I'll start with a Tech Tip:
Dusty CPU fan = 99 degree temps and 30-40 fps.
Clean CPU fan + new thermal paste = 50 degree temps and solid 90 fps.

As for the race, like Wally said I found the GX pretty taily compared to practice so it was more difficult to brake & push it in the bends than previously.
Qualified mid pack in R1 and kept it clean.  Wally snuck by a few laps in and I pushed to catch him but could only hold the gap.
R2 qualify was pretty average and I started down the back.  Worked my way from 18th to 11th but a little spin saw me drop back.  After the stop I had Skaife chasing me for the coveted 14th position but in the dying laps he gave me a little tap and we spun.  Didn't end up dropping a spot and dragged it home.

Fingers crossed I make the race tonight.  PC is struggling, but testing last night showed 99degree temps on the CPU running 16 cars.  I keep getting CPU warnings and my race night on server has been prone to lag despite very low ping.   So I plan to re seat the CPU with some new thermal paste and check the fan when I get home which hopefully brings it down.  Otherwise, once it gets to hot it starts to crap itself.

Interesting - I wonder if that's been the source of your sometimes warps despite your very low ping?
Hopefully it is. . . and this will fix it!  Its been getting gradually worse, which is frustrating having a good card, new screens, plenty of ram etc etc I have still had to be running low graphic settings to try and compensate.

Australian Assetto Corsa League, Tuesday nights / Re: The Ballast Thread
« on: August 02, 2015, 05:46:43 PM »
What that example doesn't show is how it pans out after a few races... this would be the first race where everyone starts on zero. It's a bit of a bad example because you don't see anybody's ballast going down. What happens is most people end up with some ballast, and only the slowest guys are on 0kg. By using the average lap time, this makes some people's ballast go up and some go down.
This is good news . . it did work well in the Nkpro days and should mix up the results a bit.  Looking forward to it.

Hardware & Reviews / Windows 10 Gaming
« on: July 31, 2015, 12:40:45 PM »
Windows 10 free upgrade is now out and I just finished reading a review in the August APC magazine which in reference to gaming talks of its DX12 support.  It talks of a few 'significant' improvements.
First is a much lower-level of code access to GPU silicon for higher performance gaming.
Early Intel testing suggests reduced CPU power consumption by greater than 50% on a SurfacePro3 but the most impressive addition is the ability to combine discrete and integrated GPU's into live gaming.  "Multiadapter" brings your CPU's integrated graphics engine back into service alongside your GeForce or Radeon card.  Your card will handle the main frame rendering with the integrated adding post processing effects.
Results so far indicate a 10% boost in game frame rates from your existing hardware. (as long as you have a Geforce 600 series/Radeon HD7000 series or newer card).
Any one taken the leap yet to upgrade?

Thought I would share this little insight for those running older G25s.
Mine has had potentiometer problems repeatedly as it is a good 7 years old and well used.  So today I picked up a G27 for $160 and according to the reviews there is little technical difference. However.....
I just ran a few tracks and set pb's on many of them, mainly due to the accelerator potentiometer that had had a small stutter no doubt but, the difference in wheel feel is vast.  I now have a very noticeable feel of what the tyres are doing and can respond much better to it.  The wheel is smooth and solid where as the old one clattered.  I can only assume that wear and tear has reduced the ability of the old wheel gradually over time.
The new one has given AC a new lease to my driving so if you are running a very old one, an upgrade may be just the thing.

Also, you might already know ( I didn't) that you can adjust your physical wheel rotation settings on the fly using a combination of the buttons on the gear selector -

Cheers

Anyone on a large triple screen setup will have the top left corner a fair way out of their vision so having it movable would be a good first step for those that at least want to be able to see them.
Thats exactly what I did at Donnington.  With my new triple screen setup I didn't even notice it!   Have now installed the Blue Flag app and placed it front and centre...!

Sorry I couldn't make it last night my trusty but very old G25 pedals have finally given up.  Accelerator spiking a lot and struggling to get full power.  I've swapped potentiometers around previously but there is nothing left to swap/clean.  Luckily I have found a near new G27 on Gumtree for $160 which I pick up on Saturday so will be back up for next week . . . and hopefully a little quicker!!

Which apps do you normally run freezer,

The next few tuesdays are fun runs so it would be a good time for those that tend to get warps to try a few things. We will also get v1.2 in that time with some server and mo changes so things could change a bit.

Also do you ever get the cpu warning in a large field mo race? That always had issues with time sync for people that got it and it would cause constant warps so thats 1 thing you should try and avoid if possible.
I had folders for Ferito Live Traker, Helicorsa, Mini Gear, OV1 Info, Ptracker, RSRLiveTime, StatsBarPlus, Tyretemp however they weren't all activated in the menu.
Never get the CPU warning in online races just with AI on my PC.
Well have to swap the apps back in one at a time to test, but first impressions is that it was an improvement.

I removed all apps last night and jumped on Marty's server and then ran a race on my own PC with 16 AI.  I also ran with graphics pretty much maxed out (normally have to run the opposite).  Result, Marty's server was pretty smooth, didnt see any obvious lag (60fps on triples).  AI race I was getting the 99% CPU warning and not quite as many fps.
So bearing in mind I had the graphics cranked up there was definately an improvement in that small test. . . more to be done though!
