Have to agree. Pictures of drivers like Vettel (who was in 2nd at the time) walking away from Q3 while still more than 4 minutes to go is not a good look.

And, drivers were being eliminated sitting in the pits. What a joke.
I liked the comment Brundle made after it, "Lewis could've waved his own chequered flag". ::)

I went to a session later in the evening with Martin Brundle and David Coulthard.  They were scathing of the new qual format.   They think we may have witnessed a once off...  I'm sure they'll persist with it for another race or two though.

The biggest problem at the track was that we didn't have any graphics on screen telling us who was in the drop zone, how much time was left, or the order, etc. You could imagine how confused everyone was trying to make sense out of what the confused commentators were saying!

Are you at the track Guy?
You should find the CAMS F4 stand, they have a simulator hotlap comp on. ;)

Yep, at the track.  I didn't see the F4 stand though, where is that?  I had a go on the IVECO sim which was running codemasters F1 game.   Haven't driven it before and only got 3 laps vs others who obviously have played it on their xboxs etc. But managed to go 6th quickest of all drivers at the time.  The biggest problem was the car being setup for massive understeer... Yuck!

Geez, even when things go horribly wrong for Hamilton, he finishes second, let's hope he doesn't have much luck or it's a forgone conclusion... :-[ Gotta say though, great race by Ricciardo.

Thanks for sharing. Looks like you were on the hot stand today---though a bit of a scary one. (still envious)

As always, it's amazing that he could just walk away from a crash like that.

Agreed, and real testament to the safety of those cars. Bet he's aching today though!

Im pretty sure if there was a halo device he wouldnt have got out of that on his own. But its kind of amazing with so much damage and the car doing a couple rolls and possibly flying into the fence he had nothing contact his head woth the current open cockpit.

I still think the halo as proposed looks crap and wont do much.

The one proposed by red bull after seeing ferrari test a mockup seems more logical and safer.

But either device would be very tricky for a driver to get out from a car that ends up like Fernando's in Melbourne.

RBR's looks better, that's for sure, and I'm sure, even if the perspex was to shatter, it would take some of the energy out of the object and prevent any fatal injury to the driver.  Plus you could actually get out of the car.

Ferrari's looks like it obstructs the driver's visibility too.

The Ferrari one would've done nothing at all for Massa, the RBR one would have.
