Qualifying starts at 8:30pm Eastern Daylight Savings time, and there is usually a long practice session before that, starting from about 6:00pm.
Format
One 15 minute qualifying session. Race 1 grid is set by qualifying position; race 2 grid is set by everyone's second best qualifying time.
Two races of approximately 30 minutes.
Each race has 1 compulsory pit stop where tyres must be changed. There is no restriction on tyre compounds. There is no refuelling allowed. There is no pit window (other than you can't pit on the final lap).
Fuel rate: 1x
Tyre wear rate: 1.6x
Points
32 down to 1.
1 bonus point for pole position.
1 bonus point for fastest race lap.
Handicapping
Handicapping is achieved by adding a mandatory pit stop delay as follows:
- Each driver carries over their accumulated pit stop delay from race to race.
- After each race, the race winner gets 9 seconds added to their pit stop delay. Second place gets 6 seconds added; third place gets 3 seconds added.
- 4th gets 3 seconds removed, 5th gets 6 seconds removed, 6th and lower gets 9 seconds removed, until you have 0 seconds.
Penalties
Opening lap major infringements (e.g. avoidable rear hits, unsafe track re-entry causing accidents etc), will be awarded 100 kg of penalty ballast for the next race only.

I've updated the first post with the season schedule and rules, based as much as possible on the real world Supercar Challenge series where the Praga R1 races.
An interesting feature of that series is the qualifying: there is one qualifying session, and the race 1 grid is set by qualifying position; the race 2 grid is set by everyone's second best qualifying time.
Note also the compulsory pit stop rules in the first post.

Wally are you going to set up the Prada server as its still on the fun cars at hockenheim.
The Praga it is.
Anyone calling it the Prada will be docked 5 championship points :)

I think Im already in the negative point range for calling the season car the Prada, oops there go some more points. ;D

Yeah, I will do in a bit.

This strange qualifying thing they do with the second race being in order of drivers' 2nd best qualifying times is quite interesting. I've coded it up and tested on some of our recent races, and it jumbles up the grid quite a bit for race 2. The pressure will be on to bank at least 2 good laps in qually.
It looks at your second best legal qual lap - i.e. lap without a cut in it - just to add a little more pressure. You won't want to be throwing qual laps away with cuts.
-
Definitely sounds like they're trying fresh different ideas with the series!
-
bugger it i will have a casual go if i may Wally
Still having lag issues on a full server though

When you say lag issues is this simply your framerate dropping or you noticing other cars lagging. I dont ever recall your connection having issues recently and your car has looked fine whenever Ive been around you.
If your having frame rate issues maybe play around with some display settings, one thing that can cause big frame drops is v-sync if your pc cant render above the refresh rate so it may cause extra stutters or drop frame rate in half if it falls below the displays refresh. Maybe experiment with fps caps just above your refresh rate instead of v-sync as this has less issues when the system drops a few frames in heavy traffic. It may cause some screen tearing but its either some tearing or bad fps drops.
What cpu and gpu are you using? Also what resolution and refresh rate are you playing at?
If you run a big field of AI does it also have the same issues or is it only in mp with a larger field?
-
Like Marty said, vsync can cause big issues recently in AC (behaviour changed in 1.9). I experienced big, erratic FPS drops with vsync on in the Nvidia control panel as it jumped abruptly from 60 FPS to 30 FPS. Now, I have fullscreen unticked and vsync on in AC, and no vsync in the Nvidia control panel. You could try that combination, with a big field of AI.
-
I also experienced a big FPS dropped with a recent AC update with the in game V-Sync; if you dropped below 60 it would straight away lock it at 30 making the game feel terrible. I turned off the in game V-Sync and am currently using the 'Fast' option in the nvidia control panel, which I think is quite new as I hadn't noticed it before. It just drops any additional frames your monitor can't render, so you don't get tearing and minimal input lag (apparently). I've been running it for a while and seems good.
It's definitely not a server issue though, unless it's the lag you see when somebody joins the server as that still seems to happen due to minorating.

