didn't write them off but sure didn't look after them either. mainly HQ's. Love em. 1st car was HQ shagging wagon. Had that for years. Then went onto old premiers.
Then i grew up and started driving anything.
then i thought I'll go German. Got a vw polo, great little car. But too small for me.

Now I've just clocked over 1500 kms on my black bmw 116i sportline. It's got a smaller cc engine than my motorbike!
My Yamaha XV1900 is still my most favorite thing of all.

I don't even know of some of these early cars you guys had. Maybe being from the UK, or maybe you're all a lot older than me  ;D

My first car was a Renault 5, followed a MKIII Ford Escort, then a Renault Laguna, then the FTO.

First car was a HD Holden (cost $600). 3-speed column shift, no synchro in 1st, had to hold the gear lever to keep it in top :)) Then graduated to a Renault 16TS ($750). I was a big spender in those days...

3 on the tree those where the days. A good foot of throw in the lever.
I trust it was a bench seat?

I'm going to request Logitech get with it and make us a tree shifter

Never had a "fun" car myself... just an assortment of Mitsubishis, Toyotas and Mazdas. First car was a Mitsubishi Sigma. Woo hoo!

err my first stuff was RD 350LC Yamahas think u know them as RZ in aus..at 18 a blueprinted ex race GSXR750G a gpz1100 to many bikes to list...then when I broke my leg to badly to ride a bike to work I had no car licence so a super tuned 850 reliant robin with 1275gt mini bits in it..it  spent more time on its roof than on its wheels...my mates and I got the hang of hanging out the passenger window on roundabouts and getting her on 2 wheel drifts...was mustard yellow with a black racing stripe...mmmmm :)

first decent car was a crx Honda..still the best lift off oversteer FWD car ever imo..then a wrx Scooby station wagon followed by a sedan one with 350hp, then  a fisher fury kit car with a R1 turbo superbike in her 500hp per ton...after to many near death experiences went racing again and had transit vans and sprinters for years...last decent car I owned was a E39 BMW 540 Msport which was stunning altho terrifying in the wet and would kill any holden ford crap :p  now drive a delica space wagon 4x4 ...which u need where I live...id love a 1 series m bmw if I win lotto.
