Title: S19R3: Le Mans Race Chat
Post by: Wally on October 24, 2017, 10:56:49 PM
Round 3 takes us to Circuit de la Sarthe (Le Mans) [DOWNLOAD (http://www.racedepartment.com/downloads/circuit-de-la-sarthe-24-hours-of-lemans.2482/)].
We will be running the chicane verson.

Weather is 24 and clear, slight wind.

This will be Rob's 200th Tuesday league race.

Rolling Start Procedure
Rather than do a whole lap because of the length, we'll do an abbreviated rolling start. We'll do the normal single file rolling start through to the Esses, then form into double file at the first red banner. When we go around Tertre Rouge and see the big road signs, that's our Go line for the leaders.

Double File

Awesome Rob :)

Is it just me or does this track seem a little small when it comes to width? doesn't seem to have a lot of room down the straights unless it's my FOV %.  Some of the corners kinda creep up on you and there's no brake distance markers on them, the dark ripple strips make them hard to see in the shadows.  Going to be interesting.

Hahaha, thanks for the reminder Wally. I didn't realise that I had been beaten that many times!

p.s. Wally, thanks for all the hard work you have done organising those 200 races mate, much appreciated.

It would be, except I never settled on a mapping until half way through the race. :o

I put up a special abbreviated rolling start procedure in the first post, due to the length of the track.

Hi Wally,
I'll have to send my apologies for this race.
I'm currently on leave and thought I would be free for the rest of the racing. But the wife wants to go away for a few days.
As they say happy wife, happy sim life.

No worries Hotdog. Keep your wife happy!

It won't be a true simulation, this race.
IRL, ACO changes the use and regen. allowance for Le Mans but we're going to have to deal with the standard settings.

I guess they allow for more use and regen, do they?

Yes.
They allow extra regen. but with the distinct lack of corners it's difficult to achieve.
Deployment, on the other hand, is easy to still use up given the straights. ;)

Did my first few laps at this track last night... wonder how many cut track penalties will be applied  ;D I didn't finish a single lap without a cut due to the track limits on the straights.

The straight is deceptive. What looks like asphalt outside of the white lines is really footpath or something.
There's plenty of opportunity to get warnings before the race ;)

Yes I found that out after a couple of laps, but then I must have kept cutting it a little on the entry to the straight. Will try and get at least one valid lap later before race night.

Perfectly valid to drive there in the real race though. :o
I think my new sig' sums it up.

No limits = no track :)
We're racing in the AC universe, and there it is what it is.

C'mon, how hard is it to drive between the lines??  :o :o

The learning process made it hard for me to get a clean lap for some reason. The track limits seem strict .  Never learnt this track before, although it did seem familiar, but not sure if that's from watching or I have driven it at some stage.
The time of day the server was on tonight seemed better for me also, anyway if in gt3 and not done many laps here be prepared for lots of 10 second penalties  :P

I was getting warning with 2 wheels outside the white lines which is still perfectly valid in the real world. Will just have to take more care in the race

The app only warns when 3 wheels are off the valid track surface. It may be that this mod has some sections where the the white lines are not quite aligned to the valid track.
Anyway, thanks for the warnings.