Are you seeing this in the practice server or the other pub servers? The prac server runs the old MR auth and local cache and I havent seen any join lags, this is the same for the tuesday and thursday servers.
The other XGN Marty's servers are running the new auth amd I did see some random warps last night. Some on join some when people werent even joining but I will revert these back to the old cache method to to see if thats what caused the random warps as a test.

Have it on the Tuesday practice server any time someone joins
-
Have it on the Tuesday practice server any time someone joins
This normally only happens if the local MR auth cache is off, it shouldnt happen when its running but then extra plugins being run to test the pits may be conflicting with the MR auth cache and also there have been some issues with the MR server database recently which also may have caused the issues. In all the laps practicing in the server with the f138 a couple weeks ago I never saw a single join lag, my first mp session this week though I noticed random warps but dont know what is exactly causing these as they were not only when someone was joining.
-
The pit server should be using its own ports, (the same that AC4 used), but there is a possibility it's tripping over the auth cache somehow. I don't know how ports are configured for the auth cache. But I'll turn the pit server off soon in any case.

Still seems unlikely as the pit server was running already with the f138 when that was up on the prac server, the times Ive checked the server MR auth was working and the auth lines on all servers seem fine as I just checked. Possibly the pit server may have an auth line in it with no MR that could cause issues but I couldnt find where the server cfg is for the test server so didnt check.
-
The auth line is blank for the pit server.

What i find on our server when full is a massive stutter and slow down or jerkiness mainly in corners, its like it cannot redraw the new view (is that the right word ''redraw'' ?)
when there is 3 or 4 on server no issues at all and yes offline big field unplayable

MMMhhhh,... I noticed the drop to 30 as well, but did not notice this "fast sync" thing. I'll try it when I get back home. Thank you.

The 550 could be starting to show its age, I reckon.

AC has a reputation for changing settings by itself (at least I've had it happen to me a few times and have heard of a few people having similar experiences). I'd go and turn the reflection and smoke generation settings down (if they're up) and see how you go there. Those are two of the biggest FPS drains in the game.

Try turning off Post Processing and reduce reflections.

I do have an ASUS OC edition GTX980 for sale with box if you're interested. It's in as new condition and one awesome card. I averaged 70-80 fps with everything up full in Assetto.

Id say the definate buy would depend on Price unless your all getting a cut from the sale lol. 980 would be a good card but if the price is close to say a 1070 then its not exactly a great deal. :-\

1070s are worth 650-700+ I'm only asking $300. It's the Asus GTX980 Strix Direct CU II OC edition 4gb GDDR5
(http://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/QEkAAOSwLF1X4FkR/s-l500.jpg)
-
In comparison, I paid $600 for my new 980 several months ago.
-
It seems a pretty good deal, I doubt there is any new card in that price range that would come close to the 980. I really didnt study any performance comparisons between it and lower end new gpu's but would guess its going to outperform a 1060 by a bit.
A quick search and this site looks good for comparing gpu's. This is the 980 vs 1060 with the 980 a little ahead but not by as much as I thought it would be.
http://gpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Nvidia-GTX-980-vs-Nvidia-GTX-1060-6GB/2576vs3639
-
Yeah the 1060 is pretty good bang for the buck. I got one a couple of months ago when my old 7870 bought the farm.
-
So... seems like I might be sitting out for a little while. The whole controller not being detected the other night, well I think I have some USB issues, seems to be fixed by picking a different port. However, the smell that I was getting at the same time has occurred again today.
I thought it was a motor or something internally that was about to blow up but during tonight's iracing league race, in qualifying it finally took a whole new level and majority of the feedback now comes through the wheel as a slipping belt feeling. I might just put in a support ticket with Fanatec and see what they say. The unit is only about 6 months old (I think I bought it in July last year) They better replace it because it's not really usable in it's current state.
Anyways, better put me in the reserves list if the race server gets filled in the near future.
-
That's bad luck Shayne. There's nothing more annoying than equipment letting you down. I hope you can get it all sorted out soon enough.
